Seriously.

This needs to come out in the US!

Not some lame crapo Chinese bootleg.

Gimmie!!!!!

Fangoria reported a couple of years ago that this was coming out but it was a no show.

Anyone know what happened?

I guess I'll have to watch Chopping Mall a few hundred more times while I wait...

Ask MGM, they control this, and have been running a nice print on cable a few years ago.

I would love a Fred Dekker collection. And I would love a 16x9 5.1 copy of NOTC. I've got a nice looking bootleg with cover art, but of course I'd prefer an official release.

Me too, although I made my own cover. Too bad there isn't at least a cheapy disc so I could submit this to a cover site as a custom. I think it came out nice, esp. for one of my first tries over a year ago.

It's in the same place as Night of the Creeps(which I find more enjoyable)....In a no-release wasteland we will probably never see...

we should start an angry mob with torches and pitchforks and we should chain the MGM executives to the wall and smear acid goo over their faces.

The company that was supposed to release alot of good titles like Night of the Comet was bogus and pretty much a prank. As for Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps, you may want to talk to Fred Dekker. He's able to be reached through his company/agent and even spoke at the Burbank Godzilla convention if you were there.
I talked to both Kelli Maroney and Robert Beltran and things are still up in the air for Night of the Comet. TerrorVision is suppose to come out next year, though.

First thread I found that seemed to fit the bill for this:

Take this for only what it is but I read on another forum that TCM has Night of the Comet for pre-order:Night Of The Comet [DVD] (1984) Now Accepting Advance Orders!
What if the only people left alive in the world were Southern California teenagers? That's the premise in this campy, enjoyable sci-fi tale of two sisters who must fend off zombie-like mutants and mysterious scientists after a comet's passing exterminates nearly all life. Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney, Robert Beltran, Mary Woronov star. 100 min.

If it's real, it sounds like a bare bones release.

I saw this on sky digital last night on the sci-fi channel. Not bad. Would not call it a zombie movie.

TCM Distributes their own films? Does that mean it won't get a wide release? I guess a bare bones release is better than none at all, but I still have my old VHS, which isn't a bad copy, so when they do barebones releases, it keeps me from upgrading, since even though it won't be as good a transfer, I can put my VHS on DVD-R. At least people who haven't seen the film or who have wanted a copy will be able to get one!

I just watched this on cable the other day. Kelli Maroney has been campaigning hard to get this film released so hopefully MGM will cooperate with her and we can get some decent special features out of it.

I saw this not too long ago for the first time since the 80s. My opinion? Once it finally gets it's DVD release there are going to be a lot of people wondering what the big deal was and why so many people were dying to have it. It isn't a bad movie, but it is spectacularly mediocre. An interesting premise, but it didn't have a good enough script or a high enough budget to make it really work. I'd say it's a great candidate for being remade.

I didn't see Night of the Comet for many years and then went to see it at the Castro Theatre two months ago over Halloween weekend here in San Francisco paired up on a double feature with Night of the Creeps. Sure I've always been partial to Night of the Creeps (one of my favorite movies and it stars the always awesome Tom Atkins), but Night of the Comet just didn't hold up nearly as well in comparison. I thought it dragged and that the "monsters" were lame.
