I did a search, got nothing for this one - which surprised me.

Anyway, watched this last night - and you know, I really loved it.

Films set in such locales are always going to be compared by genre fans with Carpenter's The Thing. Let me say that this film proves that while Carpenter had a good handle on the filom he wanted to make, he didn't make the most of the environment. This film makes better use of it (which isn't to say it's a better film).

I think some will stick their noses up at the environmentalist agenda here, but that woould be a shame. It has a couple wonderful scares, but more importantly the landscape is simply stunning.

And hey, you get Perlman too! Won't ruin the shocks - but they worked for me, and I was delighted (even if the FX looked a bit 1990).

Loved it, and had a great time.

I've been looking forward to it. Larry Fessenden has yet to disappoint me, and I find his vision to be perhaps the most original in horror. Perlman is certainly a plus, and the cast includes two Friday Night Lights alumni, so kudos for that.

It receives a limited release in a few weeks. I read that it's out on DVD elsewhere, though I believe it's going to be On Demand. If that's the case, I'll just watch it that way ala Day Night Day Night and Black Sheep, while waiting for the eventual R1.

Yeah - I have the R2 DVD, so it went straight to disc over here.

Just got around to finally watching this. Not a bad flick at all. I agree that producers really made great use of the frozen landscapes to create a spooky environment. I'm typically not one for ecological thrillers, but I'm glad I checked this out. It's a movie that really makes you think as to what's going on.

Just saw the film. Surprised not too many talking about it here on this board. Plenty to discuss in terms of what the movie was about. The ending etc...

What a piece of garbage. Just too talky and not enough going on. I think I get the message, but really who cares? It is one film that I'm sorry I wasted my time on. Fortunately I only paid $3 for a used copy. I thought there would be a few threads about this film. I really think this is going to be a love/hate film.

This review on IMDB really nailed it.

If you think it's going to be a love/hate film. Then there must be a reason why you think some will love it.

Yeah. Probably because most of the other people in this thread loved/liked it?

This sounds interesting. I just saw this for sale a our local Wal-Mart, but wasn't familiar with the film. This obviously is a " message " film, but I kind of enjoy some of the horror/suspense films that make one think for a change.

I just think that it wasn't one that you look at and say it was okay. I feel it is just one that you are really going to like or really going to dislike. Make sense?

I liked this film quite a bit. And I really like Fessenden a lot and do think he's one of the most original genre directors out there. Each of the films of his that I have seen have been incredibly interesting, even if not completely successful.

The mood and tension were excellent. And possibly even better handled than in "The Thing."

However, was anyone else dissappointed that

it was just Wendigo at the end? I was really expecting something a bit more apocalyptic.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that! Actually, I rented this about 6 months ago and don't really remember anything about it. I didn't hate it but I sure didn't love it. I can't even remember if I liked it or just wanted it to end.

Checked this out for the second time and like it even more now. Great sense of isolation, wonderful chromatography, strong acting, good atmosphere, strong sense of dread and very original. Other then it's strong political themes, I'm scratching my head on how anyone can't at least take something positive away from this film. It has allot going for it.

By far the best of Fessenden's films. I agree in terms with discussions on the ending, could have been something more. But in keeping with the other films themes it makes sense.

Just got finished watching this, and I really enjoyed it. Great cinematography and the isolation themes worked very well. Fressenden's most mature work yet.
