It's short, but it looks like this movie could have lots of potential. I'm a big Apes fan, so I hope Burton does it justice.

Great...just what we need...another remake of a movie that doesn't need to be remade..

Well, Burton goes on at length that it's more a re-visit than a re-make. I would normally be skeptical, but I trust in Burton. I thought that Oliver Stone would've had a good go with it. I thought he'd really play up the racial tension, hit on civil rights issues, and really make a serious simian epic. Although I'm not a big Stone fan, I thought he'd be perfect for this project. Afeter he left the project, there were many reports of, to me, constant, undesirable cast/crew changes. When I heard Burton would finally be at the helm, I thought "Great. Maybe it won't be the social commentary that Stone would have brought us, but it'll be a great action romp." I can't wait to see how he's done. And as far a being remade, the movie's been remade, to a degree, four times already. A fifth won't hurt. Hopefully ;) .

well, the House on Haunted Hill and Psycho were films that certainly didn't need to be remade...

Planet of the Apes? hey, Burton's a fucking genius and i have complete faith that he's going to pull it off brilliantly. i'll bet my apes box set on it.....

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS IF YOU'RE ONE OF THE 2 PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE ORIGINAL POTA YET (or the DVD cover)

It's not really a remake. For example, it's already been indicated that this one won't take place on earth.

Psycho - shot for shot remake. Absolutely stupid. If that was the case here, I'd say the same thing. Apparently it's going to be a lot different. Fan reaction seems to be positive so far. I'm definitely giving it a chance.

I'm looking forward to it as well. I love Burton and am curious to see his take on it.

I've never seen the original (I know, sue me) but the latest House on HH was pretty good, I thought. (In a brainless, fun-romp sort of way.)

Psycho, on the other hand...

Shame on you, guys! ;) You forget to include the vomit inducing remakes of The Haunting and Carnival of Souls.
Remakes/revisions are a tricky thing to pull off, cause people are bound to compare the films. Sometimes, they can be just as good or even better than the originals. (Body Snatchers '78, Ferrara's Body Snatchers, The Thing, Scarface, The Blob, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Fly, etc.)
I have high hopes for Burton's Apes "remake." I'm a big fan of the original and will give his vision a chance.

the original novel was stunning. i just read it for the first time 2 months ago. i won't spoil it for anyone who is planning on reading it, but it sounds as if burton might just be following it a bit more closely than the heston film.

Planet of the Apes was one of those very rare examples in which the movie - though different in MANY ways than the novel - was just as good.

The original House on Haunted Hill (which I bought as a double DVD feature with Last Man on Earth) was pretty damn cool!

Awesome. I just went to see Crouching Tiger again today, and they played the Apes trailer beforehand. Awesome. It looks great and I can not wait. I've got a terrible connection at home, so I hadn't been able to catch the trailer on the site. No one really seems excited so far - maybe it's a different trailer than what's online - but I felt like I was having an endorphin rush, I was that excited. Just the vision of the apes on the loose again - I'm hooked! After Three Kings, I can't knock Marky, erm, Mark Wahlberg anymore, and Tim Burton directing, and, and... and APES!!! APES, APES AND MORE APES!!! All ye naysayers, hold thy tongues! This movie will be a winner. So says The Lawgiver. :D
