Got that Fright Flick list ready to share? Any scary movie recommendations?
Myself gonna reserve October for horror (and old school sci-fi) only. I will also try to squeeze in a few vintage chillers paired as double features.
My favorite month of the year - this October is going to be awesome!
Oh, I am definitely going to watch the entire Friday the 13th series (or at least the Paramount films, think I can do without the New Line segments).
I'm ashamed to say it, but I've only seen the first two films and then Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason. I've got a copy of the big box set on one of my wishlists, so now I've just got to make an order! :)
Apart from that, I have no clue. I'm in the mood for buying, though, so I'll check out what you guys are recommending. Plus, didn't I hear someone say that October was going to be a big review-month for the Horrordvds critcis? ;)

I am working on my yearly October horror-a-thon list right now, but as usual, it is taking me forever to make my choices. The only ones for sure are Halloween (duh), The Uninvited (thank you Turner Classic Movies), House of 1000 Corpses, Night of the Demons, and Scarecrows (if I can keep my hands off the dvd until then). There's SO many great horror dvds coming out it is hard to pare those choices down.
Here's hoping we all get to see Trick 'r Treat in theaters in October too.
Basically any Halloween, except H20 and Ressurrection, any movie slasher that takes place at a summer camp, oh and the Dead films. I've grown accustomed to certain flicks during certain seasons, and those seem to work best for me.

Here's some I may watch:
Halloween (original) I cant' believe I just had to clarify that. Unbeilvable.
Anyway...
Night of the Demons
Aliens
Nightmare on Elm Street
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Return of the Living Dead
Fright Night
Sleepy Hollow
Night of the Living Dead
Suspiria
Simpsons - Treehouse specials
[shameless plug]I'll be watching The Victim at the San Diego Asian Film Festival on October 13[/shameless plug]
Adding some films to my list:
Bug - I literally cannot wait to see this film! I know so little about it and yet it sound soooo gooood!
Alligator
Death Proof
Demons (the rerelease)
Lizard in a Woman's Skin (Remastered)
Those will all be first-time views, but I'm also probably going to pick up Cujo: 25th Anniversary. Then I've recently bought Inland Empire and the Black Christmas remake, so I'll probably watch them too.
And I'll probably watch some of them before October ... I'm too anxious to start!

These are always some of my favorite threads to read. It's cool hearing everyone's different Halloween viewings! This year I'm going to try my best to watch as many older films that I've never seen before, but of course I'll make time for some staples of modern horror as well....Suspiria is the 1st that comes to mind. I ALWAYS watch that in October...

Hopefully,
From Beyond
The Burning
Scarecrows
Alligator
Night Of The Demons 2
Cujo
Misery
Poltergeist
Return Of The Living Dead
House On Haunted Hill(1958)
John Carpenter's The Thing

What the hell, I think I'll watch the Halloween series this year. It's been ages since I've seen most of them--in fact, I think the last time I saw 4 was in the theater! Maybe now that I'm not 8 anymore I can truly appreciate it.

I don't create lists but I stick to horror movies, at least at home. If we go to the theater in October, I can make no guarantees. Generally I'll watch a series (Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, etc.) or pick out some of my genre favorites.

Doesn't look like anyone mentioned Texas Chainsaw Massacre yet! The original that is. I'll be watching it, along with Suspiria.

Believe it or not, I haven't even thought about it!
Probably the usual.
The thing is, I watch horror movies the year round so I don't forsee me doing anything out of the ordinary for the holiday. Maybe I should step outside the box and watch nothing but romance comedies?

Catching up on my Godzilla lately, but just found out there's only going to be 7 of the Toho Master Collection from Classic Media.
I want a full set of original versions damnit!:fuck: I guess 7 is better than none which I've lived my without.:)

Only 7? Damn, that sucks dude. I totally empathize. Hopefully what's out now is going to remain in print for a while. I only have the first two and it'll probably remain that way until I get the rotting hole on the outside of my house repaired and paid for. :(

Yeah, only 7 and 5 are already out (4 on my shelf, 5th to be ordered soon), although the website said they are open to trying to get the rights to more if they become available and are reasonable, which is a long-shot as Sony owns the bulk of the US rights.
If you or anyone know of any other companies releasing original versions with English subs let me know, as I've loved the first 2 (Gojira and Godzilla Raids Aagin) even more than the US versions I grew up (it's also great to have the US versions to compare too). I recall seeing some great looking Japan discs for King Kong V Godzilla and a few others, but without English subs.:(

I have Sony/Columbia Tri-Star's editions of Godzilla Vs Hedorah, Godzilla Vs Gigan and Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla and while they're weak on extras all of them have original Japanese language with subtitles and look VERY good.

I always make sure to watch Trick Or Treat at least three times every October. One of my favorites and a great Halloween themed film.

Night of the Living Dead for sure, not sure what else yet. I ordered some movies from Deep Discount so I might watch those...Hellraiser, Black Sabbath and "Incident On and Off a Mountain Road." Those will have to be spread out around that week, though--the semester will be in full swing by that point, so I won't be able to have as big of a blowout on the day itself.
I saw Texas Chain Saw Massacre not too long ago so I might skip that one.

I've started working on a list of things to watch starting October 1st. Nothing but Horror-esque movies for the entire month. See if I can do better than last year. At least I don't have to work Halloween night this year.
Definitely be watching the complete Halloween and Friday The 13th series plus all 3 Ginger Snaps, My Bloody Valentine, An American Werewolf In London, and at midnight on October 1st I'll be watching Silver Bullet.

Amen!

Goodness, I hope so.
I'm actually planning on having a huge month-long marathon of Horror. So I'll have movies playing even when I'm cleaning the apartment, cooking food, feeding pets, maybe even when I'm sleeping.
My basic plan is to start from the 1st with more crappy titles and move up to the better films from the 21st to the 31st and from the 28th to the 31st will be a sort of ultimate horror 4 day thing. I haven't done anything like this for years.
From the 28th to the 31st, I plan to see (all originals, naturally) : Black Christmas, Creepshow, The Fog, Child's Play, Friday the 13th part 3, Cronenberg's The Fly, Ginger Snaps, Candyman, Alien, Dawn of the Dead, Silence of the Lambs, Rosemary's Baby, Dead Alive, An American Werewolf in London, Carrie, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, The Exorcist, Scream, Suspiria, Phantasm, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, The Evil Dead.
I don't have a list and I usually never do because I like to watch on spur of the moment, but I'm hoping the usual crew can get together and we'll figure out something then. I should probably give my movie contribution a little thought so I'll be prepared. :D

Same with me. I'm also hoping to add more Asian Horror and Sci-Fi Horror this year too. Maybe throw some Anime in the mix as well.

Wow! Nice list and good luck with that. Sounds like it would be 4 days of pure sweetness.
I am not entirely sure what i'll watch as i too watch horror movies all year round, although I'll def. step it up for the month of October. i guess I'll just have to see what i'm in the mood for, although I'm sure the Halloween and Friday the 13th movies will be in there, as will Suspiria, and some of the newer releases that i want to pick up (The Burning, Tales from the Crypt, From beyond, ect.). October is such a fun month, I love it! Oh, and the Roseanne, Home Improvement and Simpson Halloween Specials are must watches as well.

Its abit early yet I will probably decide on the night, might just watch Halloween to get the bad taste of Rob Zmbies version out of my mouth.
I'll be having a few friends over on the Friday prior to Halloween and I'm trying to decide what to show. We meet up each month to watch "thought-provoking" films and I'm trying to narrow down what film would be best to watch. A couple of people don't like gore so I'm trying to stick with films that are more atmospheric/spooky. I don't think a foreign film would go over well so perhaps I'll show an older film or a haunted house flick. A few that I'm thinking about are:
The Haunting (1963 of course)
The Legend of Hell House
Scarecrows (a bit Halloween-ish)
Other suggestions are must welcome :)

I might be going out of town October 22-29th so I'll be back right before Halloween, thank goodness. It'll be business related and I get paid a little extra so it could be cool. Last time I went was about a year ago and I posted a thread asking for people's opinions on "weird" movies like Tenebre, The Burning & Scarecrows that I found at a closing mom & pop store... Goes to show how much a year can do!
Because I created a monster with that infernal October Horror Movie Challenge (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=510773) ...I'll be losing sleep while watching an unhealthy dose of Turner Classic Movies, Netflix arrivals, selections from my own collection, pre-orders/recent arrivals (primarily the 9/11 releases). Just a sampling:
Suspiria
Don't Go Near the Park
Kaidan
The Blind Dead films
28 Weeks Later
From Beyond
Mad Monster Party?
Night of the Comet
The Burning
Halloween
And plenty more where that came from
...essentially squeezing in whatever my schedule dictates. Too goddamn much.
Spitfire
09-20-2007, 01:13 AM
Halloween 1 and 2.
Friday the 13th: Series
Jeepers Creepers
Tenebre
Inferno
A couple of giallos.
And something at the movies, in the horror genre.

Thanks. The biggest challenge is to stay awake. But that averages out to about 6 movies per day. Shouldn't be too hard.
October is such a fun month, I love it! Oh, and the Roseanne, Home Improvement and Simpson Halloween Specials are must watches as well.
Oh I forgot about those. Yeah, I'll be watching The Simpsons Halloween Specials (Treehouse of Horror) parts 1 through 7. And the 8 Roseanne Halloween episodes. As well as Halloween-ish episodes of Daria, Will & Grace, The Nanny, Animaniacs, The Jeffersons (anything I have on DVD for these shows), Garfield's Halloween Adventure, The Worst Witch, and any other show I can find.

That's on my list as well for the month. But it will be in the first week. I'm planning my month to start with bad movies and then watch better movies toward the end. 1-10 will be the worst, 11-20 will be in the middle, 21-31 will be the best.
