Does anyone remember a movie from 1990 called Hardware? (I'ts a killer robot on the loose sci-fi/horror film.)

I was wondering if anyone's seen anything about this coming out on DVD anytime soon?

I love this film. I having been searching for a release date on DVD myself, but to no avail. I found a supposedly unedited VCD of it from Hong Kong off Ebay. The only scene that I can tell was altered/changed/added etc. was the one where the door closes on the security guard. There's a few seconds more of gore. I figured the VCD would hold me until someday when there's a DVD release.

Oh yeah, I rented this once. It was decent, not great or anything, but worth the $2 rental.

Hardware does indeed kick ass, I was wondering about this myself. This does need a DVD release and quick!

Hardware is a very cool little film, I would love a copy of it on DVD in, of course, it's original unrated version. This director is very talented, also did another film that is long overdue for DVD treatment Dust Devil (in desperate need of an unrated, uncut version). Haven't herd much about this director though after that unfortunate Island of Dr, Moreau fiasco. That is sad, because he is obviously talented and has a love for the genre.

Reviving an old thread here. I'm a huge fan of this film and I have the "Red Edition", but some of the extras on this one sounded good. I bought this from Diabolik DVD and it is a limited edition, only 666 pressings. Anyone know what is meant by a "hardbox"? Link here since I got the last one from Diabolik and they are not listing it anymore.

I know. I've got the red edition. I was hoping someone could clarify what a hardbox is. Or perhaps it is just some kind of marketing word. I should have it by the next couple of days.

That's a picture of the version I just purchased.

hardbox is sorta like those PAL x-rated cult dvd's are packaged. Its a bigger box, thick cardboard, a "hardbox" :)

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't gotten any imports in such a case yet. Is it garbage or is it superior to keepcases?

They are sort of a Clamshell type of package. Remember those really old VHS clamshell cases that Warner used at first? It's somewhat similar to those (a tad thinner), except the other shell is harder and not really laminated.

... I really wish Hardware would come to Region 1. I have the import Red Edition DVD, but I'd love to see a better transfer.

I bought the Red Edition just before Christmas as I'd given up on a R1 version. Still think it's a great film and Stacey Travis is gorgeous!

The film itself is incredible, but Stacey Travis is reason enough to see it. I absolutely love everything about this film!! I own the soundtrack and the original poster. I actually ran it in the theatre back in college when I was a projectionist. The film came under the radar. I and everyone else hadn't even heard about it. I put the film together and realized it was scifi, so I had to take a look and ended up loving it!!

Let us know what you think about this new version. I saw this new DVD release recently on either the xploited cinema and/or diabolik dvd website(s).

I'd like to get the "best" version of the movie on DVD and since you have the RED EDITION it would be nice to hear your comments about the two releases.

I've only seen the film once and that was in theatres ... was living in LA, CA at the time ... I wonder did this get a wide release when it was out?

Taken from IMDB: Based on a story called "Shok" which appeared in the magazine 2000AD.

I remember seeing it at a preview screening in London and being blown away (I still love it - Ooo... and a Ministry track on the soundtrack - which I have, it's a gold disc on the Milan label - very nice).

I remember Richard Stanley being interviewed and saying it was based on a dream he had when he was a kid (ahem), I 'think' the 2000AD disclaimer on the end credits was added at a later date.

Yes, and if you do a search for it online, you can find a digital copy on the 2000 AD website!! I downloaded it, and I even tracked down one of the issues on Ebay. From an English seller, of course. Got it for under $10 shipped. The issue numbers it appeared in are on the 2000AD website as well.
