The title says it all. Sure, they get nominated for their important dramas, but we all know their horror films are where it's at. So, which one of this year's slate of acting nominees at the Oscars had the best horror film performance?

Were there really that many? I know Leonardo DiCaprio was in one of those Critters or Ghoulies or whatever movies...

Only two I can thing of are more thrillers than horror.
Alan Arkin in Wait Until Dark
Kate Winslet in Heavenly Creatures

Forest Whitaker was in Body Snatchers if I remember correctly ...

You were all too quick to respond! Here's the best list I could make up, but I stretched it a bit with THE RIVER WILD.

Kate Winslet in Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorite performances.

Wow, they've all been in terrible horror movies. I'm going to have to come back to it. There's a reason I own none of those films on DVD.

Mine too, so it got my vote :)

If we are going to stretch this to thrillers, then how about Clint Eastwood's great turn in Play Misty for Me?

Totally forgot about Forest Whitaker in Body Snatchers.

Hey, here's one: Jackie Earle Haley in Day of the Locust. Not a horror movie either, but one of the most horrific scenes in movie history. D'oh!

But Clint wasn't a nominated ACTOR this year...

Yes, Winslet wins my vote. Didn't know Cruz was in Gothika.

Yes, I was thrown by the poll box itself, which doesn't specify.

I really wanted to include that just for "that" scene alone, but when a title like MANIAC COP 3 is staring at you in his filmography, you kind of have to oblige.

Jeepers! Creepers!

I do want to see Little Children. Jackie Earle Haley has had an interesting career. They were trying to cast him as the "rebel" (see Bad News Bears), but when he never filled out and only grew to be like 5'2 or something, he got relegated to geek and nerd roles as a teenager (see Breaking Away or Losin' It). Now that he's balding and still skinny, he's perfect as the creepy old man.

Oh, and I mistakenly voted for Mark Wahlberg in the actual poll. My mind was temporarily swayed when I thought of the rollercoaster scene in Fear. I would definitely pick Alan Arkin in Wait Until Dark.

I'm having a hard time choosing between Cate Blanchett in The Gift and Kate Winslet in Heavenly Creatures.

However, I would definitely have given my vote to Meryl Streep had Death Becomes Her been on the list!

Think I'm going with Kate.

I'd vote Forest Whitaker in Species if it was up there. He played it just right so you didn't know if he was crazy guy stating the obvilous or really an empath.
Plus the drinking long island iced teas never fails to crack me up, and I can't drink one without saying "I like this tea!".:D

I loved Fear. Such a cheesy thriller. I voted for Arkin though because Wait Until Dark is a fantastic film.

I had a hard time choosing between Alan Arkin and Kate Winslet but had to go with Kate. Both are great films but Winslet's character is so much more complex and she played her brilliantly.

That I can accept.

Serena including Saw III in her Top Ten Favorite Films of 2006 list? Not so much. :p

Yeah, you need a new sled partner, rhett. Or, at least let her read some of your reviews while you sit together in your igloo.

Yeah, I kind of wish AITH didn't exist. At least AICN is American.
