Yeah, I hope it comes to pass, as I've been goin' through Amazon 3rd party sellers as of late, and snatchin' up some old school Slashers, and I am hoping that this one get's a nice re-release. Hmm a remake I noticed is comin' up, huh? Sweet, as it means a special edition release will no doubt be on the way. ;)

Well, you know they're going to re-issue it when the remake comes out... Gotta happen.

Maybe... but it doesn't always happen. All of the Death Race 2000 DVD's were OOP when the remake came out for example.

The majority of Elite Entertainment released DVD's are now OOP.

bigdaddyhorse
02-15-2009, 05:18 PM
All the old Batman flicks stayed OOP while Dark Knight came to theaters and dvd/br.

You'll probably find better prices tracking House dvds on ebay. Amazon prices for really rare stuff are jacked up super-high and don't represent the true going rate for an OOP title. Ebay does, just be sure to check the sellers stats and feedback to avoid the bad ones, there's enough good ones out there.
On the flip side, for OOP movies no one cares about, Amazon is probably better as you'll find those for a couple/few bucks, while the ebay auctions will start higher than what you can pay outright on Amazon.

Shit, this is OOP? I had no idea. Got mine for like $9.99 like 4 years ago.

Funny that this DVD is being discussed right now. I just got a British import copy from Ebay for about $10 U.S. 2 days ago. The DVD is region free PAL and is full screen unfortunately and full of compression artifacts, especially on the opening scene. During scenes with fast motion or camera pans there is a doubling effect probably caused by my player's PAL to NTSC conversion. But for 10 bucks you can't go wrong and the movie is decent.

That's actually probably due to the DVD itself. It sounds like the video was taken from an NTSC source, converted to PAL, but not speed-corrected. A few of Anchor Bay UK's titles do this (Hellraiser I and II, Bloody Birthday).

You are probably right about that, though I don't have an AB copy, but one made by a cheap-o company called Boulevard Entertainment, meaning that what you said is even more likely.

It says 25th Anniversary Edition along the top of the artwork so it sounds like it's gonna be full of features. Let's hope.

Funny thing. I recently tried purchasing the Elite one on Amazon for fairly cheap. Of course, it turned out to be a bootleg (a bad one too, VHS dubbed to DVD). I was able to get my money back. Luckily now, I can get this one!

BTW, I used the search engine & found this thread so I added this info here. Didn't want you guys to yell at me for starting a new thread when this one already existed :p

Cool that the expensive Elite disc is finally being put to bed. I hope they put some extras on this. I'm eager to revisit it, since it was an early slasher watch for me and one that disappointed me initially, but that was coming off screenings of Halloween, Friday the 13th - The Final Chapter and My Bloody Valentine. Seeing, and loving, so much zero grade slasher crap over the years will probably make me a much more receptive watcher this time 'round.

Yeah I think they are legit, but I have a couple of their releases and the quality really sucks. VHS or old Video master transfers basically.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was simply a port of the old Elite transfer.

Which was most likely just a port of the old Elite DVD's transfer. I wouldn't be surprised if that will be the case with this re-release also. Liberation are sketchy at best. Simply putting "25th Anniversary Edition" on the cover doesn't guarantee anything.

I'll wait until I hear of any confirmation of new extras before pre-ordering this one. Just because it's a re-release doesn't mean it'll be better than the old release.

I too would be down with the Slumber Party series getting re-issued. I refuse to pay more then $20 for a DVD, I don't care how hard to find it is. That series sounds good, but it also doesn't sound like it's worth more then $10 a disc. I wish Anchor Bay would start re-releasing their Hammer titles, especially considering most of them were non anamorphic I believe. Oh, and Madman! Get on it Anchor Bay! Madman would have been a great October release.

Unfortunately, the transfer really is Interlaced as all previous reports suggested. It's funny that it says "this high-quality transfer from a recently discovered pristine 35mm print" on the back cover, which clearly isn't the case. I'm virtually certain this is simply the recycled transfer from the Elite DVD...albeit downgraded from Progressive to Interlaced. :eek2:

Other than the extras? No, not really. The interlacing is noticeable in more than a few scenes, with straight-line and diagonal-line objects suffering the most. I popped in my old Elite disc and compared a few scenes where I found the interlacing artifacts visible. Sure enough, it looked better on the old DVD.

I watched it on a 47" LG LED.

The new disc is 4.80gb in size. The old Elite DVD was 4.30gb in size. Considering all the new extras and the inclusion of four Audio Tracks (5.1, stereo, commentary, french dub), I also noticed some slight compression artifacts at times on the new disc's transfer. The new disc is barely a dual-layer, and I don't see why they didn't up the bitrate somewhat.

http://www.amazon.com/House-Sorority-Row-Kate-McNeil/dp/B00004W5OZ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1263913867&sr=8-2

I'm sure it's a screw up, but just thought I'd post anyway in case someone knows something about it.

I just ordered a “Like New” copy of the Elite disc for $15 (with free shipping) from an Amazon Partner. So at least the new release drove down the prices of the Elite disc.

Not sure I’d trust the listing of the Elite disc direct from Amazon as it shows shipping in 1 to 3 weeks.

Did anyone notice compression artifacts or some type of snow coming down the menu screen on the new release? Im hoping mine isnt a dud. I didnt notice it on any of the other screens.

That's on my copy too - I gather they were trying for glitter, but yeah, it really does look ugly and out of place. The menu itself is terribly ugly, too, so it's not really a big hindrance.

Hmm. I almost picked this up this weekend...but I think I will pass and just keep my old Elite disc.

True, but I wish those Sperm Flakes weren't coming down my screen! :sperm:

I think I'll keep my Elite disc and just rent the new version, as I only need to see the extras once, since Elite DVD is progressively scanned.

I scored a brand new and sealed copy of the Elite dvd on ebay. Best part is it only cost me $9 with shipping! I'm downloading a copy to watch seeing as this sells for around $50 used. :D

It's gone out of print and now there's the fact that it's transfer is better than this new release as it's not interlaced.

The only thing the new disc has going for it are a few special features. Not even the menus look good.

The Elite disc is one of those DVD's that I love being sold for high amounts considering I bought mine new on Ebay years ago for $1 haha.

I just picked this up today, and I must say the transfer is pretty good. Compression and interlacing on my tv wasn't really a problem, the transfer was nice and warm. From all the negativity being thrown around all of the websites, I thought it was going to be bad like 'Prom Night' Echo Bridge DVD or the dvd interlacing problems the 360 has while playing DVD'S, but that just wasn't the case. Not bad at all.

I had both discs, and the elite is more washed out, but it is slightly cleaner. The extras on the new disc are good, and the menus are cheesy, but not too bad, more creative than the elite disc.

Nice to hear something positive. What kind of TV do you have?

It's an older 34" Panasonic CRT Widescreen TV.

Yep. It's from 2004. You nailed it, it does 480P/1080i. It's a nice little set, and I've always like Panasonic stuff.

I finally got a chance to lsiten to the Audio Commentary, and it really was very informative and well done.

Did anyone else notice a screen "jitter" when the layers change on the DVD? I even skipped back to see again, and it did the same thing. Maybe it's just on Sony DVD players, but I've never noticed another disc doing that, and rarely do I even notice a disc's layer change on the player. Not that this new disc is technically much of a "dual-layer" anyways, but...

OK - I'm about 30 years late to the party on this one but it is available in very good quality on Netflix streaming (ran it through my blu ray) - How did I miss this? I've seen every other slasher in the world. What a great ending. Instant classic for me. Love it!

That's what made it so great! My mom was in town to see my new kid and we're sitting there watching it and even she, having endured watching these films with me when I was a kid, turns to me as the credits roll and says, "that was awesome!" I love the awkward sudden end. Brilliant.

I love this one too! Especially when that air-headed blonde says "but how do we know she's alive?" .... lol .... I love how she delivers that line.

The ending reminded me of Black Christmas, never a bad thing :)

I just opened Amazon and it says there are 3 copies left new.

I left it open while I ordered one from Wal-Mart.com for shits and such, and hope of saving $6 or so if it does get sent to my local store! 10 minutes since I typed the first line, and refresh shows 3 copies still at Amazon.

I mean for $22 which is reasonable. The other two are $50 and $65!

 Yeah, kinda makes the measly $13.99 I originally paid on the original release date seem cheap now. And to think... I hesitated.

Sweetness, just a confirmation from Wally that says it's on the way to the store for in-store pick-up! Anyone else who waited might want to try this to save a few bucks. I'll confirm if and when I do get from them, but think the "it's shipped from site to store" email is a great sign. I expected an order confirmation saying shipping to follow, so this is a welcome suprise.

I still need to buy this and add it to my FVI collection. I did see the remake last year, and it was okay, but a rather stereotypical horror film remake that has been seen in recent years, similar to the rehash that Platinum Dunes spews out.

Wal-Mart came through, picked it up yesterday and watched last night. Not sure how many more copies they may or may not have, but give it a try if you need a copy of this film.

That cover looks way better with that color scheme.

I couldn't disagree more, hate the new cover all around. The purple isn't so bad, but making her look burnt is horrid. Why zoom in?
