wicker man even though i didn't like either one
Oh shit, this is painful. I love them both dearly but The Wicker Man gets the vote. Very little can beat my love for The Wicker Man, really.

Devil Rides Out. I like both of these, but Wicker Man is, imo, one of the most overrated films out there. I enjoy them though, but watch Devil Rides Out more.

The Wicker Man for me. The movie works as a whole, and yet has so many memorable scenes along the way. It's nearly perfect.

I've watched The Wicker Man once, many many years ago. Nothing stuck with me after all those years yet I remember most of The Devil Rides Out which I've seen a few years before The Wicker Man. Go figure. I'd like to revisit The Wicker Man one of these days but all those Wicker Man DVDs kinda confuse me. Still not sure which one to get.

If you're region free get the 2 disc UK version (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00005UL6G/026-0923315-4148421?v=glance&n=283926&s=gateway&v=glance). Then you'll only be missing the wood box, but get a commentary and remastered DC to make up for it.

The Devil Rides Out is the best pure horror film Hammer ever did. It's not one of the very few films that I love more than The Wicker Man though.

Nice. That was listed at bensons but it looked like it was OOP the way they worded it, so I just skipped over it on amazon.
I'd say the booklet and cd sound track are worth the extra couple pounds.
Although you could try a seller on amazon.uk and get the current 2 disc for way cheap. Some were around 5 pounds brand new. Not sure if they all ship to the US, but most probably do.
I think I might have to order that new set coming out though. I just wish the R1 box wasn't so cool. The smart thing would be to sell that and get the UK set, but I don't think I can part with it.
Oh how I wish I grabbed those last few boxes at Best Buy when they were cheap and no one wanted them.:(

The Devil Rides Out is fun, but The Wicker Man is a masterpiece :)

This wasn't easy for me, but I give the award to The Wicker Man. It's much more realistic and unmatched in bleakness. Both have superb villains in Charles Gray as Mocata in The Devil Rides Out and Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle in The Wicker Man. It was cool to see Lee playing a hero for a change of pace in The Devil Rides Out.

I'll take WICKER MAN.
As an aside - Glenn Danzig of DANZIG owns the mask that "The Devil" has on in that scene in the forest from THE DEVIL RIDES OUT. He actually wears it in the AM I DEMON music video when he is strapped to the cross. Same mask. He has it on the mantle in his house.

The 3-disc version of The Wicker Man is in stock at xploitedcinema.com for $34.95 for those who are interested. The soundtrack CD seals the deal for me even though I have the Anchor Bay wooden box.

The Devil Rides Out has been in my "to watch" pile for a long time. This poll finally gave me the motivation to check it out.
I strongly prefer The Wicker Man. The atmosphere is really unmatched and it sets a uniquely creepy mood. It's also incredibly well written and plotted. Throw in the authentic-sounding folk music and I don't think there's another movie like it. I've watched it many times and I always find myself drawn in immediately.
I really enjoyed The Devil Rides Out. But it does seem like more of a traditional genre film. There's a hokey quality to it that I don't find in any part of The Wicker Man. I also thought the plotting didn't stand up to close inspection. Definitely a lot of fun though. I'll watch it again to see if my opinion changes.

That's a tough one, love them each of em, but The Wicker Man won out, and more of a effect on me when I first saw it.

Did anyone else pick up the 3-disc R2 release of The Wicker Man? My all-region Oppo gives very stuttery playback of the director's cut--which is a problem I don't have with any other non-Region 1 DVD. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I'm told it may be related to the director's cut was converted from the Anchor Bay NTSC release to PAL. But I'd appreciate some feedback.
Thanks in advance.

First time out I agree - but like Sixth Sense etc - subsequent viewings are less effective to me. A good film, but once the twist is known, some of the impact is diminished.

My vote goes to The Devil Rides Out.
Probably my favorite Hammer Film.
