Actually looks pretty cool. Hopefully the film doesn't have too much CGI.

The movie looks like an R-rated male version of the Buffy episode "Bad Eggs" crossed with Slither.

Not that concept is a bad idea, but...

Looks like a movie that is trying to be a cult classic, as opposed to a movie that becomes one. The latter is always better.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago, pretty good but a bit oddly paced. It takes quite a while to get to any monster slaying, but from what I read this is supposed to just be kind of an origin story to set up the character for future monster slaying adventures so I guess it's a little more excusable.

I did like the Jack Brooks character (thanks to the actor who played him) and Robert Englund was actually quite hilarious. I really didn't like the main monster in the movie, way too silly for me, but apart from that I enjoyed it a pretty good amount.

I understand this is supposed to be released Oct 7th, and that Best Buy has a two disc exclusive, just like they had with the release of the Dead Pit. I seen the trailers and I am really looking forward to buying/seeing this flick. It just looks fun and gory!!

It looks like they're trying to create the next Ash. And I agree with the above statement about cult films. I'll check it out, though.

Best Buy also lists one for $24.99 the $8.99 one has [CC] in the title. Anyone know the difference between the two?

i called best buy and gave them the sku number to see if they will carry the 8.99 one they said they have 4 copies i am pretty sure the 8.99 CC one is the exclusive as best buy stores aren't carrying the 24.99 as store availability says not available

We watched this a couple of weeks ago. It was really rather enjoyable! It did seem as if they were trying to create a cult figure, and they may fail. But wouldn't be bad if we get a few more installments.

Just saw this, and thought it was pretty damn fun. The thing is, it feels more like a prelude to something bigger than an actual true, standalone film. I actually wish this was a film to promote an upcoming TV series, because the material would lend itself well to a weekly show. Either way, I hope it does well enough so at least a second film can be made, because it was a nice start and created a likable character I wouldn't mind seeing again.

I picked it up at Best Buy today. It was priced at $14.99, so I took it up to the customer service desk and started to explain and the girl said, "website says $8.99 right?" So she must have had to price match a few times during the day.

This whole Best Buy business is confusing me. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $9.96 because Anchor Bay titles are, for some reason, always cheaper there. Then I get to Best Buy and see the 2-Disc version and I was pissed. But, it was five bucks more for what appears to be just a short film, with commentary and behind-the-scenes on said short film. Now, I find out I could've saved a buck AND gottten the second disc. This is a suck!

EDIT: Affirmative! Teen Massacre is, indeed, a 16-minute short from 2004, from the same director.

Maybe it rang up for $8.99 at the register? It's only on sale this week I think. I ordered it online and chose store pickup, and for once had no problems with Best Buy yesterday. :)

The second disc only contains a short film titled "Teen massacre", making-of featurette and audio commentary. You're not really missing much if you only got the normal 1-disc edition.

There's an article in this month's Rue Morgue stating that they're already getting ready to make a Jack Brooks sequal. The Canadian Best Buy dvd is listed at $28.99 here but if Walmart has the single disc for 9 bucks I'm gonna head over there at lunch and scoop it up.

I rented this today. God, I'm glad that I only paid a dollar. Aside from the performances of the lead actor and Robert Englund there wasn't very many redeeming qualities to the film. Actually, I think aside from the score those were the only redeeming qualities. A movie that boasts 'monster slayer' in the title shouldn't take an hour and ten minutes of the hour and twenty five minute running time to get to the goods. Ugh, I just want the taste out of my mouth.

Watched this last night. It was ok I guess. But also kinda boring, until the last 25 minutes. I applaud the effort but Jack himself is kinda lame. I was all set to see this cool out of his element kick ass "monster slayer" , but instead got a guy running scared & throwing garbage cans at the monsters. (it takes so long before he starts fighting back) Doubt Ash has to look over his shoulder.

^ That kills me. I'm usually good about checking prices, but I was at Amoeba and found a copy for $17.99 and bought it on a whim. Then I find out BB has a 2-disc set for $8.99 first week, now $6.99. And the movie isn't even that good. Oh well.

I finished watching this today along with the Teen Massacre short and though Monster Slayer waits til near the end of the movie to get real good, the little jokes leading up to the finale was quite nice. Englund was hilarious in his part and the outbursting lead actor seemed very comfortable in his part (though his supposed "girl" was indeed the worst). "Howard" had some funny one liners too. Teen Massacre was actually pretty good for what it was. They seemed to be having a blast in making both the short and the full length films.

Yesterday I saw "Re-Animator" and Stuart Gordon was there and spoke before the movie.

Finally got around to watching this and it ain't bad at all. Kinda of like an Evil Dead but slightly sillier and not as scary (if at all). It's one of those movies though that keeps you entertained throughout. Kinda surprised it wasn't a bit more mainstream as it seemed to have decent production values. I had never heard of it until this forum. Wouldn't mind catching a sequel.
