A barebones NTSC edition of Braindead would suit me fine. My least favorite of Jackson's filmography, but i do watch it from time to time.

There's an uncut version available in either Spain or Germany. :(

I have seen the (I bet edited) VHS version of the movie and I loved the oddball mix of horror / gore / humor. I think it is time for an updated version. More resource materials for extras would be nice too.

Hello,
The Unrated Region 1 DVD was released on September 8, 1998:
Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo)
Available subtitles: English, Spanish, French
• Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen
• Theatrical trailer(s)
• Widescreen anamorphic format
Besided My NOTLD 90 DVD, i have watched DEAD ALIVE more than any other movie i own. Very funny, and very fun to watch. It never gets old. Get it -- you can find it anywhere for like $19.00. The transfer to DVD is crisp, and looks great!
Let me know what you think,
Thanks,
Matt

KillerQ, the DVD you own is cut. Soz dude.
I've got the uncut vhs release in the UK, and I also own the R1 DVD.
I've seen the uk release enough times, that when I watched the R1 DVD for the first time, I noticed cuts straight away.
They've even cut out a small scene in the church where Lionel's Uncle tries it on with (Paquela?) She spouts off something nasty in Spanish, and he responds with "oooh fiery".
It may only be by a few frames snipped here and there, but I found it to be very very noticeable.

I was surfin' the net lookin for the Dead Alive info on the history of the release when your email message popped up. Thanks for the info dude. That's what I was lookin' for. Maybe a company can throw some meat on this movie's bones!

Hello...
I know about that version youre talking about... I was refering to the "unrated" DVD as compared to the "Rated R" VHS version.
I can't wait to the the "unrated" version with the extra scenes. I hear that its about 7 minutes of extra stuff -- mostly character building dialogue.....
Thanks,
Matt

It's damned annoying because it has the word 'unrated' in very small letters in the bottom left of the cover. Because of the small case, I was hoping it was uncut, but sadly not. Maybe in about 2-3 years, after PJ has finished doing The Trilogy, he may get involved in doing a nice job on his DeadAlive.
I read in the linear notes or a review somewhere, on his DVD release of Bad Taste, that he wanted to do a commentry on Bad Taste, but had no time to do it. Finger's crossed he does one eventually for Brain Dead / Dead Alive too.:)

That would be cool for a commentary. I would like to hear his take on the various scenes during the movie. He probably has some bizarre stories off the set too.

I would love to have it in a tin and a little rat monkey key chain thrown in also.
