Lately I have been getting into Ghost things I watched 2 documentarys on Realty TV and now I am hooked. I've have gotten a book from the library that I am really enjoying called the Other Side: The Boy Who sees Ghots and I am dying to rewatch the Amytiville Horror remake. So can anyone recommend any other good Ghost movies that are in the style of the Amytiville Horror?

The Changeling is one of the better haunted house stories.

Thanks guys I've seen Poltergeist 1, 2 and 3. I've also seen the Changeling and I have both versions of the Shining on DVD. But I will check out the other ones. Thanks.

Woman In Black (1989 made-for-British-TV) is the scariest ghost movie I've ever seen. It's out of print, but bootleg DVDs can easily be found on Ebay.

Also check out The Innocents (1961), a variation on The Turn of the Screw. It's still in print, VHS only.

The Sentinel and The Innocents are tops when it comes to ghost films. For a more disturbing one, check out The Entity.

I would second the recommendation for Session 9, but that's not a ghost movie IMO.

I second The Devil's Backbone. Definitely one of my favorites. Stir Of Echoes also, very excellent. I'm not a huge fan of The Sixth Sense, but that's only because I've seen it like 5 times (great for a first-time viewing though). I'm not a huge fan of "haunted house" movies like The Amityville Horror though, but Session 9 (although it's a mental ward, not a house) is quite good.

Ghost Story (1981), starring Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Craig Wasson, and Alice Krige. I've always loved this film.

A really underated ghost movie is The Haunting of Julia...aka Full Circle. It stars Mia Farrow and was based on a book by Peter Straub. I am actually gonna watch this tonight.

"Sweet Home"... asian haunted house thing. No subtitles but its got good Dick Smith FX... yep... Smith travelled way over that way and did the FX for this flick. Includes a cool person cut in half bit.... and the body keeps crawling.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Kairo. Its right up there with the greatest ghost films, and its tops when it comes to Asian horror too. Very creepy, and the apocalyptic storyline is quite unique. Another excellent one is Dark Water. A wonderfully emotional ghost tale.

Easily The Woman in Black from 1989. The scariest film of all time IMO.

The Innocents is a really good one as well :)

I've always liked House. It's a mixure of horror and comedy and pretty fun.

House is great, I even like House II, House III is OK nad House IV is bad.

The ghost segment "The Drop Of Water" from Mario Bava's anthology "Black Sabbath" (1963) will scare you shitless, filmmaking at its creepiest. :nervous:
