Just finished watching this a few minutes ago for the first time. It was a lot of fun ! Very macabre, with lots of cool little in-jokes. Lots of nice looking ladies as well, even if a few of them were batshit crazy. Sid Haig is awesome as usual, Lon Chaney Jr. was great as well. This film has really stood the test of time. I will definitely buy this . Great pick !

Great choice X-human, one of my very favorite films. It's also one of the top 5 best blind buys that I ever made, this is the movie that introduced me to the wild and wonderful world of Jack Hill.

In other news, does anyone think this movie played a big role in developing the character of Druscilla on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? They are the splitting image and seem to suffer from a very similar malady.

I just watched this one a while back thanks to 1x1's constant mentioning of it and I loved every second of it! Excellent performances (over-the-top but in a good way), great characters, bug eating , and....oh whatever, just a bloody great flick! I don't have much money to spend these days on DVDs but this one is definitely a must purchase for me.

Thank you 1x1 bringing this one to my attention. :)

So I make the pick yet onebyone gets the thanks. Gee wiz. ;)

After watching this again what I really liked was the way it merged classic horror with modern horror. At the scene in the dinner table the romantic leads chat cheerfully about all the classic universal monsters, the girl does her best Wolfman impersonation when Chaney chimes in, "It'll be a full moon tonight." The girl freezes mid performance to look over the children and only then does she fully grasp that these are monsters too. This moment really passes the torch from movie monsters to regular lunatics.

This movie really is Chaney's swan song, sadly his own father never really had such and opportunity. By the end in Dracula vs. Frankenstein Junior wasn't even given speaking parts, just mute. This movie plays well into his strengths, which is being a sympathetic monster. As the Wolfman I honestly never felt sorry for him, but with this you'd have to have a heart of stone not to be care for Bruno's plight.

It worth noting that the black delivery man in the opening is Mantan Moreland (http://www.horror-wood.com/mantan.htm), who's probably stared in as many mystery/thriller/horror movies as Chaney has! I didn't recognizing him the first few times I saw it, but with this viewing his comedic performance rung a bell and I finally had the sense to see if he'd done stuff like that before as it was a classic comedy performance.
