I hope next year they will do a remake of The Mist. That was a great film...

At this pace they're going to be remaking films before the original is even released.

I am beginning to shoot the remake of Harold and Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay. The only difference is that I will use real G Bush in my movie.....hehe and some good home grown of course.

Can't say this is surprising. Carpenter wants all of his movies remade.
Excerpts on the topic of remakes from a John Carpenter interview done last year by the Suicide Girls:
DRE: Do you have any desire to be more involved?
John: My main involvement is I read the scripts and make sure the character is the same character that we wrote originally. I think that would be cool. My other main involvement in this project is to extend my hand and have a check placed in it.
DRE: It’s always nice when you don’t have to do anything, right?
John: You’re right. After 30 odd years of being in the fucking business, it’s nice to not have to do anything and get paid. That’s what I’ve been trying to do all my life.

I still love Carpenter's honesty about the whole remake situation and just wanting to get paid for doing nothing anymore.
I loath the idea of remaking this classic and doubt I'll bother seeing this. The original is fucking perfect!
I can't wait for the Ghosts of Mars remake with Lil Chingy or Lil Scrappy or Lil Whatthefuckever in Ice Cube's role. Oh, and Beyonce taking the Pam Greir part, and that talentless Heidi bitch from The Hills as the lead.*
*First one to make the "that will be an improvment over the original crapfest" comment runs the risk of being slapped. I got money coming, am traveling, and the end of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back fresh in my head!:D
Next time the doorbell rings could, it be me and my backhand. Be afriad, be very afraid!

Dude, I just hope They Live isn't going to be remade next. I'm sure it will happen eventually. Who do you see being cast in that? Your casting predictions above are on the money!

I'm so out of the wrestling scene so it's hard to say who the Piper part will go to, but it will be a wrestler. I'll say Kane for now just because he's already been in some movies and it will probably be a WWE/MTV venture.
Michael Clarke Duncan would be too good for Keith David's part, so they'll use the new Sam Jackson (in that he's in around 50% of all movies being made over the last few years), Terrence Howard despite his smaller stature.
Peter Jason will be replaced by Dane Cook (ugh!) and another worthless reality tv girl will take Meg Fosters role.

But who would take on George Buck Flower's role?

Oh man, I struggled with that one and hoped it would slip by.:o
It would be someone completely NOT like Buck, and they would probably want another "name" attached so I'll throw these out since they make the least sense to me.:D
Ashton Kutcher
Justin Timberlake
or maybe a rapper since they show up in everything now.:(
Oh yeah, if MTV stays out (and it's big budget) we can look forward to Jessica Alba or Jennifer Gardner in the Meg role. I still think it will be pysdo-celeb though.

The bad part is that this actually wouldn't be a bad idea for a remake--there's a lot of places you can go with this story, unlike a lot of the other recent remakes, but I just know the execution will be terrible.

 Carpenter is going all Ol' Dirty Bastard, "You know my name now give me my money!"
Can we stop acting like these remakes are personal insults to Carpenter now? I mean, come on. He's at home counting his dollars with a big, slightly creepy smile on his face.

Personally, they insult me, the audience. As if my attention span is that short that I can't possibly watch a 13-year old movie without losing interest.

This will either be a total piece of shit or a good remake. No way will it be anything in between those two.

The church featured in the film is a few minutes drive from where I work. A jackass developer has bought the land immediatley surrounding the church and it's now amongst hundreds of homes, no longer sitting by itself atop a grassy hill. Man I hate population growth. Here's a pic from 2005 showing the ripped apart land getting reading for million dollar homes:
