View Full Version : Favorite Horror DVD of 2006?

01-01-2007, 11:13 PM
There were less must-have hits this year, and many more niche films that made the bulk of 2006 horror DVD slate. With that in mind I am sure it will be a lot tougher to devise a "best-of" poll, but I'll try my best. I'll put an "other" option, but I really do hate it. Lemme know your favorites, ladies and gents!

Has to be the TCM Ultimate Edition for me. Simple logic for me...great DVD, great film.

Of this year's films, I'll go with SLITHER--enjoyed that DVD a lot too, with the fun "meat" menu screen.

Wow, I'm very surprised that I almost have none of the DVDs listed above. I voted for the Killer Queen box set since it was a pretty memorable item. Liked the films too :p

That said, I still really want Spirit of the Beehive and Pet Sematary (and The Dead Zone ... where is The Dead Zone??)

Masters of Horror also deserve lots of props for some excellent DVD releases, not to mention giving some of the old guys a decent job again.

Voted for TCM2. Excellent transfer and cool extras.

For me it was the killer queen box.

Equinox getting the Criterion treatment gets the biggest "WHAAAA...??" reaction, just love it. Honourable mention goes to the excellent TCM ultimate edition DVD.

Voted for TCM....
As far as films that were new in 06, I'd vote for the Hills remake.

01-02-2007, 04:20 AM
Street Trash for me..... The Meltdown Memoires was a documentary that I actually enjoyed watching.

01-02-2007, 04:54 AM
Dust Devil

01-02-2007, 05:03 AM
Voted for TCM, but Equinox and Dust Devil are right at the top along with it as well.

01-02-2007, 07:01 AM
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

01-02-2007, 07:12 AM
Maniac Cop is one of the best DVDs released last year from ANY genre. Following that, I think that TCM was plenty solid too.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Ultimate Edition DVD

Street Trash. Well worth the wait for someone (meaning: me) that had never seen the film before.

01-02-2007, 06:55 PM
I voted for Street Trash. TCM is definately runner-up.

And also, another amazing DVD release not on that list, probably because it's not horror, but I have to give props up to the Tromeo & Juliet 10th Anniversery Edition.

Voted for Texas Chainsaw 2. The movie is a personal favorite and I patiently waited a long time for a special edition. My expectations were surpassed! Awesome extras and one of the best documentaries I've seen on a dvd.

Other honorable mentions I would include are:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Ultimate Edition from Dark Sky
Killer Queen Box Set
Grizzly 2 disc anniversary edition
Equinox Criterion Collection

Evil Dead Guy

I voted for Street Trash, second is Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

01-03-2007, 02:12 AM
TCM for sure. But Don't Go in the Woods was close behind.

01-03-2007, 02:36 AM
I haven't bought enough of these to vote. I want to vote for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre UE, but I still need to buy Street Trash, Maniac Cop, Don't Go in the Woods, Black Christmas, The Luciano Ercoli Death Box, The Killer Queen Box, Daughters of Darkness, and TCM 2. Needless to say, I am way behind. :(

01-03-2007, 01:14 PM
I have 5 or 6 dvd's of the original chainsaw so it was a minor improvement ( but a great dvd), but the tcm 2 disc was a revelation . So that gets my vote

TCM 2, just cuz it was such a long wait and the old one was bare bones.
Haven't picked up the original yet, but I'm sure that disc is up there from all I've read and the screen shots I've seen.

I'll give honorable mentions to Feast and Slither. Both great comedy/horror fun and nicely loaded discs.

I havent even heard of Street Trash- is this an older movie that came out on dvd?

01-06-2007, 07:26 PM
Frankenstein 75th for me, with Gojira running a close second.

01-06-2007, 11:23 PM
Daughters of Darkness ... I soooo want to get that one!

01-07-2007, 04:00 PM
vote for Hostel here. Roth is a douche, but I dig the film.

also, loved the Masters of Horror treatments, and kudos to the Gruesome Edition of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

01-07-2007, 06:38 PM
Wheres Nightmare on Elm Street infinifilm edition?

01-10-2007, 08:42 PM
TCSM Ultimate Edition

01-19-2007, 07:37 PM
Pfft?!?! Whats up? Theres no love for the Hills have Eyes? I mean come on people, Hills is one of the best remakes i've ever seen, its way better then any of the TCM remakes.

Um, the poll is for best Horror DVD of 2006, not best horror film. ;)

01-19-2007, 08:48 PM
For me, the most affecting film in there with Spirit of the Beehive. I'm glad I got to see this on DVD, so it got my vote.

01-21-2007, 05:02 AM
I'm surprised the infinifilm edition of A Nightmare on Elm Street didn't make the poll. Aside from the missing original mono track, the film looks better than ever and has a plethora of special features.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Ultimate Edition. No contest.
