I love all types of horror but what best describes the type of horror film you are usually a sucker for? Pick up to 3 of the choices.

All the above sounds good to me. :)

Well, "Gritty and realistic" isn't generally my bag. "Bad and Unintentionally funny" I prefer more than "Gory and [intentionally] funny". "Spooky with lots of jump scares" sounds kind of contradictory to me.

"Spooky with lots of jump scares" sounds kind of contradictory to me.

I was thinking along the lines of "The Ring" and other Similiar J-horror or American knockoffs.

I'd have to go for "Subtle and Haunting" since I like movies like Let's Scare Jessica to Death. Just a pity there aren't so many like this one.

But I also like some slashers and other movies, mostly those that contain lots of suspense.

I can appreciate nearly all of these styles to some degree, but the following describe my tastes best:

Lots of kills and T & A: I gravitate perhaps most towards grindhouse & exploitation horror films. Retro sleaze and trashfests with the amount of skin seen in 70's era Russ Meyer films crossed with unpredictable murderous mayhem has always been very much my cup of tea.

Non-linear and nightmarish: Movies that mess with your head and challenge while getting under your skin. A lot of Euro Horror falls into this category for me.

Hammer/AIP technicolor goodness: I have a near complete collection of Hammer & AIP films. Many of my favorite genre stars such as Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing frequented these films. The movies ranged from gothic horror to crossover horror/sci-fi to exploitation horror. Too many Hammer favorites to list, but AIP had tons of gems like: The Dunwich Horror, the Count Yorga movies, the Dr. Phibes movies, two Blacula flicks, the Poe series with Vincent Price and so much more! I love how these films relied on atmosphere and accomplished some greatness on limited budgets.

It really depends on whatever I'm in the mood for at the time. With friends, it's usually "Lots of kills and T&A" or "bad and unintentionally funny" while at home it's more "subtle and haunting" and "non-linear and nightmarish" though I do like about all of these options.

At different times all of those. The "Gore and Funny" is the one have most problems with, because most of them are either a) Not funny, or b) Funny once, and stupid afterwards.

--Your daddy's Black and white classics--

Still, I couldn't be without these.

All of the above would have been my first choice, different horror for different moods. I still picked three however.:eek2:

A-fuckin-men man...

I chose: Non-Linear & Nightmarish, Subtle & Haunting, and Hammer/AIP Technicolor goodness. A am a total sucker for these types of films!

Didn't notice I could choose three until after I voted :D Ah, being an idiot has its disadvantages. I went with Lots of kills and T&A, and would also have picked Bad and Unintentionally funny and Hammer/AIP Technicolor goodness.

I like 'em all, even the "gritty realistic" and "cringy and disturbing" ones when they are well made (which is not that often, mind you).

Love them all to certain degrees, but I'm a sucker for:

non-linear and nightmarish (e.g. The Beyond, Opera)

lots of kills and T&A (e.g. Slumber Party Massacre, Murder Set-Pieces)

gritty and realistic (e.g. The Hillside Strangler, Maniac)

Like em all.
Voted for:
Gory and funny
Lots of kills and T&A
cringy and disturbing

Just cuz I tend to watch those more often. I grew up on the T&A slashers so those will always be my favorite.

I'm really all over the map,but I have a special place in my heart for the Hammer/A.I.P gothics. They also feature my favorite genre stars,Vincent Price,Christopher Lee,and my personal favorite,Peter Cushing.

I like them all for the most part....have some problems with the gory and funny and the non-linear/nightmarish categories, but there are films in those two areas that I do like. Just that there are also some pretty popular films in those sections that don't work for me at all.

I like all types of horror but my three votes went to cringy and disturbing, lots of kills and T&A, and gritty and realistic. I likes the sick shit.

I chose: Non-Linear & Nightmarish, Subtle & Haunting, and Hammer/AIP Technicolor goodness. A am a total sucker for these types of films!I hovered between "non-linear & nightmarish" and "subtle & haunting" but eventually went with the latter because it fits my style slightly better. I also went for "Hammer/AIP" as those were my earliest loves and well, I couldn't live without my cheese so I chose "bad and unintentionally funny".

Deadly serious with good atmosphere. That's it really. I think a good horror film doesn't need tits and gore, for example: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Night of the Living Dead, The Shining (okay there's a bit of gore and nudity in this one, but none of it is gratuitous or shock-worthy)

Thinking about it more, I find that I enjoy the "gritty and realistic" the least.
I watch those films more out of a loyalty to the genre, but I find that horror with nothing supernatural or fantastic going on usually has little replay value for me, with a very few exceptions [original TCM, mainly.]

These ALL sounded good! I chose "lots of kills and T&A" because that sounds the most like a giallo.
