At work, I am constantly surrounded by the cheapie movie packs usually put out by Brentwood. I saw a couple with interesting titles but wanted to start this thread... What are YOUR favorite packs? I'd like to pick some up and they're relatively cheap, but I'd like guidance. :D

I'm a big fan of those 50 movie sets. Quality is crap but loads of good titles buried away in there.

Great for when you get a nasty cold and have to spend the week in bed!

Can anyone vouch for the quality of the following?

Shriek Show is kinda sucky, yes? If so, are these at least uncut movies? Widescreen?

I can't find any reviews yet, consarnit!

Is there a site/list with all the Shriek Show triple feature releases? I've never heard of this one and would like to order whichever ones I'm missing.

Well, you can go to the Media Blasters (http://www.media-blasters.com/) site and see Shriek Show's current offerings, but they really don't tell you much beyond that.

Some of the titles listed:

Wicked Women (Flesh for the Beast / Werewolf Woman / Nightmares Come at Night) (1977) (http://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Women-Flesh-Werewolf-Nightmares/dp/B000JBXP3E/ref=sr_1_2/103-7800722-4991058?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1188908743&sr=1-2)

Demons Triple Feature: The Other Hell/Demons III: The Ogre/Black Demons (http://www.amazon.com/Demons-Triple-Feature-Other-Black/dp/B000IMVE50/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-7800722-4991058?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1188908861&sr=1-2)

Jungle Girls Pack (Golden Temple Amazons / Amazonia / Diamonds of Kilimandjaro) (http://www.amazon.com/Jungle-Amazons-Amazonia-Diamonds-Kilimandjaro/dp/B000HC2LP8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-7800722-4991058?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1188908994&sr=1-2) <---- Nice user review!

They usually take the single disc releases and just throw them in a cardboard cover with the other two titles. I believe all three are widescreen. I have one on order at work. So far I've got the Post Apocalyptic Set, the Zombie set, the Evil Animals set and the Jungle set.

This one's worth getting for The Bronx Executioner and Hands Of Steel alone. Very good cheese. The other two movies are The New Barbarians which is already available from Shriek Show and Assassin - a turd of a movie. Not even the extended R-Rated Home Video version they included was watchable.

http://cover6.cduniverse.com/MuzeVideoArt/13/242113.jpg

Includes How Awful About Allan which is simply brilliant. The Black Room is kinda weird but not a bad movie, co-starring Linnea Quigley. The Giant Spider Invasion is fun but there's a better DVD of this movie out there. Invasion From Inner Earth is borderline crap/semi interesting.

Ahhh cool! I figured there might be a catch, as the single titles are more by themselves than each triple feature set! The triple features are super cheap at Deep Discount (http://www.deepdiscount.com/viewproduct.htm?productId=14604708)!

Thanks for the info! :)

I love those Shriekshow sets. I actually compared them to the single releases at the local HMV and I was getting the 3 movies in the pack for less than one of the movies cost as a stand alone. Maybe not all the sets work out as good as that but it's still a pretty sweet deal for movies I wanted anyway.

I like the Media Blasters 3 packs. And as far as dual sided discs go, you can't beat Anchor Bay's Drive-In classics.

I was at another Best Buy a couple weeks ago, and they had a horror section like the one here used to, i.e. sweet! Anyway they had the Evil Animals box which I grabbed to get Day of the Animals for about the cost of ordering it solo.
I had Grizzly already from ordering it when it first came out, and was kinda surprised an identical 2 disc SE was in the box. Soon to be part of a new trade list coming to a trade forum near you.
Anyway, yeah the MB boxsets are a great deal. Get if you can (you can always order online).

Hmmm, so they had the 2 discs from the Grizzly SE packaged in with the Evil Animals Triple Feature?!

If so, was that just a fluke on that one set you picked up? The set is listed as having only three discs at Amazon. Weird!

Am I just misreading this altogether?

My Evil Animals set also had the 2-disc Grizzly. As stated before, all of the DVDs packaged together in the sets are the same as the identical releases. I've never had an issue where a DVD in the set is different than the standalone and I've had a couple of double-up titles.

the shriek show sets are always worth the money, even if a movie or two stinks. These sets are usually the same price as a single release. I've bought many titles this way.

My favorite brentwood sets are "Horror Rises from the Grave', "Blood bath" and "Roots of Evil." However, I haven't bought a Brentwood pack in a long time, ever since they started packing those horrible Sub Rosa films.

Another favorite of mine is a 50 pack of SCI-FI movies from Mill Creek. Quality is vhs, if not lower, but for $20, there was enough good stuff to warrant the purchase.

However, stay AWAY from that Grindhouse Experience set by VideoAsia. I'm still pissed about spending $20 on that.

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess it just seems like too good a deal: it's in my nature to always look for the "catch", you know? :p

I'll quit fighting it and start WishListing. :D

My personal favorites purchased over the last 2-3 years:

Camp Classics:
http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/690831h.jpg

Walking Dead (now discontinued I hear):
http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/697209h.jpg

Devil Made Me Do it (also discontinued):
http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/690828h.jpg

Man's Worst Friend (ditto):
http://images2.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/697078h.jpg

Don't regret these purchases for a second...especially paying less than $20 for 6 (usually) quality DVDs.

The Shriek Show 3-packs are great & highly recommended too...namely:

I have this set. It's pretty awesome! And only $6! It's got some great flicks such as Pieces, Memorial Valley Massacre, It Happened At Night Inn, Silent Night Bloody Night, Night of Bloody Horror, and Horror Rises from the Tomb.

http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6947930

And the above post has some awesome sets (although not necessarily 'budget' sets, they are still pretty f'in cheap). I have the Camp Classics and Walking Dead sets, and both the Zombie ones.

quality is extremely piss poor. imagine using 4th or 5th generation VHS tapes. that's what they look like, some even worse. i can understand beat up prints, but fuck, they didn't even use prints (well, on a title or two it appears they used 16mm, but i'm not really sure).

DrHerbertWest

Reminds me of the quality on those Tales Of Voodoo sets. Some of them are plain unwatchable, literally, as they skip around and have constant visual glitches. I'll wait on that set you mentioned... Haha.

More triple features are coming.

Fangoria:

Media Blasters has combined a bunch of its Shriek Show titles into a pair of collections: BLOODY SCHOOL GIRLS, arriving Nov. 20, contains Robert Deubel’s GIRLS NITE OUT, Tom McLoughlin’s ONE DARK NIGHT and Roberta Findlay’s BLOOD SISTERS, while MIDNIGHT MOVIES II showcases Ray Dennis Steckler’s BODY FEVER, LAS VEGAS SERIAL KILLER, HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER and BLOOD SHACK. Each retails for $19.95.

I have this on order solely for MFDR (because I get the sets cheaper than the individual movies most of the time). I don't know if I'll like the other two.

I picked up the Cannibal Lunchbox for myself for Xmas since Warlock Moon is the last of the Joe Bob Briggs commentary discs I needed. (Anybody know why he quit doing them?) The Blood Feast 2 is the R rated so I am taking it to work to sell today...no matter, I already have the unrated.
As for mega-sets, I am 15 movies in to a 100 DTV set called Bloody Nightmares. Most of these are Brain Damage film movies. There have been some decent movies in there (as well as one or two I tried to swallow my tongue during to stop the pain like Barely Legal Lesbian Vampires).
Only drawback is there is a lot of pixalization and a few freeze for a second here and there. But, then again, you get what you pay for.

Do any of these have decent a/v quality? I don't mean dvd quality, but maybe equivalent to a good vhs copy. I think these would be pretty cool, but the few times I've ventured into the budget dvd world the quality of the films have been so shitty I could barely watch them.

Mortis

It depends on which sets you're referring to. The ones with 25+ movies are usually shit quality, but the Shriek Show releases are regular DVD releases bundled together.

Crypt of Terror: Horror from South of the Border Volume 2
Volume 1 was released recently with some decent Mexican films. Now comes Volume 2 from Deimos Entertainment, which will be released on March 4, 2008.

Movies included:

1. Night of the Bloody Apes (1969)
2. Curse of the Doll People (1961)
3. Spiritism (1962)
4. Masterworks of Terror (1960)
5. Wrestling Women vs. The Aztec Mummy (1964)
6. Doctor of Doom (1962)
7. New Invisble Man (1958)

I don't care for volume 2 at all. I already have the cemetary/ grave robbers films. I still got the box set for the other missing films. Feeling is mutual volume 2 is a no go well at least for me.

BTW

All of the bad words on DON'T PANIC are edited out of the spanish version wtf? The gore is intact this movie is like a poor mans nightmare on elm street. I didn't check the English version yet sense the picture quality is not that great.

BTW I found these 2 DVD covers. I take it they canceled these single release DVD's?
