Neat! Here's mine (only the top 5 are in order):

1) Halloween
2) Black Christmas
3) Slumber Party Massacre
4) House on Sorority Row
5) The Burning
6) Friday the 13th
7) The Prowler
8) Friday the 13th part 2
9) Friday the 13th part 3
10) Friday the 13th part 4
11) Rituals (Does this count? Seems close enough to me...)
12) Just Before Dawn
13) The Prey (God, I wish this was on DVD)
14) Silent Night, Deadly Night
15) Sleepaway Camp
16) Pieces (for pure cheese/humor reasons)
17) My Bloody Valentine
18) Prom Night
19) The Town that Dreaded Sundown (would've been higher without the corniness)
20) Humongous

The only problem with a top 20 list is that there's bound to be a LOT of crossover between our lists. Kinda says a lot about the subgenre, I guess.

Also, as weak as Humongous can be, I'm a huge sucker for a huge mongoloid attacking kids in the woods. Plus that redhead with the blueberries in her cleavage.

I could easily swap in Humongous and House on Sorority Row into my top 20.

Pieces is awesome. Order it with confidence, you won't regret it.

Pieces really IS awesome. Imagine the "GARBAGE DAY!" scene from Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 times ten, plus add in a bunch of really crazy kills and a little weirdness. It's an insanely entertaining flick with pretty much everything you'd look for in a slasher.... just don't try to take it all seriously like it's Maniac or something.

Forgot about A Blade in the Dark, that's a good one! Is it a slasher or a giallo though? They confuse me as a giallo is pretty much just European slasher isn't it, with a mystery aspect to it?

Now that I think about it, you're right. I changed up Haute Tension for April Fool's Day, because I love that movie and forgot all about it!

Giallo's imo are of the slasher variety. One could even say that they are the "inventors" of the slasher. Its where modern day slashers were born from. And Haute Tension, I guess is really not. But its got some of the elements. If the opening scenes are not "slasher" then I don't know what is. Plus, I was running out of ideas for my top 20. I didn't want to put part 2, 3, etc... of Halloween & Friday the 13th. I figured I covered it with the originals of those series. I could have listed a minimum of 4 movies additional from those 2 series. They were really good, but not just for my personal top 20.

Heh, at this point I think I need a top fifty! If I ever get around to it I hope to post an exhaustive list of every slasher ever made in a news article with little mini reviews for each one for reference. It's coming...

But for right now, here's a nicely expanded top twenty:

02.Friday the 13th, Part II
03.Madman
04.Sleepaway Camp
05.Black Christmas
06.Prom Night
07.American Nightmare

15.Prom Night IV: Deliver us from Evil
16.Honeymoon Horror
17.April Fool's Day
18.The Town That Dreaded Sundown

I love A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dressed to Kill, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Tenebre and High Tension, but I don't really think they count.

Hospital Massacre is pretty good - it's kinda like a cross between Halloween II and My Bloody Valentine, but not as good as those two. However, it has some fun kills, a very attractive leading role (Barbi Benton) and the killer is a whack job!

Not sure where you're buying it as it has not been released on DVD, at least not in the states. There's two versions - Hospital Massacre and X-Ray, but X-Ray is cut by like 20 minutes (some gore and just random scenes). If you like 80's slashers there's really no reason to avoid it.

^ Evil Judgment is a decent flick with an interesting mob connection to the slasher goings-on. As for kills, most of them are simple throat slashings. The lead girl and her moody boyfriend cracked me up more often than not. There's also a pointless but amusing bit with an angry customer pissing in his soup and a diner owner who looks like a burnt out "Super Mario". I love the VHS art for this one, but yeah, decent movie, not great.

Including pseudo-slashers and proto-slashers, these are my favourites, in very rough order:

Halloween
Halloween II
Black Christmas
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Prowler
Madman
Hell Night
Maniac Cop
Halloween 5
Halloween 4
Friday the 13th: Part 2
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th: Part 3
The Unseen
Rituals
The Burning
The House on Sorority Row
My Bloody Valentine
Just Before Dawn
Prom Night

And I have yet to see Curtains, Final Exam, The Mutilator, Night Warning, Night School, Silent Scream, Sweet Sixteen, and The Town that Dreaded Sundown, so my list is not set in stone.
