From Horrorchannel.com:
Halloween exec producer and franchise head, Moustapha Akkad, was just one of the hundreds injured in last night's deadly bombings in the Middle East. His thirty-year-old daughter, Reem, was killed according to various news sources.
The blasts occured amongst three separate Western hotel chains in the Jordanian capital of Amman. Fifty-nine people were killed. Officials obviously suspect Al Qaeda's involvement due to the timing, precision and location of the attacks which took place before 9pm last night. Two Americans reportedly died in those bombings.
Akkad suffered a heart attack and, according to our sources, is listed in critical condition. NBC News reports tonight that Reem, a mother of two, and Akkad were in a Hyatt Hotel lobby when the bomb inside went off.

Damn. Terrible news! RIP Akkad. I hope his son gives us more Halloween as Michael Myers is my favorite horror franchise and I'd pay to see more. :(

Oh wow. Awful news. Sure, many have died in these bombings before but when you put a face/name to it... :(
And I don't care how shitty the sequels became, they were still fun and entertaining. He will be misssed.

Well this blows. This guy produced so many hours of fascination and entertainment as a youngster. Hell, even today. Sad that him and so many others died.

That's terrible. As much as everyone always gave him flak for all the HALLOWEEN sequels, he really was a man who cared about social issues and one who wanted to change the world for the better. The two movies he directed are actually quite good, THE MESSAGE and LION OF THE DESERT. They were both important nationalist tools in trying to unite Arabs after they were in shambles from the influence of imperialism. They were both expensive labors of love for the Middle East, and yet they were both some of the biggest box office failures in history. This is partially why he kept making HALLOWEEN sequels, just to recoup the loss he underwent trying to unite his people. He seems to carry around this reputation of being a hack, but he was anything but. Nobody has been more passionate about the HALLOWEEN films than he, and I do hope his son carries on the legacy out of respect to his father.
Ironic that he put all this effort into uniting the Middle East, and yet he died because it remained divided. RIP.

I love Moutapha and it's terrible news. I only hope he had many Halloween projects in the works. Because I know he said he would make them to either some really big number or til' his death. And everybody should do what they love for as long as they possibly can. Rest in Peace or whatever you feel is appropriate.

Yeah anyone who uses this death to say "Well at least the Halloween sequels will stop" should really check yourself for a soul cause that is low as all hell. Rest in peace Mr Akkad and thanks for entertaining me and starting a burning desire in me for horror cinema with Halloween.

The man loved Michael Myers and I give him props for that. What really makes this all the more tragic is that he didn't have to die. Some towel-headed sonofabitch blows his worthless ass up and affects thousands of lives. That's no way to die.

Awful, Awful news! Moustapha Akkad holds a special place in my heart for his love and energy that he brought to the Halloween series. Halloween is my all time Favorite Horror Movie, and I LOVE the Halloween Film Series.
I always loved how he talked about Halloween and Michael Myers in interviews and how much he wanted to see the film series continue. He was a driving force behind the Halloween films, and he will be sorely missed. I only hope that his son continues on his father's legacy, with the Halloween series. He was a great man, and I will miss him.
Lost for words.
Rest in peace.

Thats too bad. We lost Debra Hill recently too right? So two of the Halloween greats. Sad indeed.
I agree the sequels (besides 2 and 4) sucked...but lets show some respect. We ALL die someday and I'm sure you wouldn't want people dancing on your grave like that or speaking bad of you.

I don't think the death of anyone on these boards will make the 10'o clock news.
That said, my dad told me the news to me. I told him that Akkad said something along the lines of "I'll keep making Halloween movies till the day I die"

A sad day indeed.Anyone who doubted Akkad's true talent should catch up to LION OF THE DESERT,his directorial effort about the Italian invasion of North Africa prior to World War 2.This is an impressive epic, played out with a fine cast on a grand scale.Anchor Bay is releasing a new Special Edition dvd of it shortly.
Artists can be destroyed by violence but the true essence of their art can not be.Akkad lives on in every person who ever saw his work.Rest in Peace.

Done.
Listen up folks - it's been a while since I've said this, so I'll say it again...
Disrespectful posts aren't allowed in obit threads for the very reason that occurred here, that they only serve as threadcraps and in turn create flame wars. We don't need that kind of bullshit in threads in general, and we certainly don't need them in obit threads.
In other words, if you don't have anything nice to say, just stay out of the thread.
Thanks,
Hyde

RIP to somebody who showed more dedication than anyone to my favorite series of films in any genre. Thanks Mr. Akkad for all the great films and years of entertainment. You will be sorely missed by me and I won't forget the difference you have made in my life through the Halloween films. If it wasn't for you they would have stopped long ago.

'Halloween' Producer Buried in Syria
Nov 14th, 2005
Moustapha Akkad, the executive producer of the Halloween films who lost his life in the hotel bomb attacks that hit Jordan on Wednesday, was given a hero's burial in Syria yesterday. The 69-year-old, who also directed the 1981 movie Lion Of The Desert starring Anthony Quinn, Oliver Reed and Rod Steiger, was in Amman to attend a wedding in one of three hotels struck by suicide bombers. His 34-year-old daughter, Rima Akkad Monla, also died in the blast. In the wake of Akkad's tragic death, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad signed a decree awarding the American national Syria's most prestigious civil medal to award "his Arab nationalist stances." Akkad was laid to rest in the northern city of Aleppo, where he was born and raised before he moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s to study
I'd also like to add my condolences to the Akkad family.

Sorry you guys, I had started another thread, not realizing this one was up. I was blown away by the crappy news!! May he Rest in Peace.
Here's (http://www.reason.com/hod/cpf111605.shtml) a great article from Reason magazine on Akkad's life and work, and his struggle with Islamic extremists.
Very interesting read.
