What are the best versions of these?

I already have AB's "The Church" and will be getting the upcoming release of "Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man)", but what are the most preferrable versions of "The Sect" and "Stagefright"?

Well I did some work on trying to find the best edition a month ago. This is what I found.

The good thing about the anchor bay edition is the fact that it's DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 EX. The bad thing about it is that since they made it anamorphic they zoomed on the picture. Now, you have a zoomed in film.

The Dutch EC edition has the fullframe release, meaning it's not zoomed in, so you get the entire picture. The bad thing is that it's not Dolby 5.1 EX.

I bought the anchor bay edition because I couldn't find the EC edition for sale anywhere.

After I got my copy from ebay. Instead of writing Stagefright like this in Xpolited Cinema, I tried with putting a space between the words looking like this: STAGE FRIGHT. And, the EC edition came up. But, it was too late for me.

Really it's up to you depending on what you prefer.

Thanks DD, I'd probably go with the Dutch since my stereo right now only offers 2.0 anyways.

How are the U.K. Vipko releases, anybody know any of the specs on them?

(Don't worry you guys, my questions will stop after this at least for the day since I haven't slept yet and still have to work tonight, but then again... tomorrow is another day!)

Pity it's so expensive (around €20.-).

I have the EC Entertainment disc of Stage Fright and it just looks gorgeous!
Plus there's the advantage that you can watch it (un)matted if you like it (though the matting/unmatting doesn't work properly on my player http://horrordvds.com/vb3forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)

And here are some links again http://horrordvds.com/vb3forum/images/smilies/wink.gif:

If you went here: http://dorian.gray.free.fr/deliria.html
You can clearly see the AB edition is not ZOOMED IN, it's a "matting for theatrical exhibition".
The 1.37:1 version shows the whole negative ("open matte"), but you'll notice there's too much headroom, at least for my taste. I'd definitely get the Anchor Bay edition.

That's the exact same thing that happens for example with Evil Dead, Nightbreed from Warner or Hellraiser 3 from Anchor Bay UK, the widescreen version version shows less info, but it replicates the original aspect from it's theatrical exhibition.

I remember many DVDs used to bring both versions a few years ago, but now everyone talks about widescreen and forget it's not always better, especially if you still have a 4:3 option at home.

I think I will be going with the EC release for Stagefright since it has the option to swithch between open and theatrical. It also looks darker, but not in a bad way.

Thanks again everyone, I think I'll be ordering this in the next few weeks.

You mean Herbert Lom?
I kinda dig the guy - probably too many Pink Panther movies can do that to you. Is there a good release of this one on DVD?

The Cecchi Gori Group release is the only one around and it's great!
