Mark your calenders for August 4th. Hopefully they'll include all the features from the 2 disc edition and then some. I think they could have just gone with the movie poster for the cover but for a collage photoshopped together it doesn't look too bad and the vignettes in the corners are a nice touch.

Even though the original boxart was great. I'm kinda digging this new one. It looks like work was put into it and is pretty representative of the feel of the film. I can't wait for this release.

Great news. But Fox has dropped all extras on their on prior releases of Special Edition DVDs on Blu-Ray.

Here are some examples.

Predator was released on Blu-Ray with no extras after the fantastic Collector's Edition, so was Cast Away. I'd think this will follow suit. Hoping they do add the extras though.

Sweet! I love this movie, so I'll definitely be getting it.

Fox has improved with porting over all the previous extras to Blu-ray releases recently, so hopefully they will here too. If not, I'll obviously keep my old 2-DVD set.

One of my favourite films ever

Prefer the classic box art though myself

I'm ok with extras not going over if it means more space to audio/video quality. If it's a movie I love, I will keep the DVD. What I won't do is double-dip down the road should they release another blu w/extras. The exception being if the latter release also had an improved transfer - then I would double dip.

I'm one of those suckers that has about 15 versions of certain movies (Evil Dead cough cough) so I do on occasion double (or triple or worse) dip for movies I really like. Big Trouble in Little China is one of those movies that I would buy several times because it's one of my all time favorites. I would still get this blu ray though even if it was barebones as long as the picture looked fantastic which it should.

I'm amazed that they did a photoshop job that doesn't look like a Scream poster or just completely suck in some way. I still think the original art from the first dvd is the best though, I'd go so far as to call it iconic. I still can't understand why studios commision great pieces of art, then just disregard them when it's time to release or re-release the film and pay someone else to photoshop some shit together.
I've always wanted to see this alternate poster used for something, maybe the BR SE down the road.

As long as the music video is included, I'm happy.

No, those new specs look awesome. Extended cut and all the extras from the two disc? Yee haw, I'll definitely be boarding the pork chop express this summer!

Def. be picking this up! One of my favourite movies, and I'm glad that they are including everything from the DVD as well, and if the extended cut is true, even better.

Haha I was JUST gonna say that!

But yo I'm totally getting this on release day. A lot of Carpenter's films seem to be hitting blu awfully fast.

Oh wow. I didn't realize this extended cut was old news. Then again all I've ever had was the barebones dvd.

Hmm, I may be buying a blu-ray player sooner rather than later....

I've held off so far, but this is one of my favorite movies ever...

Russell looks a bit like Billy Ray Cyrus on the disc art.

Wow! They really don't make 'em like they used to.

New cover is underwhelming. Here's hoping they pull a Monster Squad and include an old-school cover that you can switch in.

I would guess it's just the deleted scenes thrown back in, maybe a bit of score work to make em fit.

Has anyone watched any of Fox's non-director approved extended cuts?
I've seen em for Gladiator, Replacment Killers, Black Hawk Down and a few others that escape me right now. I never bothered with any as they were all movies I already had, and all of them had deleted scenes on the discs I own. I think I read a review of Replacment Killers that said it was just the same deleted footage from the SE, put back in the film and didn't help nor hurt it.

Somehow I've never seen this film. Coincidentally, I just put the DVD at the top of my Netflix queue the other day. Now I guess I'll just wait and check out the Blu ray.

Yeah you are probably right, although I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it said "Extended Cut with new never before seen footage!", so here's hoping.

And yeah, Extended Cuts that aren't Director Approved are kind of stupid, but they usually aren't too drastic or hurt the film. As long as they include the Director's version as well, then I'm down for it I guess.

That would probably be the final push to get me to go Blu. New footage for this flick, not on dvd? I think that would do it.

I'm so torn, I want to go Blu yet also don't in fear I'll be blown away and try to replace my nearly 1000 dvds (over 1200 counting customs and porn). I know I don't want any BR porn at least.:D Plus from what I've seen, a region free BR player (RF for dvd and br) is at least $400.

Maybe it will come out on DVD as well?

As for going Blu, I was worried about the same thing but I think it's good to jump in now and at least buy all your new purchases on Blu as it will save you from replacing them later on. As for replacing old movies in your collection, just start out slow. I have only been replacing movies that carry everything over from the DVD so I can sell the DVD. And wait for good deals. Blu Ray's are getting a lot cheaper, I buy most of mine for $10-$15, you just have to be patient and search around for the best prices.

Oh, and here's the article where it says with never before seen footage. Pretty sure I've read it from a few places as well.

Haven't had a chance to check the disc out yet, but at least in Canadaland it is on sale at Wal-Mart for a cool $12. How can you pass that up?

So, whatever happened to that exteneded cut? It sure wasn't on the BD I got from the library, which is the same as I would buy in any store.
American WM don't even carry this (at least not the 2 closest to me), but I'd upgrade for $12.

We can probably chalk it up to being simply a rumor that got spread somewhere down the line.

I'm not really disappointed, as I love the original theatrical cut and feel it works amazingly well in terms of pace. The deleted scenes are interesting, but I can see why most of them were cut out.

I'm glad to see that the fanbase for this film has grown over the years.I saw it in the theater when it was new and laughed like crazy, had a ball with it's blend of action, fantasy and humor.Much of the audience sat in stony silence, not sure what to make of it ,and many critics reviews were brutal.Today it's widely beloved, has a lot of fans.Funny how things change.

As lame as it may sound I have a more vivid recollection of seeing Big Trouble in Little China in the theater than any other movie as a child. I would have been 11 years old. I can see the theater and smell the popcorn. I believe I may have purchased a GI Joe Snow Cat (http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/85/snowcat/) at KayBee Toy that day. I don't look at it as my favorite movie growing up but I must have been really excited that day as I'm not one of those people that has childhood memories that pop in my head often. A friend of mine theorized once that when you have a easy childhood you tend not to have strong memories.
