What a pleasant surprise this Portuguese little gem was. It's about a family who inherits a house that is rumored to be cursed. I know the premise seems pretty been there done that but the film really isn't. It reminded me of a combination of Amityville Horror 2/The Exorcist. The film is deliberately paced so that may put off some but if you stay with it, it's worth it. The chills are well executed and come very subtly. It felt very controlled and uncompromising and the acting and cinematography is great. It's a Tartan USA release so who knows how long it will be before it's gone.

I absolutely hated it. It was incredibly boring, I wouldn't even really call it much of a horror film per se...more like an overly extended family drama that could have been a decent short film.

Watched this film for the second time this afternoon. If you don't mind deliberately paced "slow burn" supernatural stories, well then this movie simply has very few flaws. It's subtle, has some great acting and intelligent dialog. You just get the feeling the directors are tired of teen horror flicks and are intent on an uncompromised mature horror film. Slow, deliberate camera movements capture the beautiful shots of rural Portuguese country side, while subtle music and sound effects add the creepy atmosphere. What is not to like about this under appreciated hidden gem?
