I know, I know... Tons of threads and responses on Evil Dead DVDs and which version is best, but I had a brief question. I own the "Bruce Campbell vs. Army Of Darkness" version of the movie and I saw a used copy of the "Boomstick Edition" at work, which I can get for a decent price.
Is it worth it, or will it be a waste of money? Any and all input is appreciated!

best one overall is the R3 MGM release
As for R1, I think the Boomstick edition is the best as it has both theatrical and director's cuts (which make up the rest of the R1 releases). From what I understand (I don't own it) the disc 1 of the boomstick edition will be nearly identical to the one you already own, and disc 2 will have the director's cut.
If you can go region free, I *STRONGLY* recommend the R3. Picture/sound quality is way better. See here:

Agreed. If you only ever want to own 1 copy of Army of Darkness, then the R3 MGM disc is the one to get.

I don't have a region free player yet... Still holding on it and I know I should get one. I'm looking for the best R1 release, I guess.

The R3 disc from MGM is easily the best in terms of video/audio quality.
The best R1 release is probably the old 2-disc limited edition. The Boomstick edition has the same content as that release, just with a cheap and crappy looking package design.

I like the way the boomstick edition looks. :(

According to dvdcompare.net, the old R1 2 disc and the boomstick are identical aside from the packaging.

After seeing the screen captions from several scenes, I do have to admit the R3 MGM release does look better, but I already own the Boomstick edition, and except for the better Image, Sound, and Picture, the extras look identical. If the R3 had features not available on the R1 set, then I would double dip and get the R3, also, since I have a Region Free player.

I was in the same boat, until I found the R3 for $10. For that money, I couldn't pass it up.

I did say same content. ;)
R3 MGM release is the best, the rest don't compare.

I still have the original 2 disc release, which I love. I think the Boomstick edition is an exact clone of it.
