Sorry no new news on a dvd but I thought some people here may want to bring back a few good memories with these 2 goodies:
Trailer:

Music Montage:

I wish I never had seen the movie. So I could enjoy the newness of it again.
Amazing how they took the popularity from The Goonies, and made this gem.
Remember:
"Hey fat kid, nice job! My name is Horace!" (then he cocks the shotgun)
"Hey Asshole! You looked!"
"Give me the amulet, you bitch!" (I always thought that part was pretty intense, screaming that in the little girls face)

I remember renting this from the local mom and pop video store when I was about ten years old and loving it. It's been so long since I've seen it I really wonder how well it holds up. At the very least I'm sure watching it again will drum up a strong sense of nostalgia in me. I'm switching from cable to Dish Network in a few days so I'll be able to catch it on Monsters HD I guess.

It does, in my opinion. It has enough edge to keep it not childish. The Goonies still holds up. I think this movie does as well.

true enough. I just watched The Goonies a couple of months ago and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

This movie tried so hard to be the Goonies, they even got the Mikey's mother in the Goonies to play the lead kid's mom.
It's still a great, great movie though and a part of my childhood. It's sad that we'll probably never get a DVD release of this cult gem.

I only got to see this film for the first time a few months ago, thanks to a bootleg DVD-R. I really enjoyed it and understand why people would have loved it when they were younger!

I posted this a while back:
There are a couple of petitions online.

Can't hurt to sign. I think there was some other older petitions started , that had many more sigs.
And Demon posted this a couple months back:
If you want a MONSTER SQUAD DVD write to:
Mr. Sumner M. Redstone
Viacom

Again can't hurt to write.

Dekker:
With older features constantly in ownership flux, it’s often hard to get a rerelease off the ground, and Dekker is not exactly hopeful when it comes to DVDs of CREEPS or MONSTER SQUAD. “I’ve had many overtures from DVD producers, but the people who control the rights to those movies (Sony and Spelling Entertainment, respectively) don’t have a clue that anybody cares,” Dekker says. ”It’s too bad, because I’d love to do a director’s cut of CREEPS that incorporates the original, real ending (which has turned up on some cable-TV airings). And it’d be nice to see SQUAD in widescreen again, as it was meant to be.”

I actually never saw Monster Squad until about a week ago! I got my hands on a nice looking anamorphic print (wrong aspect ratio though)...I really enjoyed it. I can't believe some of the stuff this PG-13 comedy got away with!

I saw this for the first time recently (Yes, I downloaded it.. So what?) and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely buy a DVD if it were released, especially alongside Night Of The Creeps. Those are two of my most anticipated DVD releases... Right next to Harry and The Hendersons & Howard The Duck.

I know, thats why I always felt it was The Goonies with an edge.
P.S. -- Fred Dekker himself has said. The only way to get the films release on DVD was to write an honest to God snail mail letter campaign to the rights holders. Simply write WE WANT MONSTER SQUAD/NIGHT OF THE CREEPS on DVD now! Write it down, put a stamp on it and send it in.

Had a chance to speak with Fred Dekker at Fango as well as Ashley and Andre and they all say Sony has the rights now and if you bug them enough things should be in place to get them out soon.
We just has a Goonies midnight showing here in Columbus,Ohio and both nights went hugely well. Labyrinth is this Friday and Saturday.
Monster Squad one sheets aren't that rare. You can get them from places like Cinema Collectors and such for cheap. I just got another one at Cinevent in Columbus,OH for $3.

I just watched this on Monsters HD and I really enjoyed it. I thought most of it really help up well save for a couple of the jokes and the movie seems too short watching it now. It is still a very entertaining movie that was just about as good as I remember it being. The rap song that plays over the end credits is a disgrace but it was the 80's so I guess that's typical.
Who needs a DVD when you have a high def copy? Oh yeah, baby! Sweet stuff. I have this and Waxwork on high def. Two of my childhood favorites.

Isn't the laserdisc 2.35:1 though? Those screencaps look like 1.78 to me, so wouldn't HD + OAR be better?
On the topic, does anyone know the OAR of Night Of The Creeps?
After watching parts of it again yesterday it doesn't seem to have the usual tells of a P&S nightmare, so I'm guessing it was 1.85 and everything is open matte with a slight trim of the sides. Then again From Beyond looked to be open matte but there's plenty extra picture on the WS-HD version. Hard to tell.
I'm about to make my new custom NOTC dvd so that should get a HD version out soon, & I should wait for that to make it with but can't. This will be anything but HD, although definitly watchable.

I believe this is OAR. I just installed VLC and believe I had it set to fill the screen. Here's another screenshot that looks proper.

The Monsters HD version I have is 1.85:1 anamorphic......however the 2.35:1 does make brief appearances in the beginning and end.

If that's the case it's definitly trimmed though the bulk of it.
That screen Dave posted is 2.35 for sure, but when it does that for the credits that's the biggest tell of a flick shot 2.35 anamorphic originally. I've seen a few flicks on cable not do it for opening creidts, but end credits usually do that, or once in a while will be squished. If they're shot super-35 they stay open matte throughout credits.
Bummer, I would think the HD channels would respect OAR's despite a couple costumers probably bitching about "the black bars". I bet it still looks nicer than the ld, but try comparing it in the middle Dave (if you still have that laser).

yeah, I was surprised they showed it 1.78 because I also thought the OAR was 2.35 and Monsters HD shows other movies in 2.35 pretty often.
Yeah, you are right, it's only 1.85:1. Still, between watching the LD or watching this high def version, I'm going with the latter. The picture quality is just way too superior. The LD is from 1989, I believe, so it's hurting.
