Just a heads up. Amazon has the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Player (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FSony-BDP-S300-1080p-Blu-ray-Player%2Fdp%2FB000PALZE0%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Delectro nics%26qid%3D1222059605%26sr%3D8-1&tag=thebigdave&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325) for $199.98 shipped. Looks like they're unloading last year's Profile 1.0 players. Amazon has this marked as "While Supplies Last".

Good deal if you're looking for a cheap player to get started in Blu-Ray.

This is the player I have and I love it. The only drawback is the slow load times...but that is getting better with each firmware upgrade. When I first got the player, it was like put the disc in...go make a sandwich...eat it...clean up the mess...use the bathroom...and the movie might be on when you sat down again...now most discs take only about 30 seconds to load on average.

Here's some reviews. Keep in mind that most reviews are a year old and might not reflect current firmware fixes:

If you're gonna go blu you'll be wasting your money on anything that isn't 2.0 compatible. Even at $200 I'd bet you'd wish you would have waited or spent the extra $200 and got a real player. Why settle for something gimped.

That's about how I feel! I'm more and more wanting a Blu Ray player, but I'm not willing to pay more than $200 for one and I think the better players will go down to that amount in time and I'm willing to wait. I just got upgraded HD service and a DVR. That will keep me happy for now!

Eh, Profile 1.1 is the important one for BD-J as interactive features. After that Profile 2.0 just gives you a network card and web features. While I have my PS3 hooked up to my network, I've yet to use any web features. It's pretty much only convienent for downloading firmware updates which honestly I haven't bothered to do since Profile 2.0 came out.

The Sony BDP-S300 is Profile 1.1 enabled and supports HDMI 1.3 which is the most advanced. Unless you have a burning desire to use the web with Blu-ray, I'd say it's a good deal.

I think you're right. According to some reviews, the BDP-S300 is Profile 1.1 when you upgrade the firmware.

I wouldn't worry too much about Profile 2.0. I don't think I've ever used any of the 2.0 features. If you're looking to get your feet wet in the HD game, this player should be fine.
