Speaking of the film, i got the R1 disc the other day. You know, the film isn't as bad as some make it out to be. I was expecting a full blown clip show as some stated this film is nothing but flashbacks, but i was quite surprised to only see 3, if i remember correctly, flashbacks and they weren't that long at all. Besides, the dog having a flashback is pure gold! The movie itself is just another 80s style slasher, hell, it felt like a F13th movie because of the score (some of which seemed it was directly taken from a F13 movie, i guess Harry used outtakes from those films for this one). But what really surprised me is that there's a shower scene, out in the middle of the desert! LOL. That just cracked me up when that happened.

I bought the R2 a few months back and was kind of disappointed in the film itself--I remember actually being scared of some of the night time scenes as a kid. It was still fun for nostalgia purposes, but newbies shouldn't expect a whole lot (especially if you've seen the original recently).
And I agree with rxfiend in that there is far too much complaining about flashbacks. It's not like it's SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 2 or something.

Ugh, that DVD edition has terrible picture quality. The R2 easily blows it away in picture and sound quality.

I really liked this film when I first saw it. Doesn't hold a candle to the original, but it's not bad. Of course, I haven't seen it in several years so I need to rent it again.

Ummm, you might want to just hold on to those fond memories instead... :p

That may be the case, but it was only a few $.

I agree with rx, for the price the quality isn't horrible. I got this DVD for 6 bucks and it was worth it for me. As for the movie itself, you gotta love any movie where everyone has a flashback including the dog and where a lead character dies because they fall and hit their head on a tiny rock.

Here is a link for the Australian PAL R4 DVD release: CLICK HERE (http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/784039)

The price is 29.95 AU which is approximately $20.50 USD

I don't know what the picture quality is like or even if it is cut or not but the site lists it as being 16x9 anamorphic widescreen and with 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound.

The USA NTSC R1 DVD release is dirt cheap at MSRP $9.99 USD but it is Full Screen and has a 1.0 Mono Dolby Digital audio track. This info is based on information at AMAZON.COM (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006FMBT/qid=1138693007/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-6845047-2032031?n=507846&s=dvd&v=glance)

There is also a UK R2 PAL DVD release by Anchor Bay Entertainment and that version is also 16x9 WS and features DTS and 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Australian PAL R4 DVD release is based on the same master. The UK DVD is MSRP £16.99 which is approximately $30.10 USD.

I remember renting the old USA VHS release back when the film came out and I remember liking it enough but not as much as the original of course. However I did develop a fascination with the film and watched it a few times but I've been known to do that with "bad" films. When I first got my hands on the Japanese VHS pre-record of Fulci's ZOMBI 3 (years ago mind you) I watched it over and over and over ... I was trying to make myself like it I think LOL

Anyways it has been years now since I saw HILLS HAVE EYES PART 2 so I'm not sure what I would think of it today but I sure wouldn't blow $30+ USD on it that's for sure!

Hold that thought ... I just checked the AMAZON UK WEBSITE (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001EYTA2/qid=1138693131/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl/203-3134351-7334358) and they are selling the UK R2 DVD for only £8.97 which is approximately $16.00 USD so that makes it even cheaper than the Australian R4 DVD release! Might be worth a purchase at that price!

I will never regret buying this flick for like $8 at the December DDD sale in 04. I was led to believe it was just garbage, but it's truly not. If you like Friday the 13th, there's a good chance you'll like the flick. As a matter of fact, it's eerie how similar it is to a Jason movie. It's cheesy and funny as hell to boot.

I juste watched it and I tought it was an OK movie. I was expecting a real stinker but Hills Have Eyes Part 2 is an enjoyable 80's slasher. I got the Image region 1 DVD for 8$, but i'm still disapointed. The 1:33 transfert is very bad and the sound is ok at best.

Yeah so I'm watching this right now and did Manfredini just rip the entire score from Friday the 13th A New Beginning for this film?

Oh, it is :D

I watched this recently and found it quite annoying. Not a good moment to be found. Never thought of the Hill movies as slashers though....

I have always liked this. I saw this during its brief theatrical run, at least a year before I saw the original for the first time, and thus had nothing to compare it to for a long time...so I guess that is part of the reason it holds some extra charm for me.
