Well, it was another year, and there was a ton of new stuff that came out. The indie labels had a tough time, but luckily Hollywood picked up the slack. To make the poll easier, I'll list my top ten and you can pick your favorite from that list, but feel free to post your actual pick (if it differs) in this thread. Here's to 2008!

Great year for horror gems, but none was as anticipated by me as The Monster Squad. Far too long overdue, but the DVD delivered a great transfer and even better extras--not to mention a film that holds up very well.

I am so happy to be able to turn on The Monster Squad whenever I want.

Twin Peaks: The Complete Series. About time, but glad I waited for this!

Without a doubt The Monster Squad. Not only is it a great movie, it's one of the best DVDs ever!

I'd say Twin Peaks, only I haven't bought it yet. I came close last week when I had a gift card, but instead I opted for Star Trek-TOS Season 1 which was $20 cheaper and which I've wanted for forever.

2007 hasn't been a big year in horror DVDs for me. I don't own any of the ones listed in the poll save for 2/3rds of the Amicus Collection (which is merely a box set of titles Dark Sky released last year) The ones in my collection that I appreciate the most are the new THE SHINING special edition and BCI Eclipse's Spanish horror collection: NIGHT OF THE SORCERORS, NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF, etc.

Being able to watch Deadly Friend at a whim is great, there is alot of fun with that film.

Honestly I can't pick. So it's a 5-way tie between Twin Peaks, The Monster Squad, Phantasm, The Bava Sets, and From Beyond.

I voted for the Amicus Collection because, even though the movies came out last year separately, I finally got the set and haven't regretted it in the least. Three awesome movies for such a good price.

Other DVDs that I bought and really liked on this list are:
Doom Asylum
Phantasm
The Monster Squad
From Beyond
The Mario Bava Box

I also got...
Doom Asylum
From Beyond
The Burning
Phantasm
Monster Squad

would be amazing if the big companies had 1% as much passion as Code Red and Severin.

This wasn't a big year in horror for me. I bought the least amount of horror DVDs in 2007 since getting into it back in 2001/02. Maybe 2008 will be better. I don't own any of the discs on that list, although I wouldn't mind having the Bava boxed sets.

Best horror DVD of '07: The Monster Squad. Let's hope that Creeps will get similar treatment in the future!
Runner-up: Creepshow SE (R2)

Best DVD of '07: Blade Runner. I'm only on disc 3, but this mammoth release has surpassed my expectations. It was worth the long wait!
Runner-up: A Clockwork Orange SE

From that list, I voted for Moster Squad. My vote for a DVD not from the list? The Criterion "Robinson Crusoe On Mars"

From Beyond for me has to be one of the best releases period. I have been waiting years for a uncut release. MGM really did an amazing job by getting the cut footage back into the movie and the added scenes are completley unnoticable, the image looks almost hd. The extras are amazing as well and for the price, truly an A+ release.

I would have said Monster Squad but jeez that cover. It was trying to copy Tomb Raider or National Treasure or something. I still bought it though! So I voted Cujo for the obvious reasons.

Where's the OTHER option?

I'm really happy with Criterions Monsters and Madmen, that takes a hell of a lot of beating.

Nothing to do with Dee Wallace, right? :)

Bava box for me. Great value, some real nice gems that I haven't seen before, and really great to get a better copy of Bay Of Blood.

For 2nd place, I'd pick From Beyond.

I couldn't vote for TWIN PEAKS, just because I think that the Artisan season 1 blows this release away. Commentaries, DTS, and much more appropriately cool packaging. I know the pilot wasn't included, but I got it from Korea. Overall, I felt the new set was great to have everything in one, but I think the seperate seasons are necessary for the TP completist. Hell, I even kept the laserdiscs because that the only way to get the "previously on" buffers for S2.

From the list I have to go with Stendhal. It's the only one I was interested in. I absolutely don't understand the enthusiasm for Monster Squad. One of the weaker '80s films, IMHO.

Twin Peaks: The Complete Series one of my favorite shows ever.
