Sorry, this has been mentioned in a couple Anchor Bay topics already, but I wanted to give this its own forum, so it doesn't get lost in the mix...
My Anchor Bay DVD of Heathers, around the end of chapter 18, starts getting "artifact"ed or what have you, and by chapter 19, it gets worse and starts pausing to a point where it just becomes unwatchable. I'm about to go return my copy now (like, literally, as soon as I finish typing this), but I know someone else on here also mentioned having similar Heathers problems, so I was wondering if anybody else who's watched their copies of Heathers yet could share their experiences, good or ill.
...Hopefully they're not all messed up.

Anchor Bay either needs to find a new authoring facility, or they need a quality control department. AB may not have authored the discs, but it's the company's responsibility as a distributor to know exactly what it's selling before it signs its name to the product.

Ok. I'm back from Best Buy, and here's what I learned. All of the Heathers DVDs, at least at that store, are messed up (anywhere from chapters 18-21 they really go haywire; one just wouldn't play at all). I tried several copies in-store (I'm no fool; I'm not gonna keep driving home and back), and none of the copies worked on several different brands of players. It didn't matter who was on the cover, and the limited edition is the same deal (I tried three copies on three different players, plus the original one that didn't work at home), and they told me that they'd been getting "a lot of this disc" back. So, you know, say what you want about your affection for Anchor Bay or whatever, but this is another f*cked up run of DVDs from them. ...I just left with store credit.

You're so right. I love AB, but this is bullshit. I have one really "strong" (good) DVD player, and the latest AB discs will play on that (with the exception of OPERA) but on others, forget it. They just stop my player!!!!!! I pay good money for these discs, and I dont' have time to be fucking around with replacements every time I buy one. Imagine if you bought a blender or whatever and it breaks, then your toaster made by the same company, same damn thing. You pay money, and you THINK you're going home happy! I'm seriously not going to buy AB discs till they clear this up if I hear one more thing about it all. Love them or not, I'm not about being screwed.

I must have gotten lucky. My Limited Edition works perfectly. Funny thing is... When I bought the Tin I dropped another by accident at my local best buy ;)

If you live in Florida... Sorry :)

You know this really infuriates me.

Heathers is a great cult film that for many years was very underated, and it finally gets a Tin release from AB and it's screwed up!

AB seem to be cutting alot of corners lately:

1) No more tins, now cheaper "gatefold" packaging
2) Opera messed up, now Heathers.

For shame!

This one upsets me the most. With Dario I can survive a little while without Opera as it was not my favorite of his filmography. Heathers on the other hand, this does piss me off.

Let's just hope Anchor Bay does the right thing and issues speedy replacement discs, a la Opera (assuming the Opera discs come speedily).

tempusmori: If they do screw it up, we can always enjoy the Elite special edition of Evil Dead. :)

I think the Evil Dead franchise has gotten to big for its briches, I don't care how good a movie is, there is no excuse for a film to have a new special edition every other week. The Elite disc is fine with me, Both commentaries are enjoyable and the quality is very good. How about releasing all of Sam Raimi's short films on a single disc and release them as an anthology disc, I'm not going to buy Evil Dead again just because of Within the Woods, and it sounds like that may not even be included. You guys aren't missing much with his short films anyway, Within the Woods was okay at best. I like Cleveland Smith and the Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell Benny Hill tributes.... Don't forget Helping hand. If the AB Evil Dead SE fucks up, no big loss, I'm not getting it either way.

do you have a copy of the shorts and full length stuff they made or does anyone on here know where to get a copy... i really want to see its murder. the only thing i dont understand about these films is that they wont put them out due to music rights or whatever... i mean cant they just dub over it... it would probably be funnier.

Well, most of their stuff contains music from a stock music house, now I'm not sure of the legality of the work now (it should still be viable), Now I know they sold some of their work to some distributors, so perhaps the legality is in who actually now owns the rights to the product itself (I think this is the main case for Within the Woods, not sure about the rest though) Perhaps Sam & Co don't want themselves to look to much like asses, personally I think their short work are some of their best (I didn't like Within the Woods that much though). Most of their shorts are very much like Benny Hill (and just as hilarious), that meaning that there is hardly any dialogue and just music and soundeffects, so a redub would be appropriate if needed. The copy I own is a multigen bootleg, I'm not sure on where you can purchase a copy.

All that ish is in Video Search of Miami's catalog (on one tape, I think); but I can't say I ever felt compelled to pick it up...

Just got a second HEATHERS the other day and it played fine, except for a moment in the documentary where it froze for like a second. I got the most latest numbered tin I could fine. It might not have made a difference though. I was probably just lucky.

So, still no word from Anchor Bay on this...
The same Best Buy I went to still has this on their shelves...
Since I guess this movie doesn't have the same die-hard fanbase as Opera, I guess this defective run is going to stay low-profile, and AB's just going to say/ do nothing...?
Dammit, I really want this DVD, too!
