View Full Version : Help me with horror movie filming locations in LA

I live in Vegas and I go to the LA area a lot, and I've always wanted to check out some "famous" horror filming locations. In a few weeks, I'm heading down and this time I'm going to take a day and do it.
I need some suggestions though, as I'm racking my brain trying to come up with some good ones.
What I'm definitely checking out already:
1. Nancy's house in Nightmare on Elm Street
2. All the houses from Halloween
3. The mall from Chopping Mall
4. The house from Six Feet Under (not horror, but it's a cool house)
Other than that, I am drawing a blank. Help?!

I'm getting ready to move to Burbank for a year or so and I'm also really intrigued by this (particularly the Halloween locations). If there's anyone in the LA area that's up for showing a Canadian around (and going to screenings/conventions, hopefully), I'd be really thankful (and by "thankful" I mean I'll hook you up with gas money and beer).

Without a doubt, check out the Hollywood Mausoleum where ONE DARK NIGHT was shot. That place is awesome! If you're into silent films at all Rudy Valentino is interred there. I haven't been back to LA since 2002 but I think the cemetery is on Santa Monica blvd. Either that or one street parallel. Another thing you may want to do (which I forgot to do) is to hunt down Bela Lugosi's gravesite. He's buried in a different cemetery, though.
Also, if you like PHANTASM you could go get yourself some ice cream at Fosselman's in Alhambra, CA. Mapquest says it's a 15 minute drive from the center of LA.

If you're in Southern California in July, you MUST go to Comic-Con San Diego. It's just about 120 miles from Burbank, and is THE biggest convention of the year. The horror stuff is scattered (but it's all there), but if you're also into sci-fi, books, art, animation, pretty much anything genre related, get yourself a full pass now. They do sell out.
Also, if you like PHANTASM you could go get yourself some ice cream at Fosselman's in Alhambra, CA.
The exteriors of that scene were shot in Julian CA, just outside of San Diego. If you see the full-frame version, you can even see a sign saying "Julian General Store" as Mike walks by.

I'm not from Cali or anything but I do believe Chopping Mall was shot at the old Galleria Mall which is also where Fast Times at Ridgemont High was shot. Possibly Phantom of the Mall aka Eric's Revenge too, I forget.

I thought the same mall Chopping Mall was shot at was the one Terminator 2 was filmed. I could have sworn I heard that they closed it down.
Also, the Halloween house was moved from its original location to a completely different place. They had a big feature on it on the Halloween 25 Years DVD that came out last year.
The Nightmare On Elm Street house is still there I think.
I think the Hell Night house is just outside of LA. I wanna say Redlands, but I'm probably wrong

Thanks for the suggestions. I should've clarified that I already have the addresses of the ones I listed, but thanks for those. And yeah, the Myer's house was moved and is like a law office or something, but I got all the info from imdb.
I will be looking for the Hell Night house though! What about Night of the Demons?

I looked into it. Chopping Mall, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Terminator 2, Commando, and probably a bunch of others were all shot at the Sherman Oaks Galleria Mall. It hasn't been torn down or anything but it has been remodeled since.

It was torn down and no longer exist.
The mall was completely torn down, and rebuilt as an outdoor stroll with a few restaurants, a gym, and a movie theater.
From what I was told several years ago. The Mall was not torn down from the northridge earthquake. The Mall itself was a shit hole and nobody shopped there anymore. Most of the blame fell on the city and the people who lived in Sherman Oaks. Residents felt there were too high and all mighty to go shopping there. Can you blame them though? ........................nope!

Sherman Oaks is an affluent neighborhood, with several high-end fashion boutiques, and features many upscale houses and restaurants. One of the city's main claims to fame is the presence of the Sherman Oaks Galleria, a shopping mall identified as a meet-up place for the Valley girls, a 1980s cultural label which became widely known because of the 1983 movie Valley Girl and a song of the same name by Frank Zappa. In addition, a portion of the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High was filmed there. After being damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, the Galleria eventually was torn down and replaced by an open-air retail and office complex that bears little resemblance to the original mall.

It's a strange phenomenon when a mall up and dies, isn't it? Why does it happen exactly? A new mall opens, people get excited, visit and shop for "X" number of years... Finally they tire of it, petition City Hall to build another. Bigger mall opens: old mall dies a slow death. The circle begins again.

It's really funny here in San Diego. Because of such limited space, new malls rarely come up. Instead, there seems to be a "rotation" of who gets to be the "Dirt Mall" for a few years.
When I first moved here, something called University Towne Center was THE place, with all the stores. Mission Valley Center was the second tier, and Fashion Valley was the dirt mall. Mission Valley got a 20 screen AMC theater, and became the happening mall. UTC lost their movie theater. Then Fashion Valley got a multi-million dollar makeover, and now is the top mall in the city. Mission Valley is now the dirt mall. UTC just got turned down by the city for renovation, and there's a LOT of empty storefronts.
I'm guessing UTC is next in line to be the San Diego Dirt Mall.

I honestly do not like malls at all anymore. When I was a kid I totally loved them. Now they are just a over crowded over priced cluster fuck hole. Good luck finding a parking spot and don't let any strollers hit you in the ass when you exit! hahah!

I should've clarified that I have all the info for the ones I listed already via imdb, and yeah the Chopping Mall was reconstructed, so I think that one's out.
Any more? Does anyone know about the house in Night of the Demons? Was that a set?
