We've received confirmation from two separate sources that Night of the Living Dead Director George A. Romero collapsed last week and was hospitalized. No word yet on the reason for the collapse, but it doesn't look good as the start date for Diary of the Dead has been pushed back two months. In addition, he has also canceled his personal appearances for the next couple of months, therefor he won't be appearing at Eerie or Shock and Rock. Inside we have a little note from Chris Roe that gives a little more confirmation to this horrible news. All of our best goes out to George and his family. Get well soon!!

>From Shock and Rock's Website:

"PLEASE NOTE: "It is with great saddness and regret that I must inform you that Mr. Romero will be unable to attend Rock and Shock this year. Due to unforseen medical reasons, which are not life threatening, Mr Romero has been given doctors orders not to travel for the next few weeks. He regrets not being there to meet with his fans, but he simply can not attend at this time. He does however hope that he will be invited back for future events."

Let's hope he does recover quickly. I met him last year in person. George is a terrific guy with a great sense of humor, very polite too.

This is awful, but I'm glad to hear it isn't life-threatening. He is such a great guy; I hope he gets well soon so he can hurry up and make more movies for us! :D

I hope he's doing better and that he gets well. Hopefully this is more of a medical scare than anything else. Maybe this'll straighten him out and he'll take better care of himself. Everyone needs a good wholesome "Hey, you're not immortal" scare now and then. I'm sure he's more frustrated about not being able to work on Diary of the Dead than anything else.

So George, stay scared. ;)

My guess it's probably nothing too major...but he is a tall man and a man in his 60s....

My six foot five great grandfather had joint problems due to his tall height for the last 15 years of his life

Looks like state of Romero's ill health were greatly exaggerated:Uncle Creepy, who is currently at Rock & Shock, gave me a call on my way home with some amazing exclusive news straight from George A. Romero's mouth: Contrary to news from other websites, Romero's newest project Diary of the Dead is not starting in a couple months. In fact, it is starting principle photography within 48 HOURS!!! That's right! Either Monday or Tuesday of this week Diary of the Dead is going to start rolling big time.http://www.dreadcentral.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=642

Very good to hear and I'm very much looking forward to what Romero's got up his sleave for this one.

A new Romero zombie film is always welcome. I'm hoping he nixes any big name stars this time though. I prefer unknown or low-key stars in his zombie films.

It will be interesting to see who is cast. Low-key stars would seem the perfect fit for this new production.

Land Of The Dead is SO awesome! I don't understand why so many "Dead Trilogy" fans hate on it so much!

Hopper, Leguizamo, Baker and Robert Joy were awesome...along with Asia as an added bonus!

It wasn't really like the films that they've come to expect from George--also, I think he just works better as an independent. There was a really long discussion in VIDEO WATCHDOG about LAND, and all but one of the panelists [longtime fans all] either disliked the film or just weren't all that enthusiastic.
I think the general consensus was that the movie lacked the depth of the previous films.

True! I loved Hopper in his role. :D He was such a bastard!

I just thought it sounded as though Romero wanted to scale everything down with this movie.

I agree. It did feel a bit shallow. Also--and I know I've said this before--but CGI blood in a Romero film? Not cool.
