Anyone know more about this '64 Margheriti film? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058307/)
It stars Barbara Steele which is a plus. And the story is by Gastaldi.
But is it good? And what about the company who's putting it out?
Found it at Amazon:

It is very good.In fact it is one of my personal favorites with Steele.Dont hesitate to get it.As for Music video distribution. They suck,But the movie is well worth the effort.Close to Black Sunday.Very close.

Thanks Jimbo,put it in thewishlist.
Anyone else an opinion?

Apparantly this disc will not be worth it.And according to Marc Morris (AB UK if I'm not mistaken) :Music Video Distribution/Eclectic, which means they'll be poor transfers, most likely from inferior unlicensed masters
So....taken off the wishlist again..
But the movie I'll keep in mind.Perhaps another time, another company...Synapse or Image?

I have an old vhs copy and also a widescreen dvd-r.I just rewatched the dv-r last night. The quality of the print is not anything great but watchable.I do believe this is a public domain movie.I have been waiting for many years for someone to put a quality release out of this. But for some reason it is one of those movies that many people dont know about.
MVD sucks,And my guess is that their print will be the same as the dvd-r copy I have that I believe was taken from a 16mm print. But anyway,The movie is good.Barbara Steele looks spactacular in it and it is a pitty that this will still not get a quality release.
I will pick it up and compare and let you know.

Got it,Watched it and compared.Same print as my dvd-r that i have had for years now. While the print of this film is not the best in the book,it is widescreen and I would suggest giving it a try if you can live with say Alpha quality. If you go into it not expecting a great sorce print then you will be fine. The movie and Barbara Steele make up for it.This is a classic gothic horror movie that deserves some attention.
That being said,Wouldnt it be nice if NoShame put out a quality relese of this. They are doing some fantastic work on Antonio Margheriti's other films.I have in the past contacted several companies about this film,All might I add who responded that a good quality print has yet to be found.Maybe one might surface someday.Or maybe, just maybe NoShame has this in the works.I sure as hell hope so.It needs some respect. ;)

Here's a review:
http://10kbullets.com/reviews/long-hair-of-death/
Looks exactly like the one you gave me Jimbo.I'll watch it soon.
I'm a bit into Gothic lately :)Having ordered Virgin of Nuremberg and watched Terror Creatures..And expecting the Horror All'Italia book in the mail soon.
It's indeed a pity this kind of films never gotten good DVD treatment. There's still so much out there to be discovered.Where's Freda's work for instance?
I'll get back when I finished Long Hair of Death.
Too bad this disc sounds like such a bad release because I find this one intriguing. I hope someone puts out a better version!

Well finally I watched this today.
It's classic (not A classic, just classic).I really enjoyed this one,not expecting too much.Really great atmosphere and camerawork.
I really like Margheriti's work.
Sure Margheriti's plots aren't anything really spectacular but for some reason that doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter for most Italian films really.
The picture quality isn't the best as stated before but once you're in,you kind of get used to it.It didn't bother me that much.
Yesterday I emailed Dark Sky Films about releasing some Margheriti and other lost Italian classics (Freda's work for instance!).I hope they will answer my mail.
Thank you Jimbo for giving me this classic!

Read today,on another forum, that Raro is planning a release of this Gothic classic.
I sure hope it's as good as the French release, with an English option.
Will keep you updated.

I've always wanted to see this one,Margheriti tends to be overshadowed by several other genre favorites, but he did direct some fine films and was a clever guy.

I wish Xploited would get this new release in...I ordered the French release from them last year, without realizing it was without English subs. Luckily I noticed before opening it. But yeah, I'd still love to see it.

I see that Xploited Cinema has this now but I don't know what the quality of this release is like ... is it good or bad?
It does say WIDESCREEN (but no mention of 16x9 so it might not be 16x9 or it could be ... who knows) and it does say there is an ENGLISH language option.

According to Tony "Xploited" Simonelli:
hi!
it looks like me like it's the same print, but i'm going off of memory. personally i didn't think the French release was all that great either, but definitely better than the crappy US release. hopefully someone will do a comparison of those releases, but so far i haven't seen one. the raro dvd isn't horrible, but i guess i was a bit disappointed as i expected something to be better than the previous releases.

I will pick it up very soon. The screenshots from the French release looked pretty good to me:

Apparently the source materials from the Raro and the Artus (and all other releases?) are the same.
Some scenes were in such a bad shape that Raro decided to cut those.
Which in turn means that the French release is the most complete one.
Here's an example:

Looks like Raro will finally release this one on blu-ray. I came close to picking up the OOP Midnight Choir disc for $30.00. Glad I held off.

The Midnight Choir release was a bootleg anyway. Straight copy from the Italian release IIRC.

I didn't know. No wonder it went OOP so quickly. I'm curious about the print Raro will use as well.
