In one way or the other, this story has been told a million times. Piranha itself was hardly original. I can't get all flustered about it being remade, even if I love the movie. Hell, I have a dvd of prior remake of the movie, so why not bring on another?

I remember producer Chako VanLeeuwen (sp.)? was talking about a remake in 1997 some months after SCREAM was a hit from the previous Christmas of 1996. I read this in the SF Chronicle since I was (then) big on SCREAM. The remake was to cater to "that" crowd but I never heard about this remake since. Until now...

They already remade it in the mid 90s or so. It had William Katt and Alexandra Paul. It sucked fat horse cock. The original ruled and the 2nd one isn't too bad at all. A 2nd remake? Interesting, but not needed.

Bah! It's not like it's some untouchable classic. I really like the film and everything but maybe if they made it more serious with some nice pirahna eatting people scenes, it might be worth checking out. `Sides I like goofy nature-gone-wild flicks. This one could be fun.

Storyline, Director Announced for 'Piranha' Remake!

There are some remakes you can't help but gag at, but then there are the ones you can't wait for... Piranha being one of them. Announced a few months back was a remake of the 1978 film "Piranha," in which a particularly nasty prehistoric strain of the flesh-eating fish is unleashed in Arizona's Lake Havasu just as college kids come to party there. Chuck Russell was attached to the script, and that's all we knew at the time- today the film was officially announced as a Dimension Films picture, which can mean only one thing- theatrical Piranhas!! Dimension Films will distribute "Piranha," the remake of the 1978 horror hit being produced by Mark Canton from Atmosphere MM and Marc Toberoff from Intellectual Properties Worldwide, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The company picked up rights to U.S. and all English-speaking territories from IPW, Atmosphere/Relativity Media and Wild Bunch.

Chuck Russell ("The Mask") is in negotiations to direct from a script he wrote adapting the original movie. In the remake, the story is set in Lake Havasu, Ariz., which sits on a crater formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption. When a tremor cracks the lake floor open, prehistoric piranhas are set loose and people begin to disappear. Russell's screenplay uses elements from drafts by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger and the original screenplay by John Sayles from a story by Richard Robinson.

I had the chance to see the original filmed at Aquarina Springs in San Marcos, Tx. Lots of ketchup was used. Ralph, the swimming pig the mention in the movie was named after my neighbor. Small trivia, but true.

This one is so totally uninteresting that for the first time i can say with some certainty that i doubt i will ever see this remake if it comes out. For me it doesn't even have curiosity value, like Dawn and the Fog remakes did.

The original was the first DVD I bought (well, I bought a stack of them at once, but that was the first one I grabbed) and although I know they've already remade it once (yes, it truly did suck fat horse cock), I welcome a well done remake...just as long as it doesn't rely on the WB casting, and trite catchphrases....hmmm....did I say I was looking forward to it???

Not much was revealed about the WeinsteinCo.'s upcoming remake of the classic horror film Piranha other than Chuck Russell being the writer/director- today the same website that carried stills and a poster from Marilyn Manson's Phantasmagoria has goodies for the remake as well. They should not use CGI for this movie.I agree, but I'm sure not only will they do that, but since the remake supposedly revolves around vacationing college kids, I can almost guarantee that the movie will be stocked with the latest WB/UPN teen idols. I know this one is going on my "must not see" list.
