I believe this was an 80s film, possibly early 90s. It involved a high school boy that finds out he is from another planet. He has a dog named "VAN HALEN". From what I rememeber it was a typical plot with a love interest and bullies at school.

thats definitely it. it came out in 1988. Adam West was in it.

It's quite a fun, quirky movie for sure. I haven't watched it in a few years, but I do still have the VHS around here somewhere. I might just have to watch it again now! Now, where's the damn DVD???
