Apparently, even if your date doesn't like horror, it can be done! Thanks to the "Top 20 of Chick Flick Horror Movies" (http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/2008/04/26/retrospective-top-20-chick-flick-horror-movies/)! If there are any gory parts your date doesn't much care for, you just hug ... and roll.
I especially like the author's views on Carrie
This is more a high-school horror film than a chick flick, but it captures a sense of ordinary people living in a world we all recognize, and despite the horrible vengeance she ultimately unleashes on her tormentors, Carrie remains a sympathetic character that women - and men - can relate to.:lol::lol:

I'm pleasantly surprised, shocked even, at the list. I was expecting to see predominantly recent films. (And not a Ginger Snaps to be seen!) I always roll my eyes whenever somebody posts a "Top Whatever" list, but I have to admit, this one's pretty good.

Some of them aren't my speed, but there's a handful of my personal favorites on that list. Very pleased to see Vincent Price at the top! The Haunting is the best one there in my opinion.
I'm lucky in that my wife can't stand romantic comedies and the stereotypical chick flicks. Yeah, she loves to watch her Sex and the City and Melrose Place dvds, but she also loves some pretty extreme horror. One of her favorite movies of all time is The Devil's Rejects.

Vincent Price is a hit with the ladies, somewhat surprisingly. Whenever you talk about non-current horror Vincent's usually on top of a gal's list of horror fiends.

Oh brother. Reading that made my head go all Baggio's Icon.
pfft, why isn’t 'I Spit on your Grave' on this list?!?
On a more serious note, what about the flip side to this question.
What are good horror movies to recommend to guys?
I lent some guy I work with a copy of the original Day of the Dead, and he returned it without saying anything about the film. Just a ‘oh hey, here’s your movie back’. Which made me a little sad inside cuz that film is near and dear to me.
A few weeks ago I was in Hastings and got into a conversation with some dude that said he was looking for a 70s horror film with a cool soundtrack. I was wearing a return of the living dead t-shirt, and carrying around a copy of Rue Morgue, so I guess he figured I would know. I talked him into renting Demons. When I ran into him again, he avoided eye contact.
Were those bad recommendations for introductory horror films? What films would you recommend to people that didn’t seemed very versed in horror?

Meh, my girlfriend watches every kind of horror flick with me. Any subgenre is cool with her, whether it's supernatural, gore or 80s slasher flicks. When you've got a girl who walks around the house randomly singing that ridiculous "ARE THE STREETS TO BLAME!" song from Fulci's Murderock, you tend to forget how boring most females are.

I watched Shaun of the Dead with people from I used to live with in my dorm. They said it was the worst movie ever despite the fact that they were laughing just about the entire time. That whole "stigma" that goes with horror movies can't be avoided sometimes.
Anyway, my ex wouldn't mind watching spooky movies at all, but she preferred them to be newer. She didn't like "old shit" and wouldn't tolerate any foreign movie even if it was dubbed. But she didn't mind going to horror conventions with me and most of the time requested we watch something scary, so she was OK in that respect.

So Ugetsu was made in 1853? Well, I had no idea!
As long as the list doesn't have trash like the remake of Prom Night on it, I'm fine with it.

This has been a big selling point of horror since the 30's - the idea being a horror fan makes a woman grab you with fear.
The list is okay - but it also means you'll have to find a woman who's willing to watch silent movies, black and white movies, subtitled movies, and movies with actors she's likely never heard of. :D

The Innocents was a film my gf got me to watch on the basis that its source material is a favorite story of ours: The Turn of the Screw.
Now, she loves the film, but I really hated the ending, such a cop-out compared to James' original ending.
Cool idea for a list, though--will give some of these a look (love that DotD made the list!)

Luckily, I have the best girlfriend ever, so I don't have to "disguise" the horror in horror movies, nor does she ever nag me into watching "chick flicks" or garbage like "Sex and the City." Two of her all-time faves are NOTLD and TCM (the originals of course).

Interesting list, but some of these would've bored my ex to tears.
On a sidenote, if you wanna get rid off your chick pop in this classic (http://www.horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=24989&highlight=Troll)

If your girl likes watching I Spit on Your Grave or The Last House on the Left, marry her. She is perfect.

My fiancee walked in on Killing Spree about halfway through when the DVD came out. She asked me a few questions, I answered them and she watched approximately fifteen minutes. She got really upset that I spent money on it, threw a minor tantrum and left the room. It's still a joke we revisit from time to time.
She likes some horror-related stuff like The Orphanage, Lost Boys, Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 and a few others. It's a hit and miss game.
I sit each of my dates down and screen them the intestine-spewing scene from City of the Living Dead. If they don't dig that, then they're out the door. Don't need'em.

Does she dance while singing? In that case, you should upload a video.

My wife tolerates the flicks. I made her watch Dead Alive last night. She thought it sucked.

Good call. You've got a real winner if they're down with that. The brain drill scene should also be included in this sitting too.

Man, my girlfriend was the one that bought the I Spit On Your Grave disc we own. She's not much of a Fulci fan because his movies don't make any goddamn sense, so I can understand that. She's a massive fan of 80's slashers, she loves giallo flicks, 80's sex comedies, almost anything good. She laughs at my Godzilla flicks, but I'm willing to bend on that.
And to top it all off, she looks like this:

I don't know man, that picture with her hands on her hip is a classic latent uber-bitch warning sign. Beware, women are like pitbulls, they can turn on you at any moment (funny, I was just having this convo with my girl an hour ago:lol:). ;)
She sounds and looks like a winna though, keep her!:)

Oh yeah, that's a bitch pose for sure. Ironically, she was talking to me on the phone when that was taken. I figure all women are ridiculous in that oh-so-female way that drives us all out of our frigging minds, so really you have to just accept that and look for the other qualities.
It's like how we're always gonna look at other women (or at least glance), have a need for toys (either cars, home theatres, DVDs or whatever else) and need them to not talk so damn much. Some things are just inherent in females just like males.

There's actually only one movie that ever offended my wife. That would be the Asian horror trilogy Three Extremes. She works as a nanny and the violence towards children depicted in the film was way too much for her. To say she hates this movie is a vast understatement!
Way back when I was dating this one gal, I took her to horrorfind weekend, and as we got to the Media Blasters table, she pleaded with me to get Porno Holocaust, which I did. Too bad she turned out to be untrustworthy.
