Not to derail the thread, and no offense to your choice, Baggio--but it is really difficult for me to see this as a Horror film, given that

There isn't a single corpse, and there is no gore or even a drop of blood.

Now, do you need all of the above to make a Horror film? Perhaps not, as some have suggested on here. But without it, April Fool's Day comes off as what its title suggests, which is a joke. You may like it--and it does have some of that 80s cheese, but you can't fault some for not appreciating its...humor.

Sorry Baggio,

I didn'y mean anything by that, Just my opinion but when thinking of classic Horror Movie's April Fools Day just doesn'y spring to mind especially as such classics as Frankenstein, Dracula, Psycho, AAWIL, The Howling, The Omen, The Fog, Videodrome, Funhouse, Any Hammer Titles, Ghost Story, The Haunted, Last House ....., Creepshow, Etc... have not yet been inducted.

Hell i'd even put CHUD, House, Hell NIght, The Burning and Zoltan in B4 April Fools Day,

How was it before it's time, Nothing in there that Twitch of the Death Nerve or Black Xmas had not done 15 years before :)

It's a shame nothing by Lucio Fulci has been inducted yet. I'd love to see Zombie or The Beyond grace the halls sometime soon! And what a disservice if Mario Bava isn't recognized soon as well: Black Sabbath, Blood and Black Lace, Twitch of the Death Nerve, Black Sunday. C'mon!

I'm totally with you,

April Fools Day is pretty poor,

It's that bad even the producers practically disowned it upon release after changing the original ending (The back of the Dvd has a shot of the original ending)

I like April Fool's Day a lot, and may vote for it down the road, but I agree there are more films that need up there first.

And I disagree that because you don't see any of the killings that it is not a slasher, or horror film for that matter. But again, some people still can't get past the fact that Jaws and Alien are horror films either, when they oviously are. If Alien took place in a city would it make it a horror film? But because it takes place on a spaceship it isn't!? If thats true than I guess Jason X isn't either. I think people need to realize that it takes more than a haunted house or classic monster to make a horror film.

Anyways, my vote is for An American Werewolf in London.

You don't say!

Comparing Jaws and Alien with April Fool's Day? Not only do the former both feature monsters as the villains, but they both contain high body counts and plenty of blood and gore (not to mention being directed by Spielberg and Ridley Scott, respectively). Probably not the best comparison to prove your point.

And I disagree that because you don't see any of the killings that it is not a slasher

We can't be talking about the same film, because there are no killings to see or not to see in April Fool's Day. The film is all about a practical joke. No one dies. It's all a laugh.

Sure, it's a funny film and it has nostalgic value (not mention great box cover art). But I don't get why it is considered Horror, nor do I see why some pople consider it classic. Feel free to answer, but leave the Horror 101 at the door.

No problem, no offense taken. you guys have some good points.

How was it before it's time,

As far as this goes. I always felt that April Fool's Day never got the respect and admiration that Scream received. (who by the way would make another good vote) Movie studios were constantly trying to reinvent the "slasher" with new twists because moviegoers basically had seen it all before. I'm just saying that it is interesting to know that one movie tried to be different long before Scream. Yet AFD had little buzz. Scream was a mega hit and had been talked about nonstop for years. Scream had some great stuff, but for my money I think AFD had a better premise. When the movie ends, it sticks in your mind longer. People usually seem more shocked by the ending...from what I have encountered. Its fun watching their faces as they realize just what happened.
And the gore. AFD still works very well without it. By the way, not much in Halloween either.

Yeah, my bad, I made a bad comparison there and realized it later. I was just using those two because they are two movies that a lot of people on this thread seem to not want to classify as horror movies either.

And as for There are no killings because the whole thing is a practical joke. That is true, but up until the end you don't knwo that, therefore it's a slasher pic the whole movie up until the end. Just because it's all a joke, it still creates scares and tension throughout the movie, which i believe is what classifys a movie a horror movie. If anythign I'd say it's horror film mixed with comedy.

The truth is there is no right answer as there is nohing set in stone what classifys a movie a horror film, everyone has their own opinions. But there's atleast two people on here that think it is (And it has been brought up in many horror discussions, polls, ect. and I think a lot people on here have said it is one of the better slasher films) so... maybe we shoul do a poll. :D
