View Full Version : Child's Play SE coming out January/February 2008

According to an interview (http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=1666) with producer David Kirschner, MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release a 20th Anniversary edition of Child's Play in either January or February of next year. He says that he and Mancini just did a commentary with the stars of the film (including Alex Vincent), but there are no other words on extras.
Of course, it comes on the heels of Kirschner and original writer Dan Mancini tossing around ideas for a remake of Child's Play, so the interview is a double-edged sword of sorts.

It's about time. I have been waiting for a widescreen re-release of this film. I am assuming it will be WS. Fox taking over distribution of MGM is the best thing to happen in recent years. The Dollars films got re-released, the Midnight Movies line is back, Pumpkinhead is getting re-released next year, and now Child's Play.

Judging by Fox's previous MGM horror releases, Child's Play will definitely be in widescreen. Or it will be a flipper disc with both open-matte and anamorphic widescreen versions.

This is great fucking news. I'd been holding off on buying this title until a widescreen SE was released. Looks like the wait is almost over!

I hope they do, seeing how it's the original poster and shit.
I used that for my custom disc of the MonstersHD version even though I couldn't find a nice huge version. It's about time this movie got a SE. Always bad when 4th and 5th sequels get SE's, and the original gets FS bareness.

When I was at Monstermania this year, they announced that the footage they shot for the Child's Play reunion would be on this DVD. This is the second movie in less than a year with footage from MM, so thats pretty cool too.
This is fucking awesome news. Child's Play was the one series that I haven't bought a single title of on DVD. This will finally make me break down.

I like that original poster a lot -- it reminds me of Rosemary's Baby and makes the film look classier than it really is -- but they probably won't use it; Chucky's face isn't plastered all over it.
On the other hand, that tagline ("Something's moved in with the Barclay family, and so has terror.") is awful.

Nope, it's owned by MGM so it'll be out on Blu-ray if anything. I doubt it, but it is a slow month so perhaps.

It's about time! A commentary track would be most welcome. Until then, I'm happy with the HD widescreen version. :)

I'll buy this! I've been holding out because I'd hoped this would happen. I heard the original elements were destroyed by accident????? Anyone remember? I read it here some years ago if I recall.

It will be interesting to see if there will be an HD version.
The HD widescreen version shown on Dish PPV (MPEG 4) looks very nice. There's some scenes with heavy grain but overall a nice transfer. It's much better than the Showtime HD (MPEG 2) version with the poor compression problems.

I knew there was a reason why I sold my other copy several months ago. I am totally stoked for this and can't wait to hear the specs.

I have so many fond memories of this film, it'll be nice to finally own it. "This is the end, friend."
This has aired a lot on HD networks, so hopefully it'll be a good HD2DVD job instead of using an old 90s master again.

The odds of this poster being used as the cover are a billion to one shot. I just don't see this poster being used. If someone here should make a custome dvd cover with it that would rock!!!

I made one, but it isn't nearly as sharp and clear as I'd like it to be. I just used the back of existing dvd but edited the screen format box to say 16:9 WS, then put this logo on the spine center, with the closeup of chucky from existing cover (think it was on spine as well) on top of spine. Black background for spine, MGM logo on bottom and there it is.
Here's the best quality I could find of the poster, cleaned up to remove MG logo. If anyone can find a better version of this poster, send me a link or a scan and I'll hook a new cover up and share it. I'd share mine now but it's a Nero file and I can't get the image out easily. If you have Nero pm me and send ya the cover design file.

Good, I can replace my craptastic R4 version. Granted, it was in Widescreen, but the case falsely states 16:9 in which it is definitely not. This was released back in the heyday where MGM was falsely advertising every disc as Anamorphic when they were not. Thank God FOX has control. Now, how 'bout a 16:9 version of After Midnight????
