So what are some good, scary date movies? I have a lady friend coming over on Sunday night and promised her I would find something good to watch. I know there was a recent movie I saw that creeped me out a little, which says a lot for horror nuts like us. I can't remember the flick I'm thinking of.

So give me some suggestions. Tell me some flicks you have seen - new or old - but ones that still manage to scare/creep you out in recent years.

I don't want to go for shock scares, meaning tons of gore, reanimated zombies, etc.

Rosemary's Baby
The Wicker Man
Don't Look Now
The Haunting (1963)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Psycho (1960)
Sisters
The Tenant
Wait Until Dark
The Changeling

Anthropophagus

How about The Changeling?

How much does she like horror? That would sort of alter what you would go with. Either way, you don't want to put on something that could create an awkward situation (aka a very violent rape or any movie with Hostel nudity levels) or make her think you are a crazed nut too early.

Ryan's listed some good ones, with

The Haunting (1963)
Wait Until Dark

The Skeleton Key and The Others might be good choices too. I know a lot of females who don't usually like horror but really truly love Ginger Snaps, so that might be a good choice too. Maybe. Depends on her really.

How about The Changeling?

Wow, that's an awesome choice. Just watched my Changeling dvd a few weeks ago and it really creeped me out, in broad daylight no less!!

How about The Changeling?

Ahh, I totally forgot about that one. Added it to my list. ;)

Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead.

I guess that'd be the perfect date movie.

Per chat on this subject last weekend, we thought that these movies would be bad on most first dates..

L'Enfer
The Hills Have Eyes (Either Version)
Hostel
I Spit on Your Grave
Last House on the Left

Edited to add I Spit on Your Grave.

The Thing (good for any occasion!:D )
The Descent is my GF's favorite horror movie and she still has to hold on to me after repeat viewings.;)

Way back when, I took a date to see Stir Of Echoes in the theater and that date worked out great.:D

In all seriousness, I took my girlfriend to see What Lies Beneath. Creeped her out for months.

i watched I Spit On Your Grave with my girlfriend, and two years later we broke up. coincidence?

i second (or third, or fourth, whatever it is now) The Changeling. I've recommended that to a few couples when i worked at hollywood video, and they always came back satisfied.

Session 9 is pretty creepy, too.

That's a really good choice too. The movie is excellent and pretty creepy, and Kevin Bacon digging out in the yard sans shirt would make any girl smile. Hmm. I need to rewatch that one again soon.

I can think of Shutter and Session 9.

I second all of Ryan's excellent choices.

Also, I agree with What Lies Beneath. I remember seeing that film in a theater packed with couples who had no idea of what was about to be unleashed on them ... and the screaming never stopped.

Also, my eccentric personal choices ... Near Dark is very sexy at times, but very brutal ... In Dreams by Neil Jordan is fantastic if she's into surreal, dreamlike stuff ... If she likes J-Lo, then I'd go for The Cell ;) ... Carrie ... From Hell ...

One of my personal favorites has to be

Arachnophobia

If she hates spiders (and who doesn't?!) she's gonna loooove this movie!

But my personal pick for a date movie? Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

No, I'm not serious. But it would be hilarious!

These always do the job for me:

The Blair Witch Project
Black Christmas
Prince of Darkness
Don't Look Now
Long Weekend
Rosemary's Baby
The Sentinel
Dead and Buried
The Wicker Man
Carnival of Souls
Session 9
Jacob's Ladder
The Serpent and the Rainbow
The Innocents

The Exorcist
The Shining
Rosemary's Baby
The Sentinel
Don't Look Now

Would be the top 5 of the ones already mentioned.

I know it's not out on dvd but Let's Scare Jessica To Death would be a pretty good one too.

Bela Lugosi: And you know what else? The women... the women preferred the traditional monsters.
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: The women? Huh?
Bela Lugosi: The pure horror, it both repels, and attracts them, because in their collective unconsiousness, they have the agony of childbirth. The blood. The blood is horror.
Edward D. Wood, Jr.: You know, I never thought of that.
Bela Lugosi: Take my word for it. If you want to make out with a young lady, take her to see "Dracula".

If she's alright with reading, The Devil's Backbone and The Eye are great.

The Machinist

Not so scary, but it always worked for me as a date movie: "Dellamorte Dellamore" (Cemetary Man). It has a sexy lead (for the girls), a love story, some really funny moments, some scary ones, Anna Falchi (for the boys) and a strange ending which gives you something to discuss about.

If its a date and your trying to keep it semi-tame, yet ya kinda want her to grab your arm & hug ya from fright, I noticed PG-13 movies like What Lies Beneath (big up to HerbertWest), Darkness Falls, They or the PG-13 versions of the americanized Grudge or The Ring gets the job done. The Eye is great if she's willing to read subtitles. I'm sure they are tame by most of US here (some not even LIKED but some of us here), but if she's not this "horror-loving-freaky-like-that" girl, these usually work.

A lot of U guys above mentioned some good older titles, but sometimes chicks don't dig the older flicks (those wicked, wicked chicks), they wanna see newer sh*t.

Also, you don't want her falling asleep on U, so I wouldn't throw on anything from M.Night Shymalan (with the exception of The Sixth Sense...but who hasn't seen that already???)

I'll third The Wicker Man. Granted, it does feature some nudity, but no hardcore erotica. Great flick and creepy. I rented it on a date once, and it was very successful.

She was over the other night. I suggested Wicker Man or Changeling, but she was in the mood for a comedy or drama, which was cool. We looked through all my movies and decided on one from the Hitchcock box set (Criterion). While the movie was good, we only made it about 30 minutes in. We kept distracting each other and talking to each other during the movie. We both swore that we usually keep quiet during a movie, but the distraction was fun. I ended up having a little too much rum and coke. It turned out to be a phenomenal night.

A gentleman never tells. Really though, this woman is a complete lady and I treat her as such. My ex was beautiful, but this girl is the most beautiful woman I have ever dated. I'm not some dope who says that about every girl I date, either. This girl is #1; my ex would be #2. Anyway, we had a wonderful time. I cannot wait to see her again.

actually the first date, which was a good one, we went to eat at this place down the street from my house called the french quarter that serves up new orleans style cajun food. i had some flowers to give to her and i was pretty nervous and when i handed her the flowers, i almost poked her eye out with them. then we went to go seee a movie afterwards and i let her pick and she actually chose to see the hills have eyes. we got there early though and we walked through the mall holding hands like 5th graders and i bought a monsters inc movie poster for over my mantle at this kick ass poster store we got here. (it's the best poster store ever and i've bought many posters from there.) after the movie i dropped her off and gave her a hug then i was like "i wanted to kiss you but i'm really nervous about it" and she said that that would be fine so i kissed her. twice:) yes, i know---smooooooth;) anywho we both had a great time and the relationship has progressed nicely to where she now comes over to my house fairly often to watch movies and do whatever feels right:D so the myspace thing worked perfectly to where it was basicly like--o.k. lets see the 29-39 year old women who live 5 miles away or less from my zip code. about 300 profiles came up (no shit,300!) and i went through every single one very carefully and was able to find one attractive female and i wrote her a message that said something like-"hi there, i was going through profiles and came across your picture. youre very pretty! check out my profile and write me back a few lines of you get the urge" and she did and that was that. so i was like- hey, i want that one. then the powers that be said, o.k. here you go. easy. we get along so well, it's almost weird. she makes me feel really good about myself and noone has done that for me in over 7 or 8 years so i'm super happy.

so yeah, the first date went well. :D

You should get ahold of 60 minutes Wizz, they were bashing Myspace last night with stories about how easy it is for predators to pick up teen girls.
Show them that some good can come from it as well.

Glad to hear it's going good for you. :)

While there are horror stories about MySpace, as long as you find someone of the opposite sex that is compatible with you then it's a heck of a lot better than sitting home brooding all alone like a sour puss.

Son of a bitch!!! :fucked:

I know what you mean about acting like school kids with crushes. Her and I just work on so many levels. It's great. I know some of that is the initial thrill of each other, but like I said earlier - I've dated several women over the past year and no one gave me butterflies like she does. I'm absolutely crazy about her.

Okay, we should move this to Off Topic...
