I just watched Rabid Grannies and I have to say that it was a piece of shit.

Thoughts?

If you can see Rabid Grannies uncut, and preferably subbed. It's got potential as a cult classic. As Troma released it however, it's utter trash.
As for Troma stuff, Toxic Avenger, Troma's War and Class Of Nuke 'Em High are all classics in my eyes, as well as some of the stuff they released, like Combat Shock, Surf Nazis et al.

I love how Kaufman says in the beginning of the film "director's cut", what a joke. The transfer is just a bit better than a VHS copy. I tried warning my old lady that Troma usually puts out pieces of shit but she doesn't listen. She is on this funny title movie kick.

Toxic and Class are ok not my thing though. Usually when I see Troma on the DVD case I stay far away from it except for Redneck Zombies which is a CLASSIC but that wasn't a Troma release originally.

Another misleading topic title. It should be "Who likes Rabid Grannies?"

I like Troma movies, not all of them of course (Rabid Grannies being one I don't care for).

That's like posting the title: Who likes Blue Underground?
And then saying: Man does Uncle Sam suck. Jeez.

I'm typically not a big fan, but I do love Terror Firmer, Tromeo & Juliet and Toxic Avenger.

I'm not very interested in their own productions but they pick up some interesting stuff here and there like Killer Condoms, but then put them on shitty DVDs. The DVD of Rabid Grannies Troma released in the Netherlands version is totally uncut and comes with Forklift Driver Klaus: The First Day On the Job which is a riot

RZ is one of the best movies ever made! i first saw it back in the day. i rented it from blockbuster and it was the R rated version from full moon i belive (the case might even have said parramount :nervous: ). boy was it butchered. there was no gore and the only time (from what i remember) that you saw blood was when it was on them. so no gore and just talking and i loved it anyway. that should mean something.

I'm with Shok: I used to be a big Troma fan, but I've changed my views. However, I don't hate them and some troma films have gained their special place in my heart. Some of my favourites are Monster in the Closet, Class of Nuke'em High, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD. However, it's with great shame that I must admit that the snoozefest that is Rabid Grannies is a Belgian production :( Keep in mind us Belgians don't always make crap: we've also produced Lucker.

Oh, and indeed, Forkliftdriver Klaus is hilarious!

I admit it, I like a good deal of Troma movies. I just wish they'd do a better job on some of the DVD's they release.

Tromeo & Juliet is well worth watching. It's very bizarre, quirky, and features Lemmy! If you like their movies like Toxic Avenger, then you'll probably be entertained....or at least not bored. I haven't seen it in a few years, and it's one DVD which I still need to get around to buying. It's basically just a wackily perverse revision of the classic Romeo and Juliet tale.

I just got Redneck Zombies and was horribly disappointed. I was expecting something along the lines of a real movie. Fun gore, stupid color crap.

I'm sure we've talked about this before. Anyway, I think it's well known that I think Troma are a waste. Their own films are pretty stupid, and the ones they license get terrible releases. Great huh?

Troma is an acquired taste.

where are you going to find the only movie in history with a Kodak Instant Camera in it? Huh! Huh!

Any guesses?

Troma F'n Rocks.

I personally think the films they make are very fun films. You have to take them for what they are. However, I really haven't liked many films that they've picked up, with the except of Stendahl Syndrome, which deserves a much better release. Their own films get very good releases and the extras on their discs are a blast. You can see they have a good time making them. What's always amazing to me, is the fact that they are still making movies, and obviously making enough money to keep it going. They must make most of it through distribution of crappy titles, since I can't see them sinking the money into their own 35mm film productions and making enough off of them to keep the studio running. I think they still make their own films to keep the production studio itself in the fan's eyes and to keep the Troma name going.

I love my Troma!

Favorites include:

Terror Firmer (best movie possibly ever)
Tromeo & Juliet
Toxic Avenger (1st and 4th best, but they're all good)
Class Of Nuke 'Em High (1st is best, 2nd is pretty decent, 3rd is a drag)
Troma's War
Killler Condom
Redneck Zombies
Bloodsucking Freaks
Mother's Day
Luther The Geek
The Stendhal Syndrome (needs a good release still)
Teenage Catgirls In Heat
Surf Nazis Must Die
The Chosen One: Legend Of Raven (the milk scene may be the greatest scene in dvd history)

Other movies that might as well be Troma (and cameo Lloyd Kaufman that I love):
The Janitor
Nikos The Impaler

I too cannot wait for Poultrygeist!

They must have struck a deal with PETA.Those horrifying extras are on alot of their discs now.
Personally I am a Troma fan.Even though their quality isn't the greatest alot of their pick ups might never have come out on DVD if not for them.
They do need some new extras. Some of them were funny the first couple times but they got old fast.
Favorite production-Class of Nuke 'Em High
Favorite pick-ups-Combat Shock,Graduation Day

Yeah I guess if you were expecting a "real" movie you would be disappointed but the gore is great for the budget they had ($5000!). I think it has classic lines and characters. But Troma fucked this release too.

The bootleg I had watched years ago was completley uncut and Troma has cut some of it. In the bootleg version the black guy walks over to the tent and says "where's a good place to take a shit?" and then the other 2 guys start laughing their asses off. It was pretty much a blooper that stayed in the film but Troma decided to cut it and that part is not nearly as funny. Not a big deal but when its supposed to be the directors cut it kind of pisses me off.

I hear Mothers Day is supposed to be good but I know the DVD quality from Troma will be awful.

also, altho not troma, there is Zombie '90. that is the biggest peice of shit movie. makes redneck zombies look epic. i loved it to.

I own the Tox Box with all the Toxie movies (except the most recent one), Tromeo & Juliet, Cannibal!: The Musical and Redneck Zombies. They're fun sometimes, haha.

I have not heard about the Peta stuff on Troma DVDs. That alone would make me stop buying them. I FUCKING CAN'T STAND PETA!!!!

PETA on Troma dvds? What the fuck is that all about? And Troma dvds could be better, and I'm sure Lloyd Kaufman's a nice guy, but why have him intro every fucking movie? I just think most of their dvds would be better if they weren't such fuckups.

I think Troma's films are made for a specific audience, and as they seem to know what their audience wants, therefore I say what they do, they do well.

Personally, I was always a little irritated by Troma's movies, I think they helped usher in the "anything goes, no matter how over the top" way of movie making that opened the door for a lot of time-wasting ridiculous crap...Still, I don't think they're without their charms, but one just has to know what they're in for.

Regarding their catalog acquisitions, I am pretty pissed at them. I think they can do whatever they want with their own product, and if they won't (or possibly can't) do any better with their own movies on DVD, then that's up to them, but for them to buy the rights to other movies and release them in mediocre versions is pretty annoying. Again, maybe they ARE trying, and just don't have the resources to do better, but I find that hard to believe...It seems like they've been pretty lucrative...
