This film has been plagued by reshoots. You can always tell when watching a film that suffers from that because the trailer is 50% shit that's not in the movie... and you run into plot contradictions.
The Stepford Wives
Black Christmas
What else?
Alien 3 - completely different plot that never happen:

Could someone kindly explain to me why Body Snatchers gets remade so often?
Seems like they've been pumping a remake out every fifteen years.

...complete with the little kid...(rolls eyes).
I do love the 3 Body Snatchers films, though. I suppose we are due the Millenium take on the story.

Well, the other remakes of the film over the years weren't exactly bad, so this one might have some inherited promise.

Perfect casting, given the tight-faced creature that now calls itself "Ni-cole Kid-man" is most likely a pod person.

Never liked the original or any of the copies/remakes, I just think its crap.
Don't mind the Faculty which is similar but Invasion of the Body Snatchers never clicked with me.

Nope, and I don't plan on it.

I actually might end up seeing this. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of my favorite stories, and as long as they don't deviate from it too much, I just don't see how they could fuck it up.

I'm waiting for the DVD. It has Kidman - so I'll be watching.

I'll also try to catch it in the theater since I'm a Kidman fan. The trailer for the film actually looked decent.

This movie was god awful. Thank GOD the theater gave me a refund. Actually, I noticed that I wasn't the only one who left the theater early. About 35 minutes in, about 5 people just gawked at the screen and left. I soon followed suite (I thought it would get better but like THE WICKER MAN remake, it was just a waste of celluloid)

I saw this last night and thought it was ok, however I'd rate it last in the 4 Invasion movies (that I know of anyway). I don't understand why mainstream films these days will go the "virus" route. I was quite disappointed that no pods were even in the film.

what the hell?? cinemas give you a refund if you didn't like the movie?! that's the first i've ever heard of them doing that.. i can understand if there's some other fuck up that requires a refund, but just because someone doesn't like the movie?? i've gotta try that next time! :)

In my theater, as long as you are there for less than half the movie, you can get your money back.

I don't see how people found it so BAD...I mean it wasn't GREAT, it's just....it's nothing more than just a remake. Plain and simple. I don't see why people would walk out. It was nowhere near that bad. It's worthwhile, I just didn't like the ending. The only word that comes to mind is "soft". Kidman did a pretty good job, as did many of the other actors and it's very suspenseful in places. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the '78 version. I might be alone on this one but I consider that one to be one of the greatest sci-fi's ever produced. Almost perfect in every respect, and the lack of a musical score is what makes it feel so lifelike.
While the remake is decent, I didn't think it was entirely "bad". Nice to see the Veronica Cartwright cameo, though.

To me, the 1978 version is the very best of all, and I think it ranks pretty highly among the best sci/fi...Definitely one of the best of its era, and I think it holds up extremely well today...
As for Veronica Cartwright, I developed an enormous crush on her after seeing that film...I thought she was great in that.

If that's what the theater's policy is, then I have no problem with it.
However, I never hold a theater responsible for the quality of a movie's content, just in the technical presentation of it. The theater's job is to show the film properly on their equipment in an environment conducive to enjoying it.
While I wouldn't feel right asking for a refund on a film just because it is a stinker, I respect those who do decide to take advantage of said offer, and I have to applaud theaters that will take a bullet for a fault not of their own.

the only time I have asked for a refund is when there is a problem in the crowd. That's happened twice in my life and each time, I got a refund ticket (for another showing of whatever movie I wanted to see). I wouldn't ask for a refund based on content. I don't see the theater being responsible for how shitty a movie may be.

I just got back from this and really enjoyed it. I was worried, but the TV spots got me interested and it actually wasn't a completely different movie than what was shown in the trailer.
Kidman was great. The kid was great as far as child actors go. And Veronica. Oh Veronica--you made it all worth it. A nice new take on the alien parasite too.

Wow Mattster....My exact sentiments. Veronica really DID make it all worth it. :)
REally wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was thinking it was going to be...The very beginning had me worried, in that Kidman looked like some old junkie hag that I actually know, muttering about staying awake, taking lots of pills and downing Mountain Dew like no tomorrow, but the rest of the movie was pretty darn good.

Although nothing can beat the 1978 version, with Nimoy, Sutherland, and Goldblum, I thought this year's remake was enjoyable enough. And, frankly, the "alien virus" angle is more realistic than pod-people anyway, in my opinion. I particularly liked the socio-political undertones (should we really be fighting these "commie" aliens in the first place or joining their utopia?).

This version was not as bad as I would have expected although I'm still partial to the 56 and 78 versions, complete with pods, etc. The 56 is on my top five 'time-adjusted' sci-fi flicks meaning that given the technology then extant it to me was awesomely creative.

I've seen all of the other Body Snatchers movies and would put this at the bottom of the list. It is by far the worst movie I've seen all year and yet another unnecessary Hollywood remake. It's actually ironic that a series that's known for having good examples of remakes would continue with such a stinker.

I thought that it would be a lot better than it was. The TV spots looked quite promissing and I liked the virus angle as opposed to the pods. However, the movie just kept getting worse as it went along and I really didn't like the ending.... totally forgettable.

I have now seen it, and a good time was had by all. :)
If you hate Kidman then stay well away, but I happen to think she's beautiful and could watch her in a sack of apples. :D
The updates on the story are minor - we live in an age of "WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!" and of course the AIDS virus spreading unseen through our societies. It was inevitable these influences would seep into the new film, and indeed they do. There are people in this thread asking why films have to concentrate on viruses.... erm... maybe go read a newspaper?
I personally believe far too many people hold the 70's film in reverance, suggesting it's somehow perfect. As a remake, it's good, but you really still have to go all the way back to the first film to get the best version. Still, another update is warranted, and in the end it's enough of a thrill-ride to keep me interested.
No pods though. Not really a spoiler. Instead we have projectile vomiting. Perhaps this reflects Hollywoods love of Bulimia. :D
