Despite Renee Zellweger starring, I have been quite interested in seeing this film. This movie has supposedly been done for a couple years already. My interest is peaked in that Christian Alvert directed this and I thought his German film Antibodies was quite good. Anyone else see this film?

It was actually part 4. TCM: The Next Generation.
Yeah, but calling that horror, I'm not so sure.:D
:p I don't know why so many people aren't into Next Generation...I really dig it.

Zellweger was originally set to star in THE EYE remake but that incarnation fell apart and she ended up in this instead.

I'd rather see Renée Zellweger do[does] Dallas.
Saw CASE 39 a couple of years ago at a test screening. It's actually quite good. I have no idea why it's been on the shelf for so long.

Renee Zellweger sure didn't dig it. I remember reading that both her and Matthew McConahay attempted to have the Next Generation stopped from being widely released because they were embarrased by the film. Of course, both moved on to big Hollywood films, but I have always been more impressed with actors/actresses who don't apoligize for their film choices, and have starred in horror/sci-fi films. Recent examples are Hillary Swank, Marcia Gay-Harden and Laura Linney. There was something about her and McConahay's outcry that left a bad taste in my mouth.

For some unknown reason I did not hear about 'Antibodies' and just looked it up on the web for the first time and see everybody talk about it as a first rate film with praise all over. Luckily it is on Netflix and I put it on top of my Q. Looks like I have a real treat coming!!!
Madman, thanks for the reference!

Columbia TriStar wasn't too keen on releasing it either which led to lawsuits being filed by the film's director, Kim Henkel, as well as the producers. The film was shot in Austin during the summer of 1993 and was intended to get a wide theatrical release in the fall of 1994, just in time for the 20th anniversary of the 1974 original. It never happened. The film languished in limbo for the next three years until Columbia TriStar gave it a very limited (only 14 cities or so across the US) theatrical release in late September 1997.
I can't say I blame Columbia TriStar for what they did. The film is an embarrassment and along with Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, the low-point of the series.

This had a Theatrical run everywhere except in the US. I wonder why.
Anyway, Case 39 is hitting Blu-ray in Germany on July 29th. It comes with a pack of those:

^ That's pretty friggin' funny.
Just watched this and it was definitely better than I anticipated. The twist, that unfolds early, was easy to spot rather quickly. There's some borderline CGI, but it was still entertaining and worth a watch.
Tons of deleted scenes on the DVD btw. The alternate death scene for the cop I thought was much better than what actually hit production.

It did have a brief U.S. theatrical run late last year.I saw it in an almost empty theater. It's not bad,the leads are good, but I suspect it was tweaked by the producers before it's release.Decent but not as good as it could have been.

I thought it was quite good for a rental, would not watch it again but entertaining the first go round.

Very brief. It arrived October 1st, and left three weeks after. Almost as fast as Let Me In did. I noticed during the end credits, that Paramount copyrighted the film in 2009. It was on the shelf for a lot longer than a year.

According to IMDb filming began in September 2006.

Found this one on the net over a year ago, thought it was mediocre at best. It suffered the same problems as Darkness Falls I thought, although Darkness Falls was a far more atrocious film. From start to finish it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be, The Ring was easily this films biggest influence, and it never followed it's own rules and there was one plot hole after another, some too big I couldn't ignore. Nothing more than a rental.
