This was a tough poll. Although I love Suspiria, I had to go with Phenomena. I love Jennifer Connelly in this role and that film is Argento's creepiest.

Several good ones but to me none are close to Suspiria

Nothing original about my pick. Suspiria, it's the best. Give me virtually any of his films and a notepad and it's paradise for me though. Well, maybe not Phantom of the Opera...
Welcome to the boards, Harry. Nice name.
This poll has virtually been done before here (http://horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=31701), but this one has some new pics, so I'll leave it open.

Spreading some love.
Suspiria will run away with this, but I'm going with Cat O'Nine Tails.

Recently I've switched favoriticism from Suspiria and Opera to Tenebre. It's the one I'm drawn to most these days.

Ive switched it a few times over the years. Used to be Suspiria, then Tenebre, now Deep Red. I'm sure it will cycle back someday.

He's made several classics but I always fall back on DEEP RED,Very clever, great score, some great shocks.David Hemmings was also one of Argento's most likeable leads.

Something about this poll feels... seriously redundant.
Suspiria. If the greatest works of art are the most unique, uncanny, and still at the same time highly effective, well-made, ambitious, and interesting... Suspiria succeeds and excells on all levels. It's one of the greatest horror films I've ever seen. Unquestionably, his best film.

tenebre followed by suspiria for me
Suspiria by far, one of the films that turned me on to horror.
I'm about to plug in the version included in Anchor bay Limited edition 3 disc set. On the back of mine it says 36137/60,000. Anyone on here awesome enough to have a significantly lower number?

Went with Suspiria. A masterpiece in my opinion, and the movie that got me hooked on Argento and other European horror films. I just recently watched Tenebre for the first time, and although I liked it a lot, I expected it to be a little better. Then again, after it finished, I wanted to watch it again, so I think that says something. I have a feeling over time it will grow to be one of my favourites.
Anyways, I'd say Suspirira is my favourite followed closely by Deep Red, and then Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Tenebre. I'm going to watch Phenomena for the first time tonight, so we'll see if that changes my list!

Man, this is tough...of course it's gonna be Suspiria pretty much across the board and rightfully so...but for me I'm very partial to Tenebre. Someting about it's style gets me every time. I also SERIOUSLY agree with Shithead that Inferno is terribly underated. The underwater scene in the beginning of that film is one of my favorite moments in a horror film ever. Honorable mention goes to Phenomena for having Iron Maiden's 'Flash Of The Blade' in the film and soundtrack. Heavy metal and horror will always go hand in hand far as I'm concerned...

Suspiria remains my personal favorite. I also really love Tenebre, Inferno, Bird with the Crystal Plumage, and Phenomena. All brilliant films in different ways.
I have very little desire to see Mother of Tears after all the reviews I have read. Big thumbs down on both of the Masters of Horror episodes. Worst of all would be The Stendhal Syndrome. I despise that movie! :fuck: Regret picking up that 2 disc dvd on a blind buy.
Bottom line is that I'm a fan of Argento's older movies. Two Evil Eyes was probably the last one I enjoyed.

My favorite one shifts back and forth, as mentioned earlier. Right now I pick SUSPIRIA, but DEEP RED was my favorite for a long time, and I think TENEBRE has been my number one in the past too.

I love so many of his films and I really need to revisit a few, since I have them all on DVD, but Supiria always stands out to me. Not only do I still remember the trailer scaring me to death as a little kid (and this was seeing it on TV), but I remember so many scenes from the film very vividly. It's the one Argento film I've seen the most!

No Argento film is without merrits, but few are without flaws. I tend to like films for their strengths more than for their lack of flaws, but Argento's flaws are so distinctive that they often jump at me when I watch his films.
Deep Red is without doubt my favourite Argento - mostly because he gets to show off all his strengths while managing to work his way around his weaknesses. The cast is likable, the dramatic scenes work (I love the one where the psychic picks up the thoughts of a killer in the auditorium), the cast generally does quite well, and the story tight. It's not just a favourite Argento, but a favourite horror film overall.
I love The Cat o'-Nine Tails for the clever resolution of the plot. The fact that Argento dislikes this film more than his Phantom of the Opera disqualifies him as a critic of his own work in my eyes.
I could never get into Tenebrae. For me, it has some great moments, but they feel isolated, and the score simply isn't as melodic as those of Suspiria and Deep Red, making the movie feel cold. Worst moment is that damn line: "somebody who should be dead is alive, or somebody who should be alive is already dead." I think I can understand why others like this film, though...
Suspiria is truly great. The lead and the elderly female supporting actors turn in awesome performances (I live the tight smile of Alida Valli), the whole affair is just so visually striking, and in terms of the score, it's just a notch above the excellent score of Deep Red. But why didn't they edit out that embarassing bat attack? And why do many of the supporting young females seem forced ("help, there's a murder!")?

Tenebre. Then Suspiria, Deep Red and Inferno are all up there all most to close to call.

Btw,where are the Doors into Darkness?
Il Tram is a very fine example of early Argento.Pretty much in the same vein as Bird..It even started out to be part of Bird...
