What Pushes Your Buttons?

Just wondering what pushes your buttons in the horror sense? Movies/things that scare you. Most horror films I find entertaining, and it is great to find artistes that now how to get under your skin.

For me, nearly everything of David Lynch's has the effect. Exorcist 3 does too.

And of course, <B>Silent Hill 2</b>. That game is a true work of art. I'm starting to get chest pains from anxiety playing this, and I'm only up to the point where I found the flashlight. What a well crafted crafted game. Aside from the amazing visuals, the sound is so beautifully crafted, to keep you on edge. The Resident Evil games are so clumsy by comparison. Argh, I need to have a beer to calm my nerves...

I appreciate all types of horror, except perhaps the really gritty stuff like Men Behind the Sun, etc. I like gore, but more along the lines of Brain Dead or Dawn of the Dead.

However, my absolute favorite type of films are creepy films. I think the human imagination, wondering about the unknown, produces more frightening things than Hollywood ever will be able to. My favorite horror film is The Haunting. In that film, you never once see a ghost and barely even any special effects. (A door stretching and some breath.) It's still chilling.

Other films I love: The Changeling, the Ring series, Zeder, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Exorcist 3, Tourist Trap, Joyuu Rei, Diabolique... and probably a lot more I can't think of at the moment.

I find that everyday innocent things with a deep underlining sinister edge scare me more than anything...like for example `The Wicker Man` that whole community which was soo innocent and harmless yet had a very sinister/diabolical side...i also think David Lynchs films have this certain style of dread and weirdness that takes some beating!
It mainly comes down to atmosphere i guess =^,^=

Creepy films definitely make my horror viewing experience! That sense of foreboding....yikes....somethin's gonna happen! Ya can't beat dat wit' a bat!

I got close to finishing the original Silent Hill, but my Playstation memory card fritzed out on me (damn third party memory cards!) I hear the 2nd one leaves the other one in the dirt! If I get a PS2...that'll be one of my "MUST HAVE" titles!

Yeah, Silent Hill was pretty good, but Silent Hill 2 is <b>fantastic</b>. Aside from the previous gen graphics of SH1 (which I have no problem with), I had weaponry problems in SH1. Having to conserve ammo, I never did get the knack of killing the sloths with the pipe, and always took too much damage if I tried to conserve bullets. No such problem in SH2. And I now have been able to fulfill my Survival Horror Motto #1:

<b>1. No nasty creatures should ever be left alive. Dodging monsters is for <i>pussies</i>.</b>

And I've been able to do this with a stick with nails in it. I have only used the gun once, on a nasty boss.

Mind you Resident Evil Code Veronica X I had no conservation problems either... Except I still haven't been able to kill the end boss :(

Yeah, I think Robert Stack is a robot sent to destroy us all, he scares me, those eyes of him are watching me at all times.

I've always found a good ghost story to be about as spooky as it gets. Creepy kids would be a close second, though. Stuff like "The Children", as cheesy as it is, still gives me goosebumps.

Yea,

I would also have to say that "creepy" does it for me -- since i am so desensitized to "scary" scenes after watching horror films for so long. Also, horror movies that allow me to suspend my disbelief for the length of the movie are my favorite - most notibly night of the living dead series... I guess it comes down to movies that COULD be true(within reason), and if they did then all hell would break loose (pun intneded).

I like my movies creepy, scary and weird. Just like David Lynch and David Cronenberg makes 'em.

Anyways, many people I know have been really disappointed with The Blair Witch Project. When I ask them why they say: because there was no monster, blood, music, whatever.

Why can't people use a bit of their imagination?

I was personally disappointed with BWP due to the ridiculous amount of hype associated with it - I was going along expecting something psychologically scary, and got bored. There was no skill involved in it.

I tell people BWP is just a parable for what happens when you let a woman read a map... :)

I am nearly ashamed to say this but THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN completely creeped me out! So did THE HAUNTING and THE INNOCENTS. Freakin' sleep-with-the-lights-on scared!

What is even neater (I can say 'neater,' I'm almost 40) is that these films (mostly) hold up well today.

I also remember being terrified watching an old documentary about bigfoot that used re-created footage. It kept looking in people's windows at night. It was scary, I tell you. My brother looks like bigfoot.
