Some dude over at RT has a great thread going. Pics, reviews and all. I just found it so I'm going to be spending the next few moments checking for any I might have seen, or really want to.

Well, they're covering way more than the "Video Nasties", it's kind of like a short version of our own "Readers Review" section.

Yeah, I noticed that when I saw Dellamore Dellamorte pop up. It's a fun quick list, though.

For another "Nasties" listing check Hysteria... (http://www.hysteria-lives.co.uk/hysterialives/Hysteria/slasher_nasties_1.html)

yea recently i decided one of my next movie goals is to collect as many video nasties as possible (most are other regions though). so far ive gotten through about 15 out of i think 75(correct me if im wrong, im going off the hysteria list mostly) and need to watch about another 10. anyways thats a cool thread that will keep me occupied.

Sorry Adric, it's a pet peeve of mine, and illustrates the problem with that thread. The list known as "Video Nasties" was added and subtracted from time and again. However, only a small number were ever prosecuted, and those that were represent the true "Video Nasties". The others were added and evetually removed.
So, there were 39 titles that qualify as "Video Nasties", and only 39.
Absurd
Anthropophagous the Beast (Several release in Europe, all subpar)
Axe (SWV)
Beast in Heat (SS Hell Camp) (Shriek Show)
Blood Bath
Blood Feast (SWV)
Bloody Moon
Blood Rites
The Burning (Vipco, UK, Horrible)
Cannibal Apocalypse (Image)
Cannibal Ferox (Grindhouse)
Cannibal Holocaust (Superbit)
The Cannibal Man (AB)
The Devil Hunter
Don't Go in the Woods, Alone!
Driller Killer (Several releases)
Evilspeak (AB - R2 is a better disc)
Expose
Faces of Death (Several releases)
Fight for Your Life (BU)
Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (Criterion)
Forest of Fear
Gestapo's Last Orgy
House By the Cemetary (AB)
House on the Edge of the Park (SS)
I Spit on Your Grave (Image)
Island of Death (I forget, it's out there)
Last House on the Left (You know)
Love Camp 7
Madhouse (NOT the Price movie)
Mardi Gras Massacre
Nightmares in a Damaged Brain (R2 - but cut)
Night of the Bloody Apes (SWV)
Night of the Demon (Coming to R2 - CUT)
Snuff (BU)
SS Experiment Camp
Tenebrae (AB)
The Werewolf and the Yeti
Zombie Flesh Eaters (Fulci's Zombi 2) (SS)
In parenthesis I have put some commonly used alternate titles. After that the ones I know are out off the top of my head.
As I said, titles were added and then taken off the list quite often. Sure enough, at one time there were more than 70 titles on there. However, being on the list didn't always mean they were on for long, and around half were dropped - leaving us with the official (as in governmental official) list of Video Nasties. 39 titles, no more, no less.

ahh thanks. that makes my job easier i guess even though ill end up seeing those 75 anyways. at first i always thought i was something around 40 but then i counted off hysteria and came up with 75. and the 15 i have seen are the ones off that list of the original ones

Actually, I just went through that thread again, and it's not very good :D
Threads here are way better. Maybe at rottentomato they're not used to talking about horror films ;)

I decided it's time to resurrect this thread. The video nasties are fascinating!
I recently purchased the book Shock! Horror! Astounding Artwork from the Video Nasty Era through Amazon.com and am finding myself constantly flipping through it. Does anyone else here own this? The cover art in this book is outstanding and I love the little summaries in the back of the book that tell a short history of each film. Personally, I'm surprised at some of the films that were included, even on the final list of 39, like The Werewolf and the Yeti (WTF?!) and Madhouse. I've seen the latter; it's not that gory. And The Werewolf and the Yeti doesn't seem like the kind of film that would normally be deemed obscene, I'm sure there are definitely films that are a lot worse than a Paul Naschy werewolf/yeti flick.
Any thoughts?

Sure, I have the book. The list was pretty non-sensical and was a knee-jerk reaction to an non-existent problem. But there were a few years there when Brits had a choice to avoid censorship, and they were glorious indeed.

once the the whole video nasties thing got rollin films were prosocuted for the box art and the synapsis on the back of the box, not all of the films were actually viewed before they were pulled...............

Yeah, I kinda figured that. Even so, I wonder what made The Werewolf and the Yeti seem more "obscene" than... oh, let's say Night Train Murders, which didn't end up on the final list of 39 video nasties?
Is SS Hell Camp any good?
