Another Remake: Creature from the Black Lagoon

Reported over at Jam Showbiz (http://jam.canoe.ca/Movies/2005/10/20/1271035-ca.html)... Director Breck Eisner ("Sahara") is set to helm his second feature film, a remake of "Creature From the Black Lagoon," Variety reports.

The film will be a present-day update of the 1954 horror flick, which featured the character Gill Man, who terrorized archaeologists exploring in the Amazon.

Filming for the updated version will take place in the U.S and in either Central or South America.

Eisner is the son of former Disney chief Michael Eisner, and his other directing credits include a TV segment of "Steven Spielberg Presents Taken," and pilots for "Thought Crimes" and "The Invisible Man." *Sigh* Said it before, say it again, Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.

The idea of this remake could actually be pretty cool. The guy they have directing it doesn't give me much hope for this though. Too bad cause it could be a decent remake if it's done right. Always thought the creature from this flick was one of the best monsters ever.

Sahara's such a mess, this guy has no idea what he's doing. At least this remake had some kind of hope with Guillermo del Toro, now there's none.

And I'd also again like to point out that The Fly and The Thing are adaptations, both returned to the source material and weren't "reimaginings" of the films. The only good remakes I know of are The Blob and Little Shop of Horrors.

Yea. I was excited when del Toro and Carpenter's names were being thrown around to possibly helm this. But if Eisner's bastard son is taking the reigns, count me out. This won't have a single shred of care or technique put into it. Why don't they just give it to Stephen Sommers so he can continue on his quest to ruin the entire Universal classic monsters line up?

'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Script Review!!!

Now this is what I call a news piece (plus you get to check out their new site design)- Latino Review posted an exclusive review of Universal Pictures' Creature from the Black Lagoon, which was written by Gary Ross. The film is to be directed by Breck Eisner. As much as this sounds like good news, they rated the script a D+... can you say OUCH?! I hope this isnt the final draft, because I've been dying for this film for quite sometime now. In the original a scientific expedition traveling up the Amazon River encounter a dangerous humanoid amphibious fish creature.

I hope they stick VERY close to the original creature design. Creature form the Black Lagoon is my favorite Universal monster.

Yeah, but the play was based on the original film. It'd still consider the new Producers to be a remake even if it's based on the play which is based on the original movie. They're still based off of the original movies.

The Bela Lugosi Dracula is based on the play Dracula, not the novel, yet I'd still consider it an adaptation of the book instead of the play. I just trace it back to the original source.

Yeah, one thing that would definitely make this worthwhile is if they cast some "hot" young actress in it (like Mischa Barton) and gave a some good skinny-dipping scenes.

No movie can't be made better without some female full-frontal nudity.

Only days after casting for their remake of The Wolf Man, Universal Pictures has cast veteran creature performer Brian Steele to play the Creature in their remake of The Creature From the Black Lagoon, according to the Horror Channel. THC explains that Steele’s more recent gigs have included lycanthropic shennannigans in both 'Underworld' films, a Hell Knight in 'Doom' and the Drake Monster from 'Blade: Trinity'. He even played the creature in Stuart Gillard’s aptly titled TV movie 'Creature.' Breck Eisner is set to direct the pic, which is scripted by Gary Ross.
