Agreed with Maybrick's "overtime" suggestion, although some regulars have yet to chime in. I say we give it til Tuesday or so to get everyone's votes in and see where we are. EDIT: I think I misread maybrick's post. By "overtime," I thought he meant to give posters the option of voting more than once.

Personally, I'd like to see The Monster Squad in there, as it is a rare moment where supernatural classics are handled with respect in a contemporary setting and not played entirely for laughs (except for The Mummy of course).

I would agree to that but what if someone doesn't like say The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) so they voted it off. I guess we can make it so the film with the most "off the Island" votes gets the boot. Let's wait until we get to 100 before we go there though.

I don't doubt that it's a good film, I just question whether it's an honest choice, especially when it's only #39 on the list and you compare it to the responses made afterward and all the classics that have yet to be named. It's only my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but it smacks to me of being an answer that's trying to be cool by picking a film few people have heard of (much less seen).

Possibly once we get to 100, we can then have it so each person votes two films off the list and also two films on to the list, that aren't already on. Then maybe after 24 hours the two films with the most "voted off" votes get booted and the two films with the most "voted on" votes get added. We could even continue that each day for like a month, with a goal of having as close to a "official" list as possible.

Also any films booted off can be voted on again if they get enough votes to do so. This may guard against "love it or hate it" films being permanently booted because of a small group of "haters"

Um. Ginger Snaps 2, which I think should be on the list, just closer to the very bottom, like the 90s, was released theatrically in Canada. It's a Canadian independent film, and therefore, went straight-to-video in the States.

I cannot even remember the last time any Canadian indie film, or any mainstream Canadian film (outside of the Hollywood films shot here) for that matter, ever screening theatrically in the States. But they definately get screen time here.

So it's not the fact that it's straight-to-video that makes it a bad movie, it's just that the US does not seem to want to theatrically distribute any 100% Canadian films, and I do not know why....

And I think The Monster Squad should be added to the list.

They SHOULD get a regular theatrical run, yes. If the movie industry wasn't run by idiots, then maybe all the good movies ever made would get released into theatres. But they don't give a damn about quality of movies, just how much money they can make. The Fog remake was in theatres does that make it a classic film? Every week they release crap movies. Every year there are movies that are great movies that don't get theatrical releases because some exec thinks that the general populace won't "get it" or it doesn't have Tom Welling in it.

Sure Ginger Snaps 2 was DTV. What does that really mean? It means someone made a decision not to put it into theatres. Not movie fans but studio execs made that decision. Ravenous was barely in theatres. The ad campaign for it was retarded and didn't really represent the actual film. No one went to see it. Maybe it would've done better with a better ad campaign, maybe not. Doesn't matter. I think it belongs up there as a classic.

All I'm saying at this point is that theatrical run or amount of money made should have absolutely nothing to do with which movies are considered to be classics. If you don't think they belong on the list because you just don't feel they were good enough movies, then that's fine.

UM....ginger snaps 2 was released to just over 50 screens in canada...hardly a success

and there was plenty of canadian horror prodctions that had state and worldwide...theatrical runs

If I had to "only" pick two, I myself would probably replace Prince of Darkness with Legend of Hell House, but I definitely feel that both movies deserve to be on the top 100. I simply chose the first two movies off the top of my head (Phantasm and POD) that I could watch anytime, anywhere and that weren't already voted for. Rationally, I ultimately wouldn't put it in the Top 50, but probably in the top 75.

Other than POD I agree with Ash over what doesn't deserve to make the list, plus I'd add:

it's a more sound production than 2000 maniacs, as it was made 6 years later....it's hard to explain, but it was the first horror film to get an offical X-rating based on violence alone............, tame by todays standards but it's good fun,.... i think u'll like it if u go into it with an open mind.....and take into account it's a low budget cult film..:)
