View Full Version : Media Blasters urge you not to Scream or Riot over delays

Sad news for slasher fans, as Media Blaster's upcoming DVD treatment of one of the worst slasher movies ever made, 1981's SCREAM, has been indefinitely postponed. The same goes for their RIOT ON 42ND STREET and RAREFLIX sets (Vol. 5 & 6). Production Supervisor Richard York says the "originally announced release dates are now null" and "to the best of my knowledge, these titles will come out at a later date but those dates have yet to be set by sales and management." It sounds like more than a delay...these titles, and future Media Blasters product seem to be in limbo. This news just following their noteworthy release of the jam packed DVD of PSYCHOS IN LOVE.

Another product of the recession? Say it ain't so. Hopefully these do see the light of day, for at the very least people deserve to at least see the inexplicable SCREAM ending at least once in a digital format.

More updates as they transpire...

I don't think they are in trouble, just that they are being hit by the recession just like every other niche DVD company out there.

My copy of Riot on 42nd street was preordered on amazon.com for around TWO YEARS!! This is the second time it has been pulled and I have been wanting to see this film, and based on the pre-ordering concept I had just assumed it was coming out. The heck with this, I'm getting a bootleg.

I haven't seen it, but I'm a slasher completist. So if it does come out, I'm getting it. However...

Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker
Curtains
The Mutilator
Night School
Silent Scream

and heck, even

American Nightmare
and decent releases of Killer Workout & Body Count

...are definitely higher on my wishlist.

Great list. I'm also a Slasher & Giallo completeist, and I'll be pickin' it up as well IF & when it ever streets over here in North America. I'll leave it on as background noise to see if it's truely the shithouse flick many make it out to be. It would appear that it is (sadly) so.

I'm an off-related note, as you mentioned, you all can count me in as someone who's DYING to finally see Killer Workout two others mentioned up to.

Killer Workout is awesome! Sure, suspense is not its forte, but if you like slashers and you like the eighties, you will like Killer Workout.

I have the barebones R2. If it does get a proper release, I'm really hoping that the soundtrack will be on a separate cd - that alone would be worth the price of an upgrade! :)

I'm convinced Code Red and Media Blasters needs to join forces and double the efforts to get all these drive in/grindhouse titles out. With BCI/Eclipse gone we have to have something. I heard Mill Creek seems to be taking an interest in this area so I'm eager to see what becomes from this.

Media Blasters has put Scream back on their release schedule. I don't recall the exact date but it's sometime in December (12/29 perhaps). It's about time! Hopefully they will actually stick to this date. I'm still confused as to why some new Code Red titles are being released by Media Blasters since BCI/Navarre is their normal distributor.

Mine ended up at $6.62. I have free shipping with my Reward Zone status, and I also used a $5 reward zone certificate, which was divided among four DVDs (all part of the sale, $7.50 each, including a pre-order for Bad Biology). Bad Biology showed up as $6.63.

Got through watching the DVD earlier. I haven't seen the film in many years, and that was on a faded VHS rental. The transfer probably looks as good as it's gonna. Quite grainy and with some minor print damage throughout, and of course very dark as the film has always looked in those night shots.

The commentary is interesting but drags at times...kind of like the film itself. The ending still makes little sense to me, even after hearing the director's description of what it's supposed to imply.

Quisenberry only directed one other film 23 years later called Big Chuck, Little Chuck (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407581/) ...which I actually own on DVD (it cost a whopping $1) and still need to watch.
