I like it. I'm not gonna even think of it in the same vain as the original. I think it'll be good that first shot of the water with the trees in the background and that shot of the pier are awesome. I'm looking forward to it :D

I think we've all (well, most anyway) bashed it in other threads already. I'm a big fan of the original, "dated" version but this seems like it might not be as bad as I thought. Carpenter did say that his didn't work so well, not as well as he wanted it to...so you never know.
I do loathe that Selma Blair is playing Adrienne Barbeau's role--she should be playing Jamie Lee Curtis's character. Hollywood is so fucking scared of having anyone over the age of 30 appear in a horro movie!!! Tiresome! It would be so much more believable to have a clan of ugly-ass thirty-somethings populate a movie every once in a while.

Grab your coats and thermal underwear, that trailer actually looks really cool.
I'll probably give this one a try. I wasn't planning on it up to yesterday.
Of course a PG-13 rating will make me wait for dvd.

Uh..... I'm not sure how old Selma Blair is exactly, but I do know that she's a few years older than me, and I'm almost 32.
The trailer looks like it's going to be a lot better than I expected. Doesn't look like they're changing that stuff that works from the original, fortunately. Thankfully no shots of CGI fog making scary faces or skeletal hands are to be seen.
imdb says she was born in June of 72, making her 33.

Even if the trailer is watchable (which I don't know yet, as I'm in no hurry to see it - it's a remake and I believe it has Smallville's Thomas Wooden), it means absolutely nothing as far as the film itself goes. In fact, this reminds me of the Michael Baysaw Massacre - its trailer was acceptable, yet everyone knows how wretched the actual "film" turned out to be.

You thought the TCM trailer was acceptable? I thought it was 2 minutes too long and showed way too much.
I still feel remaking The Fog was a waste of time, but then again, I love the story so if they don't stray too much from the original I think it could still be great.

Heck Yeah! It would be nice to have a scary movie where everybody was out of shape and ugly! I am so tired of all these pretty boys and super models getting parts in horror films, hell all films, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO REAL PEOPLE!!!!!!! Not everybody is in shape or Beautiful!

I think the trailer really captures the feel of the original film. This should be a great remake.

Hmmm. The trailer looks pretty good to me. It isn't as good as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer was, but still, it gave me hope that it will be a decent remake. Of course, The House of Wax had a good trailer and I ended up hating that, so I am not getting too excited about it...yet. Still, due to years of Smallville devotion, I really love Tom Welling, so this movie will always have that in its favor.
With horror doing poorly at the box office of late, I wonder if they are really worried about this one's chances.

Looks decent, it could be a lot worse. It is more than just a sell-off remake though, since Carpenter and Hill are both the big producers behind it. Maybe, with a younger director, Carpenter can achieve the kind of scares and success that have escaped him in his old age. Blair looks to be a good fit in the movie, and I was initially very against her casting. In retrospect though, Barbeau created such an iconic, wholesome character that really, nobody could fill her shoes. I was also surprised at how dark the entire trailer was, like no comic relief or even empty character development. Just a relenting atmosphere throughout, which I think bodes well for the film. The original had some amazing characters, but what still lingers are those foreboding shots of the fog just permeating the town. A lack of CGI is also nice too, although the shot of the fog through the air duct in the car was kind of cheap looking. Still, I am excited, even if I know it won't touch the masterpiece of the original.
Colin has the following to say about the trailer...
http://publish.hometown.aol.com/erraticprocess/images/colinjoava7xx.gif
The trailer is completely uninteresting and uses the "fade" technique about 953 times in the first minute.
Of course, I will still see this but I have extremely low expectations.

Wow. I thought she was much younger. Good for her, I suppose. I think she could have better fit this role (in my mind) if she'd kept her DIRTY SHAME tits.

Oh, and now that I've seen this MTV videoclip, it surprised me... as it was even worse than I had expected. Fast-forwards, speedups, zooms, cuts, not a millisecond of even a shadow of tension and ambience, Welling being stiff and unable to pronounce even one line with conviction, and, predictably, the dead sailors being shown in every detail, in "glorious" CGI. It probably has a full story of Blake's childhood, too.

But at least it was set to a generic yet actual score rather than nu-metal or rap noise.

If this is PG-13, forget it. I'm tired of the parade of complete shit PG-13 horror movies over the past few years. Thankfully we still have some ballsy releases to be thankful for like Devil's Rejects and House of Wax.

But don't you think if the original THE FOG were released today as is it would most likely muster a PG-13 rating? Think back upon it. Compared to what gets R ratings today and what doesn't, what is there specifically about it that would justify an R? Even the language is mild by today's standards.

The clip of the underwater ghost is too quick to tell for sure, but it doesn't look like CGI to me but old school optical effects and double exposure that are at most computer enhanced. You may be right about it, but it wouldn't be surprising to find a prop of that ghost in a closet somewhere.
After watching that shot over and over again, I also suspect that the ghost was shot in reverse.

If anything, the original should have been PG-13 (if that rating were around then). The added gore shots seem totally out of place, since like Halloween, indeed even moreso, it is a film that relies on subtlety. You don't need an R to achieve some killer atmosphere, so I am not worried in the least bit by the PG-13 rating tagged to this.

I'm not sure about that yet. For me it will depend on what kind of music Selma will be playing (http://www.horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=24759&highlight=Battle) ;)
That said, I like the trailer. I also liked the Cold Creek Manor trailer but that film turned out to be a huge pile of shit ...
If the trailer looks good, and makes the movie look good, and makes you want to see the movie, then the trailer has done it's job, and has done it well (and the marketing folks have earned their paycheck). But, like many of you said, there are some really suck-ass movies that have had really kick-ass trailers, so don't get your hopes up too much!!!
I think I'll be able to wait until it comes out on video.

Look no further than Devil Reject's....I personally think they're was LOTS of ugly, older, slightly out of shape people in that movie (Sherri Moon being the obvious exception & maybe that chick from Pee Wee's Big Adventure).
I gotta refresh myself & watch the original soon.

For me this trailer didn't look like much, but i'm hoping they made the trailer fast-paced and "exciting" so as to disguise the quality suspense and storyline from the unsuspecting general public who need russian montage to understand something's happening.
But god i hate those young actors from smallville and whatnot. All we need now is someone like ross from friends to be in horror film. Well, at least it makes you appreciate old school actors even more.

Remakes don't bother me anymore, but this new wave of trailers is really beginning to piss me off. Stylized establishing shot, tagline, someone says "what's going on?" someone screams, says something profound, we see helpless victim (who often actually ends up living in the movie), some panic, a glimpse of the monster, someone asks "what do we do?", more glimpses of movie except edits become faster, all of this with music that continues to swell in intensity of the action... Here we pause for a bit of a breather, only for another surprising jolt, some more fast edits, and then someone says something over "insert tagline here."
It's the theatrical equivalent to the "floating head" poster art that's finally beginning to wane a bit.
I miss the whole "In a world where... One man..."
I'm sorry I don't understand how anybody can consider that a good trailer, movie be damned.
Haha, that's the exact formula. I just can't get excited about that because it's so damn done to death.
All I can say is I'll see how the movie is when it hits the dollar theater, on .50 cent Tuesday.

It's not exact yet, I forgot to mention that there is usually an "unexpected" jolt at the very end of the trailer.
There you have it, hell you can make any movie look intense with that formula. Maybe I should try that with Must Have Dogs.

Man, you lost me there. The moment I saw the trailer for Cold Creek Manor was the moment that I knew it would be one of the worst, most uninspired films of the year. I mean, that trailer had me rolling my eyes at how predictable it was. If the studio has that much trouble making even a passable trailer, then you have to suspect that the film itself is beyond saving.

Of course then there are cases in which a truly good film has a trailer so wretchedly bad that it makes me glad I never watch trailers for pre-2000 films before seeing the actual film... It often happens when the trailer has little to do with the film and tries to present it as something that it is not - or if it is a belated trailer for a film in which someone currently considered a "star" was merely a tertiary character of no importance, and the new trailer desperately tries to recast that character as the protagonist...
Interestingly, the best horror film in history also had the best trailer in the whole cinematic history, ex aequo with "A word of warning...", for "Alien"... Something beyond comprehension is happening...

I recently read an article in the latest Fangoria about this flick. There's a guy in this flick who claims he's just there for "comic relief".....oh boy!!
In fact, almost every paragraph had me groaning with dismay with every "new and exciting" upgrade to the old movie that was mentioned. Think I'll skip this one in theatres.

My girlfriend and I have this conversation all of the time!
Everytime we see a really horrible trailer we both give our own narration.
In a world gone mad, 2 tough cops/two gay cowboys eating pudding are breaking all the rules!
Against unsurmountable odds, running out of time, with nobody to turn to...
both of their lives will be changed... Forever!
