While we all love horror on this site, there's no denying that each person has their own sub-genre of preference. Are you a zombie zealot or a giallo groupie? There's no clear distinction in genre, and there's no doubt many more, but pick the one from the list you like most, because "Other" sucks. There is bound to be some overlap between distinctions, but pick the sub-genre that appeals to you most. So if you like BLOODY BIRTHDAY because of the slasher elements, then go slasher, but if you like it because of all those murderous children, then go for the killer kiddies.

Voted Slasher because nothing beats a good slasher. Or a good bad slasher. And slashers from the 80s, good or bad, totally rule anyway.

Zombie or Cannibal.

I went with Haunted House. My second choice would be Horror Comedy, or Dark Humor, like the Fright Night or the Burbs or the Evil Deads :D

I want to say Werewolves, there's just so few really good ones out there. But regardless, I give them all a chance.

I'm refusing to vote out of protest due to the use of the term "torture Porn". I would of choosen other for Survival horror .

Slasher!

Slasher. certainly. All the other genres have the ability to get very tired after a few films but the formula for slasher just always seems to stick and able to be re-energized

I went with slasher, but zombie, giallo, anthology, and haunted house would be right behind. Vampires and werewolves are good too. hmmm... they're all good!

You like video game adaptations, then? Survival horror is what they call RESIDENT EVIL, SILENT HILL, CLOCK TOWER, and the like.

Nah I'm taking more like TCM, Inside, Haute Tension type of Survival horror. I guess the closest thing on the list would be Realism/Documentary. So to be more spacific Realism/Survival.

Monster movies have always been my favorite since I was a little kid. I love all different kinds of monster movies and don't discriminate. Don't have a particular favorite monster.

Also a big fan of haunted houses, mad scientists, animal attack stories, and the anthology formats.

I hate cannibal films. Not into torture porn or realism/documentary. I'll pick supernatural based horror films over those any day of the week. :)

Really tough poll, and I knew the "Torture Porn" term was going to stir up the fans.

Anyway, love the Supernatural Horror, love it! Monsters, vamps, werewolves! Hoo-ray! But I'll admit a very soft spot (not my skull) for Anthology Horror. While I've yet to truly see a "perfect" Anthology Horror collection, I give them a try no matter what. The variety is what gets me--the possibilities. If I don't like a story, all I have to do is wait a little while.

I've found that those behind the anthologies tend to be big fans of the genre as well. I'm also a big fan of short stories in Horror Literature, particularly Stephen King's. Speaking of whom, his latest collection, Just After Sunset (http://www.amazon.com/Just-After-Sunset-Stephen-King/dp/1416584080), releases next month!

Zombie followed really, really closely by slasher. That was a tough call.

Werewolves for sure. I know there aren't many good ones, but the ones that are good are really good! Monsters would in 2nd. Slashers in 3rd.

SLASHER. Never loved it more than I do right now. I have plenty of favorite horror films that aren't slashers, but overall, I own more of these than anything else in horror.

Werewolves easily. I'm actually surprised that they've gotten so many votes, so yay!! There really needs to be more werewolf movies though.

1. Werewolves
2. Animal Attack
3. Slasher
4. Killer Kids
5. Ghost
6. Monster
7. Giallo (will move up the list. Just got into them and am enjoying them a lot)
8. Vampires (mainly because I don't like the way vampires are portrayed in movies any more...they aren't scary)

Mine would be werewolves although I watch more slasher flicks- werewolf movies are really hit and miss- there are some great ones and a whole lot of really bad ones- much easier to find good or decent slasher films than werewolf ones. Honestly I could really call it a 3 way tie for werewolves, slashers and vampires but Ill give the edge to werewolves

Frankensteins all the way as there's nothing better! Anything instantly becomes entertaining with mad science.

"Torture porn?" I rather like the term. I always found Carpenter's title of "Pornographer of Gore" to be just as great.

Slasher then Zombie, Monster and Giallo.

Had to go with Slasher as Halloween's 1981 TV airing was my first run-in with that type of horror and it scared the bejesus out of me.

LOVE Torture Porn. They're the only new horror movies that will get to me every time. Haven't seen one yet that didn't get under my skin and that's what a horror movie should do.

Zombie, with Gothic really close behind.

I voted Haunted House just because I think that's the best description of what I like--anything supernatural, curses, etc. Ghost would be another good one, but that's a little too narrow. There's nothing like a creepy old house where bad stuff has happened.

I don't like most things that are too realistic. I like zombie movies in general, but I think I've reached the point where it's gotten tiring for me.

Monsters for me. I've loved monsters since I was a kid. From Kong and Harryhausen, to Godzilla and other Japanese kaiju, to big critters like Tremors and The Host, to dinosaurs, to alien horrors like Alien, Predator, and The Thing, a creature in a movie always grabs my interest.

Second for me would be zombies, followed by slashers.

I looked at the list and chose giallo, as I will watch a movie JUST BECAUSE it's a giallo. And that's the only genre on that list I can say that about. Many of my favorite movies fall into the other genres, but I'd never pick up a vampire, werewolf, or slasher film just because that's what they are. I'd have to hear good things about them or whatever.

But if I see The Seven Houses with the Painted Cat That Laughs at the Black Belly Scorpion's Bloody Eye or whatever in the rental rack, I'm a'watchin

I like all things horror, but slasher's the most entertaining to me. I grew up watching slashers on VHS, i love how silly (sometimes) they are, i love girls on slashers (they're always hot and cute so i fall in love with every slasher scream queen), i love the fx's, etc.
I'm still catching up with classics i haven't seen before, so it's good to me i still have slashers to watch.

Since this is all very general, I'll go with slashers. But I love good gore, good atmosphere, and very artistic horror movies. Which I prefer over any specific sub-genre (like From Beyond, Brain Damage, Suspiria, Bad Taste, Phantasm!). I also adore sub genre-crossers.

I vote maybe for slasher but also love the zombies but is many zombies movies is horrible. Also for the case to be make for slasher movies also but it seem is many more slasher movies so maybe is more good ones more than zombies movies. I ask my friend one time about what horrors he likes and he say any movies with midgets. He say he buy any movie that has midgets in. I remember because one time one movie of Austin Powers comes on dvd and he say he must have and I ask why because I never to rememeber him talk about this befoe or even talk about comedy movies. Is genre of horror movies even to exist about midgets? I dont understand my friend about this.

No is serious and is what my friend collect. I dont even to now about how to find out if movies have midgets inside or not but if has my friend buys. I now he has a collection for this but he is always to have crazy movies from difrent country that I never see before. But he loves Leprechan movies and tells me before should be more like this or any movie with midgets. I buy movie for him call Eyes of the Werewolf for Halloween because is say is a midget on the dvd package. We watch and is horrible but a funny thing and he never have this so he is happy to put in the collection. I now is strange genre like they say but I think maybe he enjoys for the humour?

i voted slasher...DUH!!! though some films really suck in that sub-genre, they still are fun.

btw:

Ghost
Monster
Gothic
Haunted House
Possession
Werewolfs
Vampires
Frankenstein

Wouldn't all of the above fall under the category "Supernatural"
and "Cronenbergian" couldn't that also be called "Body Horror"?
& where is Expolitation?
