Is this really a slasher? Hm, the box art claims it is so.....
I picked up the recent R2 release of this film, and watched it tonight.
The film itself actually looks intriguing. The final third has some wonderful visuals that are probably very good indeed.
I say probably because "Stax Entertainment" appear to have taken the Brentwood print of this film, downgraded it, and put it to silver. To say it is horrible is an understatement. 4:3, with a worn out VHS transfer, and zero extras. Yummy.
Pity, looks like a decent film. DO NOT BUY THIS R2 DVD!!!
The print I saw was terrible. If what you saw was worse than what I saw? Wow.
It's a shame because I seem to recall not being able to hear some of what was being said, in addition to the washed out, crappy print obscuring some action. I'd love to see this film properly if they can ever manage to restore it. I am skeptical though.
I have to admit, that cover art sold me.

I thought that the film was as bad as the transfer from what I could see... I got about halfway through the movie and turned it off, then later sold it.

Not a bad film. Good scenery and nice direction.
All the prints I have seen have been bad. The VHS tape from Paragon looked the best out of all them. The worst is the print from St. Clair Vision in their cult horror collection. The first 5 minutes is cut, and the video looks like an slp mode VHS tape.

That film was very popular on the drive-in and lateshow circuit in the 70's,but I think it has fallen into "public domain" territory,so everybody can put out a crap edition.I don't know of a definitive version of it on home video.

I actually kinda like the film, some of the acting is pretty damn bad though. I had a serperate DVD released by Diamond (I think) which looked like it came directly from a VHS transfer. I got rid of that one when I found it in a Brentwood 10-pack, and the transfer looks equally bad in that.

I don't really know if this should be considered a slasher movie, but, I guess it's alright. It had it's moments. I've seen the old Paragon video and it was so dark you couldn't tell what was going on. And I used to own a copy of the movie on dvd from (I believe) Diamond, and the quality was no better (of course!) If you can find it at the video store I'd say give it a try, but I know you can find it on dvd for around $5.00.
