I don't post here very often, but read from time to time, and I'm ashamed to say whenever the questions of Anchor Bay's limited edition tins come up, I always go with the "who cares - it's only a tin" camp.

Well, all that's changed...

I just got hold of the Let Sleeping Corpses Lie tin the other day online, and recieved it this morning.

Wow!

Everything about it is so classy. It reminds of my former glory days of VHS box sets, with loads of pointless crap that I didn't care about, but all that's changed now. This is a truly exquisite set, with a great essay booklet, gorgeous packaging, two poster postcards and an undeniably charming toe tag. And, for something which most have been irked at, I loved the jewel case. It seemed to say "Hey! I don't NEED cover art! I'm that cool." It also says that this is in a class of its own, and not just the same thing with extra stuff.

I suggest you get one right away.

I still support moves like Suspiria and The Wicker Man, where tins are replaced with more disc content, however. But if there was a tin of the 2-disc (or, from what I've read, 3-disc in Suspiria's case) version - I'd have it in an instant.

For those who don't like them, it's obvious you've never owned one.

Tins are nice but it's the movie that really counts. I own one tin, Fulci's The Beyond. It contains the DVD, a nice informative booklet and 5 to 6 small movie posters.

I almost picked up the Evil Dead II tin but passed because I already owned the movie.

Again, tin is nice, but the movie is what I'm after.

I have the Anchor Bay "Manchester Morgue" DVD Tin as well. I have to say I am unimpressed just as I am with my other Anchor Bay tins (Hellraiser and The Beyond)...

Honestly I don't see what's so special about this one. Most all tin's come with 1 or 2 "poster" cards, a small "book" or booklet really, and the DVD. The only difference with this one that I noticed is the toe tag. The toe tag is basically a buisness card (a bit bigger) with a string attatched to it. (The art from the cover on the card, and the body info on the back) ... I mean it's a neat little gimmick, but enough to justify the 30+ price tag? I'm still not convinced.

As for the booklet it contains some cool info, but is roughly the same size (perhaps smaller) than my Beyond booklet.

I dunno, I liked the tin's for the boxes, but I think I am growing away from them now.

What can I say? Isn't there a proverb about "small things please small minds"... :)

I like the experience of owning the tin. The packaging is just splendid. And I got it for $35 with priority shipping to the UK, so felt it was worth it.

I personally love tins, they remind me of the "clamshell" cases that VHS movies used to have. It's big and it makes the movie look special on your DVD rack. Some tins suck (Halloween 5), yet others are totally worth the extra money (The Beyond, Hellraiser, Evil Dead 2). The books are informative and fun, and in Evil Dead 2's case, shows cut scenes that never made it to the final film. Hellraiser has the sequel as an extra, which kicks ass, and The Beyond's international posters and Lucio Fulci biography book are highly worth the extra cash. It is a great advance in DVD packaging, and is starting to be used by other companies as well. Pioneer has supposedly stated that the Special Edition of Akira will be shipped in a tin, but only time will tell.

I as well love the prominence it gives to the movie when viewing my DVD collection. The whole idea of having the "tin" is really cool. I guess my biggest deal with it is I want more. It's like I love em so much I would much rather pay like 50 bucks for a fully packed "everything you wanted to know and more" box, rather than 30-34 for a "alot of what you wanted to know" box. :)

Don't get me wrong I take what I can get! I am simply ECSTATIC there is a company out there like Anchor Bay putting tons of effort into movies that other companies won't or haven't!! They have taken movies that I had always figured would probably take years and years and years to be released on DVD and made some truly kick ass compilations. :)

I love the tins. Always have. I thought the idea was just too damn cool when they were very first announced oh so long ago. They are not for everyone! That goes without saying. They arn't called "Collector's Editions" for no reason. So obviously those who are serious collectors are the ones who are going to want these. And the reality is they were not that much more expensive then the regular editions, so that excuse is out the window. A truely worthy "Collector's Edition" for that excuse would be the Jurassic Park set. It was over $100. Was it worth the price merely because of the "cool" box and the addition of the soundtracks and a few pictures? For me, yes... and no. I think it was outrageously priced, but it's just damn cool. And it looks great in my collection. To ask "why" would be like asking racing and football fans why they are plopping down hundreds of bucks for little metal cars or signed footballs. To mock would be like mocking those who dish out the ridiculous funds for Dale Earnhert memorabilia. It's a collectable! It makes collections fun and interesting, and it gives the collectors a thrill to add it to their displays.

I hate reading endless "tins suck!" threads. I personally think racing and most sports are pointless and pathetic wastes of time. Really what do people get out of watching cars go in a circle and overpaid pseudo-role models run up and down courts or fields? I'm certainly not going to mock those who do enjoy them and collect the suiveneers. Most of those I know who enjoy these things mock my interests and I certainly wouldn't want to lower myself to that level.

Tins are fun, what's the big deal?

Why do you feel the need to bring up redneck racing into the thread D6? Just what the hell does that have to do with AB Tins? Personally, I think racing is pretty pointless too, but I think bashing it here on this forum out of the blue like that is pretty pointless as well.

Well, it's two days later, and I still love the tin!

Bring on Bad Taste and Heathers!

For anyone who wants the full text that was excerpted in AB's 24-page booklet in the Let Sleeping Corpses Lie tin, go here (http://www.midnight-media.demon.co.uk/publications.html).

It's 40 pages, don't know about full colour, haven't recieved my copy yet.

I just want it all! :D

Well, obviously, mutleyhyde, you ignored the point I was making to merely have the example stick in your mind, not surprising since you attempt to find fault with nearly everything I say. I was making a comparrison, being that I reside in Texas... it makes perfect sense (you should realize that being in Dallas and all). I doubt there's anything wrong with comparisons in this or any other forum. I noticed that you didn't hesitate to offer your two-cents about racing either (taking up a moment to call it "redneck"). So you didn't like my example? So what. I noticed you had absolutley nothing to say regarding what this thread is really about (Anchor Bay Tins, remember?), and you call my example pointless? Hummm, how interesting.

Then don't use examples D6, stay on topic. Don't worry buddy, I know exactly how you feel, you make your point(s) very undeniably known. You pretty much hate everything. Thanks for letting us know. But "Extra Extra, read all about it!!", we already know, okay? Okay, you want me to put in my 2 cents on topic? Okay, but you're not going to like it, but then, what do you like? And it really doesn't matter what I say because you're just baiting me so you can retort with some more snappy banter. Okay, I'll play along; for now.

Anyway, I could give a rat's ass if another tin ever came out. I do not "hate" tins. I just don't really care. Sorry, but I do like two-disc editions such as AOD and Halloween. I think the packaging is just fine. I also don't mind having the tins for Hellraiser and Repo Man. Sure, they're nice, but if it's a pain in the ass to deal with, I'd rather AB concentrate on the quality of the content on the disc.

Yes, D6, I take issue with a lot of what you say because a lot of what you say is full of hate, defensinveness, hostilaty and bait. No one has attacked you on this board unless you have already attacked something on topic that was obviously in favor of the thread. Hate T&A? Hate Elvis? Okay, fine. I don't mind that you disagree, just that you post with flagrant hostility. So why don't you open your own threads as to these topics and quit infesting current threads with your negativity?

You are imagining quite a few things. But that's ok, stay in your shell. I don't really care if you don't like me or what I have to say, but don't be a hypocrit about it. And if you think everything I say is negative and full of hate, you arn't nearly paying as much attention as you'd like to think. Besides, rarely do you write anything positive yourself. Like I said, don't be a hypocrit.

As far as being defensive, with your attacks why shouldn't I be? Face it, it's obvious most people are used to my sense of humor now (or ignoring it) and you are the only one left taking offense and being outrightly rude about it. Believe what you what. You're wrong.

It's clear to me that this is not the overwelming thoughts about me. I have received many very pleasent e-mails from many memebers on here, so you can make me out to be some nihilistic jerk all you want, it's clearly not working. My advise, read more of my posts, and lose that preconceived attitude. I don't know why you've taken such a narrowminded disliking to me, frankly I don't care because, dude everything you've said about me is a direct reflection of your involvment here as well.

And I'm hostile? Man, you clearly don't read your posts or a few others. You act as though I am the only one who has negative things to say. You are the only person who has something nasty to say to me all the time! You expect no response? Get over it. You people don't like many things I like, do you see me taking permanant offense to everything you say? No, you don't. And like the Suqiggy post before, I'm done with you.
