Posted on Bloody Disgusting (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/8669):

Today Bloody-Disgusting received word that The Butcher Brothers - those crazy dudes behind After Dark and Lionsgate's The Hamiltons - will make their studio feature debut with a remake of April Fool's Day. The Butcher Bros. will also be penning the remake with either Columbia Tristar or Paramount Pictures distributing.

In the film a group of eight college friends gather together at an island mansion belonging to heiress Muffy St. John to celebrate their final year of school. They soon discover that each has a hidden secret from their past which is revealed, and soon after, they turn up dead. Yet, are they really dead? Or is it just part of some very real and cruel April Fool's jokes? The hostess, Muffy, is the only one who apparently knows what's going on. But then again, is it really her doing the killing?

I think this is wonderful news as I would easily count this as a remake that warrants a remake. With the ending that took place in the original film, most horror fans were pretty pissed off. So my advice to The Butcher Brothers... change it up!

Hardly surprising. I don't really care for the original film. A radically different ending would definitely be welcome here.

Worst news ever. And someone tell the guy who posted that info on Bloody that just because he didn't like the movie, why would you give away any secrets to the film. Or maybe he was just upset that the ending fooled him.

Some people I guess don't like originality.

Amen to that. :)

If it's as bad as The Hamiltons was, the remake is in dire trouble.

Maybe we could see a special edition dvd of the original when this hits theaters...

Wait. I just remembered Paramount owns the rights to the original. Nevermind.

I find people tend to really be mixed in their reactions to the first film, but it seems to have grown more popular over time.I saw it when it was new and found it refreshing, others hated it.I saw the Butcher Brothers film THE HAMILTONS at the horrorfest,VERY low budget, but also fairly interesting, they show promise. If they HAVE to remake it(and I'm anti remake),I hope they do change it up considerably, make it their own.For good or bad,I'd rather see somebody try to take a fresh approach rather than just churn out a pitiful rehash.

Ugh. Remake a GOOD slasher plz...

Why would you want them to remake a GOOD slasher? Doesn't that almost defeat the purpose of a remake? Remaking something bad would give them the chance to improve upon where they went wrong with the original. (sadly, this still doesn't happen most of the time.) I'd like them to really STOP remakes, but if they just HAVE to do it, why not remake a BAD slasher? One that probably SHOULD be remade.

If you remake a good slasher, why would you mess with something that's good to begin with? Gives justice to the phrase, "if it's not broke, don't fix it."

I've seen a couple of articles about upcoming remakes that have done the same thing. I hate that.

Man. The original April Fool's Day is a classic. I'm not looking forward to a remake. Although I hope, as was mentioned already, that maybe - just maybe! - an SE of the original will be released as the remake is released.

And I have to laugh a little at people who "feel cheated" by the original's ending...with a title like April Fool's Day, what more could you expect? I think it's a nice change from the countless other slashers that are already out there.

The title "April Fool's Day" is pretty generic... the remake probably won't have anything at all to do with the original.

I'll bet that the cursed scum will destroy the wonderful ending of the original in their, ahem, "reimagining". Here's to hoping that this does as much business as the remakes of "The Fog" or "The Hitcher".

Still, as with all the remake slime, there is also one tiny hope - that the outbreak of this disease will also bring about a cure, namely a special edition of the real film.

DVD coverart and what not. Guess this is another remake to go direct to video. Good riddance.

I just don't get the point of remaking films, just to go straight to video ...

... horrid DVD artwork BTW.

Good Lord THAT BOX ART!!!!! I would mistake it for an advert in TV Guide for "General Hospital" or something. Why are they looking at us like that, by the way...

Doen't this have the taletless bitch who played Laurie in the Halloween remake in it? Also The Hamiltons was easily the worst after dark movie I've seen so far. PASS.

If I'm not mistaken, this comes out tomorrow. Anyone watch this yet? I really liked the first one and am debating on whether or not to pick this up. I don't mind it being remade, as long as they do something different with the ending (no point having the same ending, but a new twist would be welcomed).

Everything about this movie is different except for the ending, although it does have a different twist on it.

It isn't worth a purchase, but a rental won't hurt.

It is severely lacking by not having that "too bad you're crazy" end title song that the 1986 movie did.

I saw a trailer for this movie and it looked awful. Almost as bad as the new Prom Night. I enjoyed the original quite a bit though, so if I see it cheap I might check it out, but I am definitely in no rush.

Glad to hear NOTO that it isn't complete garbage.

Well, just keep in mind that it's more a throwback to I Know What You Did Last Summer than it is April Fool's Day. I didn't love the post-Scream wave of horror, but I didn't hate them either.

You're mileage may vary, but I can't see anyone critically raving about this.

oh gawd, the dvdart! I think the genre has officially shifted from "horror" to "horrible."

Visually it's a good looking movie, but the script is just laughable and the ending was just...bleh. Thankfully it has almost nothing to do with the original film at all. It has more in common with I Know What You Did Last Summer and the like.

I just love how the date "April 1, 2008" appears in the movie.

I would say "What cretin posted this on what site...?", but I'm actually hoping the remaking slime will do just that. The excellent ending made "April Fool's..." stand out well and proud in front of the whole crowd of identical 80s slashers - although an alternate stereotypical ending was shot, but, thankfully, abandoned. The remakers should restore the idiotic cliched ending that was cut, so that their remake is not just bad, but also, unlike the original, instantly forgettable.

Don’t knock down an old lady to get to Blockbuster, but if you have nothing better to do, you could find a great many worse things to watch.

That pretty much sums it up. I simply cannot resist a holiday themed horror movie and netflix got this to me on April Fool's Day and it served its place and I enjoyed it well enough. However, I am not going to go camp out at Best Buy to get my own copy as soon as possible. It was an OK movie to rent but I wouldn't want to live there.

There were brief moments where the movie did threaten to break into real actual cleverness, but it was not to be.

Man, this was so goddamn awful. As a defender of remakes, this is the second of the recent ones that bring cause for concern (the other being Day of the Dead). Right from the start with the stupid chef joke, you know you're in big trouble here. And it has the added bonus of a "made for TV" look too.

Bad - really bad. If you can't find something better to watch than this then you need to get out more.

Was this movie supposed to be taken seriously? The score and some of the performances were just so over-the-top that I was thinking it was a conscious effort to be a so-bad-it's-good movie.

Anyway it's pretty bad if it's meant to be serious. If it was trying to be cheese then it does a decent job, except for the long stretches of boredom...

Ah well pretty damn funny watching bad actors trying to look intelligent/devious/clever.

What doesn't surprise you? The fact that they would make a remake or the remake movie/storyline itself didn't surprise you.

By the way, the remake came out about 2 years ago. And it was not good at all. I'm a huge fan of the original though. At least I still have that.

I spoke to her on StickAm a few months ago. I kinda made fun of her for being in shitty remakes. She was cool about it though. Sweet girl.
